Pre Activity
Asking for and giving opinion and its responses are very common expression. Do you
know what is meant to be an opinion?
Let’s take a look a conversation between 2 friends below. Read aloud so you are able to
train how to read a text by good intonation and clear pronunciation.

Bima : Do you like watching ‘Indonesian
Idol’?
Sadewa : Right. I never miss this reality show.
I think it is the best reality show and it has fascinated
many fans around the nation.
Bima : I think so. No one can deny that Indonesian Idol is the one of the many
talent search show. I believe it becomes one of the most popular shows in the history of
Indonesian television. What’s your view?
Sadewa : I suppose this reality show has not fully succeeded in reaching its main
goal. If you take an objective look at a number of the winners, you’ll see that some of
them are not yet able to survive in the Indonesian music industry.
Bima : I know what you mean. Some of them are not able to fill the most basic
requirement which is to sing properly. Well, what do you think about it?
Sadewa : Are they?
Bima : Actually I don’t know much about music industry so I’d rather not to say
anything about it.
Sadewa : Well, neither do I.

An opinion is the way you feel or think about something. Our opinions about
something or someone are based on our perspective. Whenever we give or express our
opinion, it is important to give reasoning or an example to support our opinion.
From the dialogue above, we are able to get attention at how to ask and give
information related to opinions and thoughts. These are some expressions used above.
