Chemical and Chemical changes

Write down the formula of-

a) Sodium oxide
b) Aluminium chloride
c) Sodium sulphide
d) Magnesium chloride
e) Calcium oxide

Balance the following equation:

C2H6O + O2 → CO2 + H2O

Balance the following equation:

N2 + O2 → N2O5

Balance the following equation:

P4+O10+ H2O→H3PO4
Balance the following equation:

Al + HCl→AlCl3+H2
Balance the following equation:

P4O10+H20→H3PO4
Case study question

1. A student took a solution of copper sulphate in a beaker and put a clean iron nail into it
and left it for about an hour.
(a) What changes do you expect?
(b) Are these changes chemical in nature?
(c) Write a word equation for the chemical change, if any.
Assertion- Vinegar + baking soda gives carbon dioxide + water + Sodium acetate.
Reason- the change in which one or more new substances are formed is called a
physical change.
a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for
assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct
explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

Assertion-Atomicity is the number of atoms present in one molecule of

an element or a compound.
Reason- In some chemical changes, a gas is formed as a product and is released
as effervescence.
a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for
assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct
explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

Time and motion

Case study question
1. Two students were asked to plot a distance-time graph for the motion described by Table
A and Table B.
a) What will be the position of the object at 10 min?
(b) What will be the distance travelled by the object in 8 min?
(c) What is the average speed of the object? In (m/s)

PROBLEMS

2. Distance between Bholu’s and Golu’s house is 9 km. Bholu has to attend Golu’s birthday
party at 7 0′ clock. He started his journey from his home at 6 O’ clock on his bicycle and
covered a distance of 6 km in 40 min. At that point, he met Chintu and he spoke to him for 5
min and reached Golu’s birthday party at 7 O’ dock. With what speed, did he cover the
second part of the journey? Calculate his average speed for the entire journey.

3. The distance between two stations is 240 km. A train takes 4 hours to cover this
distance. Calculate the speed of the train.

4. The given data regarding the motion of two different objects C and D is in a
tabular form. Check them carefully and state whether the motion of the objects is
uniform or non-uniform.

Time Distance travelled by C (in m) Distance travelled by D (in m)

9:30 AM 10 12

9:45 AM 20 19

10:00 AM 30 23

10:15 AM 40 35

10:30 AM 50 37

10:45 AM 60 41

11:00 AM 70 44

5. Salma takes 15 minutes from her house to reach her school on a bicycle. If the
bicycle has a speed of 2 m/s, calculate the distance between her house and the
school.

6. Show the shape of the distance-time graph for the motion in the
following cases:

(i) A car moving with a constant speed.

(ii) A car parked on a side road.

Note: Represent it as a graph ( Refer pg-178 Analyse 2)

Assertion- A unit of time or midst unit is any particular time interval, used as a
standard way of measuring or expressing duration.
Reason- The distance moved by an object in a unit time is called its speed.
a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for
assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct
explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

Assertion-Second is a larger unit of time.

Reason-Minute is a basic unit of time.

a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for
assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct
explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.
