Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is the primary international airport serving
Hyderabad, the capital city of the Indian state of Telangana. Named after former Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the airport is located in Shamshabad, about 24 kilometers south of
the city center.It is the main gateway to Hyderabad and plays a significant role in
connecting the region to various domestic and international destinations

2. Kempegowda International Airport: Bangalore

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is the primary international airport serving


Bangalore, the capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka. Named after Kempegowda,
the founder of Bangalore, the airport is located in Devanahalli, about 40 kilometers north
of the city center. It is one of the major aviation hubs in India, connecting Bangalore to
numerous domestic and international destinations

Ans: GHIAL was mandated to design, finance, build and operate Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad as a world class Greenfield airport on the Public
Private Partnership (PPP) model.

3) Financial model of the air port construction?


Ans: Greenfield airport on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, Hyderabad Rajiv
Gandhi International Airport is operated by the Hyderabad International Airport Limited
(HIAL) which signed a concession agreement with the Government of India in December
2004 for a period of 30 years. The inauguration of the airport was in March 2008.
Hyderabad International Airport Limited is a joint venture formed as a consortium between
GMR Group (63%)
Air port Authority of India (13%),
Government of AndhraPradesh (13%)
and Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd (11%).
The model of PPP for Hyderabad Airport is based on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer
(BOOT) basis.
During the period of concession, the consortium was incorporated to design, finance, build
and maintain the greenfield Hyderabad Airport, which has the flexibility to increase
capacity to handle over 40 million international and domestic travelers per annum.

4) First list down step by step what you have witnessed in the video right from the time
passenger arrives at the airport terminal until he gets into the flight with features of the
facilities inside the air terminal and from the time he dis embarks from the flight until he gets
out of the airport.?

1. Airport approach & access:


 Approaching with the two major highways
 Vehicular approach connecting easily & providing access to the passenger tunnel
building
 Large landscape areas & canopies enhancing the welcoming beauty
 Parking area & connectivity to the building.

2. Air craft parking zone:
 Video showing about the airfield area
 Area accommodates a diverse range of aircraft,including
different types of airplanes & buses.
3. Passenger terminal building:
 which was expandable and functional, efficient processing facility,food &
beverage activities.
 Air side of the tunnel building provided with glass facades for connecting the
passengers with the air side & activities on the aircraft area.
 Departing passengers to the tunnel building through a walk way which was
covered with a tensile fabric roof, visible for airport village area
 Arrival & departure passengers were separated in different ways
 The Architecture emphasizes spaciousness and abundant natural light through
skylights & glass facades.
4. Airport Village:
 Gathering of the people in a larger number of central gathering
point,Connecting mezzanine floors
 Interior landscaping welcomes visitors & creates an inviting atmosphere.
 Food beverages & entertainment facilities,kiosks
Check-in counters/facilities:
 Checking counters(44 no’s) openly in a larger space and also the provision for
adding more counters in future
 Self check-in counters
 Beside the Multi level commercial building with commercial areas
 Waiting areas & lounge facilities
 Provision of skylights
 Semi automated baggage handling areas stream line the departure process.
Departure Area:
 Lounge facilities and all the other amenities like food & beverages.
 Commercial spaces
 Baggage counters
5. Passenger boarding bridge:
 Passenger boarding bridge provided with glass facades for connecting the
passengers with the air side & activities on the aircraft

 Providing an easy access to the aircraft from the terminal through the boarding
bridge which was covered with the tensile fabric material.
 Not only functionally and also emphasizes aesthetic appeal.

Kempegowda International Airport: Bangalore

Ans: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is a Greenfield airport located in Bangalore,
India.
3) Financial model of the air port construction?
Ans: The Greenfield airport has been implemented on a Build Own Operate and Transfer
(BOOT) model under Public Private Participation (PPP) basis.

 Government nodal agency under Karnataka govt. (13%)

1.Passenger drop of Area:
i. Firstly Video showing the passenger drop off area with a sheltered roofing with concrete
shelves and large span roof

iii. Terminal entrance with large span and the long columns with glass facades creating the
invitation for the passengers and visibility of the internal interiors inside the building
iv. Entering into the terminal building with the large gathering spaces & waiting are
v. Precast concrete wall pannels with the glass blocks inside & flooring with the natural
finishes

vi. Check in counters/hall: Large number of check in counters.
vii. Welcoming the passengers with warm materials ,Natural stone finishes with Grey granite
floors with mandala design flooring & red imperial stone cladding columns
viii. Checked in passengers will be going Nextly through the glass wall elevators leading to
the 1st floor
ix. Immigration & customs check in:
Immigration & customs check in counters are designed conveniently for the passengers
Leading to the security check formalities
x. Commercial spaces,restaurants,duty free shops and also provided flexibility provision for
expanding the commercial space
xi. Departure waiting area and interior landscaping creating the welcoming atmosphere
xii. More natural lighting penetrating form the Sky lights provided
xiii. Gates were easily identifying & leading to the boarding bridges
xiv. Showing the run way & landing of the aircraft into the parking zone
Passenger disembarkment:
xv. After the landing of the flight passengers will be entering through the boarding bridges
with the large curtain walls
xvi. Arriving from the bus into the bridges
xvii.Entering into the walkway corridor through the vertical transport system showing the
escalators
xviii. Travelling through the walkway seeing the whole panoramic view of the terminal
interiors through the curtain walls
xix. Showing the interiors, light fixtures,sail roofing through out the way
xx. Leading to the immigration area & the baggage scans separately for both male &
female
xxi. Passengers will be descending to the below floor through the escalators- leading to the
baggage claiming area
Baggage claiming:
