A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

Date: August 28, 2023 Intended Learners: Grade 9

Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American


literature and other text types serve as means of valuing other people; also, how to use
processing information strategies, different forms of adverbs and conditionals for
him/her to play an active part in a Chamber Theatre presentation.
Performance Standards: The learner proficiently plays an active part in a Chamber
Theatre presentation through employing effective verbal and non- verbal strategies
based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Style and
Body Movements or Gestures.
Learning Competency: Employ the appropriate communicative styles for various
situations (intimate, casual, conversational, consultative, frozen)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. identify the various communicative styles;
b. use appropriate communicative style in short
conversations; and
c. create a short essay for the scene detailing of a specific
communicative style.

following situations. Try to imagine conversing about
the topics to different people you know. What words
would you wish to say? Write your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

seek for a help from your

 Abstraction
Communicative styles or also known as speech
styles are patterns of speaking characterized by
distinctive pronunciation, vocabulary, intent,
participants, and grammatical structures.

Types of Communicative Styles:

Intimate speech is used in conversations between


people who are very close and know each other
quite well because they have maximum shared
background information like couples, family, and
best friends.

Formal speeches are straightforward speeches. It


has been prepared beforehand. It avoids slang
terminologies. Its content is well structured, logically
sequenced, and strongly coherent.

Casual style is used in conversation between


friends and peers who have something to share and
have shared background information but don’t have
close relations.

Consultative – This style is used in semi-formal


communication. Sentences end to be shorter and
spontaneous. The speaker does not usually plan
what he (or she) wants to say.

Frozen – It is the most formal communicative style


usually used during formal events and ceremonies. It
does not require any feedback from the audience. It
is called frozen because it already has a pattern and
cannot be changed. It can also be found in historical
documents.

Instructions:
1. Find at least one scene or situation from your
favorite movie, teleserye, radio drama, short
story or novel that you consider interesting.

2. Write down the title of the piece, and


transcribe the chosen scene/situation.

3. Write a short essay (10 sentences) for the


scene detailing why it is an example of a
specific communicative style. Do not forget to
identify what communicative style is used.
Some guide questions are listed below.

and what is their relationship with each

b. Where is the conversation taking
place?
c. What are they speaking about?
d. What kind of words are they using?
Give specific examples.
