 Learning Task 3

From the given concepts about Media and Information Literacy provide the necessary
information asked in each statement.

1. Enumerate at least three literacy that you already acquired as a student.

- I acquired information, media, and technology literacy as a student. Because
of technological advancements, it is more necessary to be knowledgeable in
these areas. In a world of continuous fake news, we must be able to
determine which information is true or false. The capacity to grasp facts,
numbers, statistics, and data is taught through information literacy. The
practice of identifying publishing techniques, channels, and sources while
discerning between those reputable and those that are not is known as media
literacy. Lastly, Technology Literacy teaches us how to utilize technology
responsibly while comprehending the drawbacks and loopholes, making
people more in tune with the online world.

2. Give three examples of media.

- Social Media
- Blogs
- Virtual Presence

3. List three manifestations of a media literate person.

- A media literate individual can decode, evaluate, analyze, and create both print
and electronic media. Media education and media studies are two topics that
are closely connected.
- People who are media literate can generate and produce media messages with
expertise, demonstrating an awareness of the unique characteristics of each
medium and also creating media and engaging as active citizens.
- People who are media literate may access, critically assess, produce, or
manipulate media.

4. Provide three information that you gathered today.

 Global Climate Change
- The climate crisis is not a coming catastrophe; humans are now
experiencing the consequences of centuries of greenhouse gas
emissions. Failure to act swiftly now would result in a reversal of
development achievements for society's poorest and most vulnerable
people, destruction of biodiversity, increased difficulty in providing food
and shelter, and the potential loss of entire nations due to climate change
consequences.
 Challenges and Recounts: Political Parties and the Complaints Process in the
Philippines
- Several lessons were drawn from the major political parties' experiences
with monitoring and registering complaints. A lack of IT expertise and
tools for observing new technologies made it difficult for party agents to
gather the proof needed to back up their candidates' assertions. Parties
further stressed the necessity of ensuring that the courts have the IT
competence to judge properly on technology-related disputes. They also
stated that the cost of submitting complaints has risen as parties have had
to acquire more specialist legal and IT experts, drastically adjust party poll
watcher training and tools, and educate themselves in more depth on new
technology.

 Examining the Philippines’ Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System

- Hundreds of natural disasters have struck the Philippines in the last
decade, making it one of the most disaster-prone states in the world.
According to a 2008 World Bank report, natural disasters threaten 50.3
percent of the country's total geographical area and 81.3 percent of its
people. According to the United Nations University Institute of
Environment and Human Security's (UNU-EHS) 2016 World Risk Report,
the Philippines is the third most disaster-prone country in the world, with
a Risk Index1 of 26.70 percent.

5. Cite three ways showing information literacy.

 Define Information Literacy.
- Students must learn to protect themselves against disinformation for the
rest of their life since the internet isn't going away. You may need to
explain information literacy in recognizing fake information and
comprehending real news. The breadth of these definitions does not mean
that information literacy is difficult to understand. Anyone who has access
to the internet may learn about information literacy. The easiest way to get
started is with examples.

 Define What Makes an Online Source Trustworthy.

- Everyone believes what they read, especially if it comes from a friend or
supports an existing belief. But that's a risky way to live. Too much
disinformation will leave a person as ignorant as if they did not have any
information, to begin with. The following qualities differentiate a credible
source: first, the author's name appears on the information. Second, the
author has a fantastic reputation. Third, a date shows that the information
is up to date. Fourth, the domain is reliable (.com, .edu, .gov). Fifth is that
the website is well-designed. Lastly, the writing is accurate grammatically
and lexically.

 Encourage Critical Thinking.

- Critical thinking is assessing knowledge, questioning it, and judging its
worth. Students will catch up on these ideas immediately and begin to
question what they hear. Everyone, however, should be able to think
critically. Students will apply critical thinking and analyze any detail they
believe may enhance their understanding and verification of the material.
6. Specify some tips of becoming a technology literate.
 Good Problem Solving is the Foundation of Tech Literacy.
- Problem-solving is a far more necessary skill than coding, but the two are
inextricably linked. With so many open source standards and components
available in this post-internet era, it has become much easier to create
prototypes and make them available for testing to millions of users. You
can't code a solution unless you can solve problems.

 Learn Enough to Understand Coding Fundamentals.

- Although I do not believe that everyone should learn to code, I do believe
that understanding how coding works is extremely beneficial. Everyone
should understand the general architecture and coding components. This
understanding allows for more meaningful conversations as well as
comfort in knowing how things work and what potential opportunities or
threats may exist around us.

 Learn About Coding Languages.

- Even as a CEO who also does a lot of development work, I don't believe
that everyone should learn to code. The most important aspect of tech
literacy is mastering the concepts and terms required to communicate in
the tech world. Software must be described before it can be built, and
teams that build before describing frequently find themselves in a bind.

 Read and Interact with Technology Experts.

- I don't believe that everyone needs to code. I learned enough to help me
interact more intelligently with developers. It's not required, but it can't
hurt. To better understand the technology behind the solution, it's a good
idea to stay tuned in the tech world by reading and engaging with tech
experts, attending industry conferences, and interacting with developers.

 Reduce the Barriers to Technology Literacy.

- Reduced entrance barriers are one of the most effective methods to
persuade someone to engage in a new activity. Aside from displaying the
millions of benefits that tech literacy can bring to people's lives, one
should also illustrate how easy it is to learn the initial steps, how quick it
is to write the first line of code, and how rewarding it is to see results
materialize in front of one's eyes after just a few steps.
7. Give three proofs that a person is a media and information literate.
- Media and Information Literacy is defined as knowledge, attitudes, skills, and
practices required to access, analyze, evaluate, use, produce, and
communicate information and knowledge in creative, legal, and ethical ways
that respect human rights. Individuals are literate if they approach the source
of information with their preconceived cognitive biases in check. The goal of
media and information is to educate.
- They must also understand how statistics can be inaccurate. They must keep
an eye out for things like Fox's map depicting the percentages of people killed
with guns. It was not a map showing the number of deaths per 1000 (a
common way to compare regions), but rather the percentage compared to the
total, which reflected population density. Logic dictates that where there are
more people, there will be more deaths.
- They must be able to search for and compare information from sources that do
not say the same thing. While reading about the Oklahoma judge's decision
against Johnson and Johnson, I was surprised by the number of sources that
had the same information, and it wasn't complete. It took some time to find
more detailed information.
 Learning Task 4
Use the diagram below to explain the interconnection of each Media and Information
Literacy concept.

I. MULTIPLE CHOICE. Choose the letter of the best answer. Write your answer on a
separate sheet.

1. A. Literacy
2. B. Media
3. C. Information Literacy
4. D. Information
5. B. Media Literacy

II. ESSAY TYPE (5 pts each)

Answer each question. Write your answer on a separate sheet.

1. How does media affect communication?

- Media, especially social media, has lowered communication barriers, allowing
everyone to express themselves to the rest of the world more easily. Staying in
touch with friends and family has also been great because of social media.
While social media improves our communication, it also has disadvantages.
These advantages and disadvantages are visible now, but we must be cautious
in using this platform. The media is both a blessing and a curse. It may use to
conceal, mislead, deceive, and influence our ideas, beliefs, and behavior.
People may now contact friends and relatives from all over the world in real
time and at a minimal cost.

2. How are the concepts Media Literacy, Media Information and Technology Literacy
connected?
- Media, information, and digital literacy are the three most common concepts
that focus on a critical approach to media messages. One of the qualities of
media literacy is analytical ability. Media and information literacy are two
crucial abilities in today's digital world. However, there is considerable overlap
between these words. In addition, the confluence of these two words or talents
results in the field of information and media literacy. Messages are critically
reviewed in media literacy and technological literacy to determine their
authenticity and equality. Be mindful of the interpretative processes at work in
the conveying of meaning. They all have the same goal: to help individuals
utilize information technology to access, interpret, consume, analyze, and
produce media messages, information, or content. I believe that these three
literacies are vital aspect, and it plays a significant role in the internet
information that we encounter daily. The most notable feature of this lesson is
how an individual might become literate or, more likely, a citizen by gaining
information on this road.
