1. SCOPE

This Method Statement covers the works required to construct part of

the external walls around the Hospital Transformer Room area using
external reverse wall formwork and single sided main external wall forms
due to external wall exterior working space restrictions. The works and
materials shall conform to the requirements of Contract IFC Drawings,
approved Shop Drawings and Project Specifications.

2. FIELD OF APPLICATION

The area affected is in between Grids HO/T-HO/U & HO/18-HO/20, with

the reverse external formwork being used between base of the Mat
Foundation and the existing ground surrounding the Hospital Basement
excavation. Wherever the reverse formwork is used at the external wall
location, the internal face of the basement external wall will be
constructed using a single sided interior form.

The system of work involves casting a sacrificial blinding concrete wall

against the face of the excavation, extending out to the external face of
the final reinforced concrete external Basement wall. Then by using this
blinding concrete wall as one side of the final reinforced concrete wall,
construct the reinforced concrete wall using a single sided form on the
internal face (within the Basement).

6. RESPONSIBILITIES ON SITE

6.1 External wall construction works and related activities shall be

undertaken by a dedicated group headed by a Foreman under the
over-all supervision of a Site Engineer.

6.2 The responsible Site Engineer shall raise the necessary Request
for Inspections (RFI) for Blinding Concrete, Reinforcement
Inspection, Concreting, Bitumen Application and Waterproofing
Membrane Installation.

6.3 The responsible Site Engineer shall ensure compliance of the

work with this Method Statement and Project Specifications.

6.4 Health, Safety and Environmental issues shall be addressed in

accordance with the approved HSE Plan (Document Submittal
No. CP 300(a)- DS-BOTH-01 /008) under the supervision of the
Site Safety Officers.

7. WORK PROCEDURE

7.1 Complete all Mat Foundation related excavation, debris removal,

termite treatment, and horizontal concrete blinding.

7.2 Set out external face of Mat Foundation on concrete blinding.

7.3 Install reverse vertical formwork on blinding 5mm outside edge

line of Mat Foundation to a minimum height of 1220mm. Install
stop-end at limits of reverse form works.

7.4 Concrete to external side of vertical reverse formwork using

blinding concrete mix (OPC 20/20) to a minimum of 1220mm
height (do not cure vertical blinding concrete with water).

7.5 Vertically extend or lift vertical reverse formwork and concrete

(blinding) full height or in lifts to the external side of reversed
formwork until top of external vertical blinding concrete is level
with existing external ground (do not cure vertical blinding
concrete with water). In the last lift of this blinding concrete wall,
install 20mm dia. HY rebars at 1m intervals (“U” bars – inverted –
minimum 800mm each leg) at top of final lift of vertical blinding
concrete wall (exposed top of bars to be used to assist in
securing the single sided internal formwork of the reinforced
concrete external wall at a later stage).

7.6 Remove all reverse formwork and clean area.

7.7 Apply Dermaprimer Liquid Solvent Based Bituminous Primer and

install Adesobit 1600 Waterproofing Membrane against base of
externally cast vertical blinding concrete wall, extending the
membrane system a minimum of 200mm onto the Mat
Foundation blinding and at least 2m up the vertical blinding
concrete wall. At ends of reverse formwork area, extend
waterproofing sheet a minimum of 200mm past end of vertical
stop-end position, retaining the protective strip to the membrane
on the vertical sheeting outside the line of the vertical stop-end
positions. No waterproofing system protection board to be applied
to the membrane affixed to the external vertical blinding concrete
wall. Application of bitumen and installation of waterproofing
membrane shall be in accordance with Method Statement on
Concrete Protection & Waterproofing (Document Submittal No.
CP300(a)-DS-BOTH-07-066; Code B).

7.8 Install polyethylene sheeting over Mat Foundation blinding

concrete, and extend the sheeting at least 300mm up the
waterproofed external vertical blinding concrete wall.

7.9 Fix Mat Foundation rebar/wall starters/wall kicker/waterbar

without puncturing the exposed vertical waterproofing membrane.

7.10 Cast Mat Foundation, taking care not to damage the exposed
vertical waterproofing membrane.

7.11 Cast adjacent column pedestals on the completed Mat

Foundations.

7.12 Complete the vertical waterproof membrane to the top of the

vertical blinding concrete wall, leaving at least 200mm of
waterproof membrane above the top of the vertical concrete wall
(all membrane above the top of the wall is to have the protective
covering maintained).

7.13 Prepare wall kicker top surface, and install rebar/waterbar/single

sided formwork to external reinforced concrete wall (including
vertical stopends) to a minimum height level with the top of the
vertical blinding concrete wall. The first concreting lift of the
reinforced concrete wall is to be only to the top of the previously
cast external vertical concrete blinding. Install external kicker for
external reinforced concrete wall at top of vertical blinding
concrete wall. The single sided form can be braced using props
from the completed adjacent column pedestals and/or temporary
ballast blocks, along with ties connected to the previously cast
inverted “U” bars in top of vertical blinding concrete wall.

7.14 Cast single sided formed external reinforced concrete wall at a

slow rate in order not to place excessive pressure on the single
sided formwork (check form design for rate of casting).

7.15 Water cure reinforced concrete external wall in accordance with

Method Statement on Curing of Concrete Structures (Document
Submittal No. CP300(a)-DS-BOTH-03-026; Code B).

7.16 Following casting of the single sided forms to the reinforced

concrete external wall, adjacent wall to the ends/above the single
sided cast wall can be completed in the usual manner using
double sided formwork. Waterproofing membrane will be
exposed at all external sides of the single sided cast reinforced
concrete external wall enabling continuance of the waterproofing
system.
