SQUAD AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

Throughout our deployments, we use formations used by most professional

armies in order to make organization quicker and easier, these will be used by your
squad leader in order to increase efficiency in combat within the squad.

 SQUAD ROLES

Within every squad, members are given specific roles, tasks and weapons,
this will increase their combat efficiency since the squad must be able to engage
and destroy the many different types of targets they are likely to meet on the
battlefield. The different weapons and roles the members have give the team a

balance of firepower, simplify the logistics of supplying ammunition, and vary the
load each Soldier has to carry. The heavier the weapon, the less other gear or

ammunition a Soldier can bear and the less they can maneuver.

Listed below are the following roles for a basic infantry squad:

- Squad Leader (SL): This role is responsible for everything the squad

does—or fails to do. They are tactical leaders and leads by example, their
primary objective is to issue orders to their squad mates and to maintain
organization within the squad/fireteam.

- Radioman (RM): This role provides and maintains communications. They
help the squad by issuing requests to other units or to the HQ whether it’s for
reinforcements, resupply or air support.

- Automatic Rifleman (AR): This role provides overwatch and suppressive

fire through force multiplication. The most casualty producing person in a

fireteam, in terms of firepower and maneuverability. An automatic rifleman
is equipped with a light machine gun or an IAR.

- Designated Marksman (DM): This role supports the squad by providing

accurate long-range shots at valuable targets as needed, thus extending the

effective tactical reach of the fireteam/squad. They are usually equipped

with a DMR or a bolt-action sniper rifle.

- Driver (DV): This role’s primary objective is to operate vehicles that help in
executing the squad’s mission efficiently, they primarily provide
transportation or mobile cover for the squad, when the situation needs it,

 they can either dismount or operate a vehicle-mounted HMG to help out the
squad in combat.

- Rifleman (RF): This role is the backbone of every squad, they are versatile
and are able to fill in in many tasks/objective that a squad may need to be
accomplished, their primary objective is to engage the enemy and eliminate

support for other roles within the squad.

There are specific squad roles that primarily cater to the mission and
objectives of different units within PEFTOR; therefore these roles are only

primarily used to breach rooms and to open up battles within the area, they
are equipped with either an assault carbine, submachine gun or a shotgun.

- Sniper (SP) : This is role is different from the Designated Marksman since a
sniper's primary function is to provide detailed surveillance from a
concealed position and, if necessary, to reduce the enemy's combat ability by
neutralizing high-value targets (especially officers and other key personnel)

Every member within our unit must carry and use firearms that are issued for

The ArmsCor M16A2 variant. 3b is the primary assault rifle of the Armed
Forces of the Philippines. It was conceived by the AFP during the modernization

program, they decided to refurbish and upgrade the existing M16A2s in their
stockpile and to acquire the license to manufacture more rifles as it was cheaper
than buying new units of assault rifles; ArmsCor was chosen for the project, the
changes made to the original M16A2 rifles are the addition of picatinny rails on the
handguard, improvements to the barrel and trigger mechanism and a new muzzle
break was made for the rifle.

Tactical Maneuvers is used by maneuver warfare theorists to refer to

movement by forces to gain advantageous position relative to the enemy. The idea

Close-quarter combat is a fast-paced and incredibly hectic form of combat,

Surprise gives the attacker the upper hand against an opponent that is

You have to maintain security all around your battle space. If you are
moving through a building with many rooms, it is never likely that you will have
enough men to leave one behind in each room as you move through your objective,
be on the lookout for anything as the defenders might launch an ambush on you.

Breaching makes you engage the defenders in rooms, it is important to keep

up with your squad and get your gun ready as fights can get hectic real fast.

Once the room has been breached, you must quickly assess the room’s

The Single-stack system is less effective than the Double-stack as the

possibility of members getting shot is higher in this formation. This system may
only be utilized on corner-orientated rooms or open door-ways. members of the
squad would transition between hook and cross, a hook breach is where members
would simply trail around the door frame, making a fish-hook effect.
