Introductory Message

Welcome to TLE 9 – ICT (Contact Center Services)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Antique and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The TLE 9 – ICT (Contact Center Services) Activity Sheet will help you
facilitate the leaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning
Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and
learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease
the independent learning.

For the learner:

The TLE 9 – ICT (Contact Center Services) Activity Sheet is developed to

help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material
provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being
an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the
agreed schedule.

The Computer

I. Learning Competency
Apply computer basic operation procedures; Check basic peripheral devices
based on proper connection. (TLE_ICTCC9CO-Ia-j-1)

II. Background Information for Learners

THE COMPUTER

 A computer is an ELECTRONIC DEVICE.

 A computer has INTERNAL STORAGE.
 A computer can use a STORED PROGRAM to direct its activities.
 A computer allows PROGRAM-EXECUTION MODIFICATION.

A computer is an electronic device that can receive a set of instructions, or

program, and then carry out this program by performing calculations on
numerical data or by manipulating other forms of information. It is an electronic
device capable of accepting data, processing data, and giving meaningful
information. It is an electronic machine possessing internal storage capabilities,
a stored program of instructions, and the capability of modifying the course of
execution of instructions during processing.

The New World of Computers

Information Revolution – also known as the “Third Wave” (according to Alvin
Toffler, 1980); refers to the massive use of computers; also refers to the
dramatic increase of information generated, stored, summarized, and studied.

THE COMPUTER SYSTEM

- collection of components that interact to satisfy a need or solve a problem. It
is composed of machines (hardware), programs or operating aids
(software), data processing personnel, data files and procedures.

Classification of Computers:
1. According to Purpose
a. General-Purpose Computers – have the capability of dealing with a variety
of different problems, and are able to act in response to programs created to
meet different needs.
b. Special-Purpose Computers – designed to perform only one specific task.

2. According to Type of Data Handled

a. Analog Computer – these are almost extinct today. It can only perform
several mathematical operations simultaneously. It uses continuous
variables for mathematical operations and utilizes mechanical or electrical
energy.
b. Digital Computer – use digital circuits and are designed to operate on two
states, 0 and 1; suitable for complex computation and have higher
processing speeds; they are programmable.
c. Hybrid Computer – combine the best features of the analog and digital
computers; combines the measuring capabilities of the analog computer and
the logical and control capabilities of the digital computer.

3. According to Capacity
a. Supercomputers – biggest and fastest machines today; enormously
powerful computers used to perform the most complex mathematical and
scientific calculations. They are used to study quantum physics, mechanics,
weather forecasting and molecular theory.
b. Large Computers – contain full control systems with minimal operator
intervention.
c. Medium-Sized Computers (Servers) – provide faster operating speed and
larger storage capacities than minicomputers. Running on them are
programs that serve client requests and allocate resources like memory and
time to client machines. They have large processors and many hard drives.
d. Minicomputers – mainframes; provide faster operating speed and larger
storage capacities than microcomputer systems; used for highly critical
applications such as bulk data processing.
e. Microcomputers – use a microprocessor; has a programmable ROM and
RAM (ROM – Read-Only Memory – defines the instructions to be executed
by the computer; RAM – Random Access Memory – functional equivalent of
the computer memory); best choice for single-user tasks
Desktop
Laptops
Netbooks
Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
Tablet Computers
Wearable Computers
