11. A solid is made up of two parts. The lower part is a right circular cylinder of base radius r
cm and height h cm. The upper part is a hemisphere of radius r cm. The ratio of the height
of the cylinder to its base radius is 3 : 1. The height of the solid is 12 cm. Express, in terms

13. Let p(x) be a cubic polynomial. It is given that p(x) is divisible by x – 2. When p(x) is
divided by x, the remainder is 6. When p(x) is divided by ax2 – 6x – 1, the quotient is

15. There are 9 students, 7 teachers and 4 parents in a committee. 5 people are randomly
selected from the committee to form a team.
(a) Find the number of ways of forming the team if there are exactly 2 students in the

are exactly 2 students in the row and they must stand next to each other.

(a) Using the method of completing the square, express the coordinates of the vertex of
the graph of y = f(x) in terms of k. (2 marks)
(b) The graph of y = g(x) is obtained by first reflecting the graph of y = f(x) in the x-axis
and then translating to the right by 4k units. Denote the origin, the vertex of the graph
of y = f(x) and the vertex of the graph of y = g(x) by O, P and Q respectively.
Suppose R is a point lying in quadrant I and G is the centroid of △PQR.
(i) Express the coordinates of Q in terms of k.
(ii) Someone claims that OR passes through G. Do you agree? Explain your answer.

19. AOB is a thin triangular metal sheet, where AO = 72 cm, BAO = 35 and ABO =
102.
(a) Find AB. (2 marks)
(b) In Figure 3, the thin metal sheet AOB is held such that only the vertex O lies on the
horizontal ground. P and Q are points lying on the horizontal ground vertically
below the vertices A and B respectively. AB produced meets the horizontal ground
at the point R. A craftsman finds that AP = 24 cm and BQ = 8 cm.
