program, and number of computer-related courses taken. It can also be referred to as the
comfort level someone has by using computer programmers and other application that
are related to computers this definition is based on the works of Rober and Chalkina
(2016). According to Math Genie (2018) Computer literacy is a mandatory skill for success
in school, the job force, and everyday life. Furthermore, Jarvis and Pastuszak (2008)
stressed that computer literacy plays a vital role in students’ academic achievement and
academic contexts. Computer literacy has an important place as one of many forms of

has been expanded to include skills in computer basic numeric sound, still and moving

notion of only confining it to reading and writing. The concept probes that computer
literacy is indispensable for both faculty members and learners in the conduct of flexible

bringing out a sudden change in the lifestyle of everyone as part of globalization scheme
and in all sectors of the workforce to expedite work processes. These include
communication technology, office productivity, record keeping and retrieval, internet and
search, decentralized work and cloud computing, analytics and new decision structure,
automation, robotics and future factories; adoption of virtual and augmented reality;
conversational system i.e., chatbots and assistants; and lastly on information security
(Guha and Gates, 2018). Almost everyone of various ages, social status, background,
races, and places is engaged with the use of gadgets which are either work-related,
intended to expedite school requirements, or facilitate activities with the use of technology
as a result of the increased work load involved in coping with the information explosion.
Technology is how people modify the natural world to suit their own
purposes. From the Greek word “techne”, meaning art or artifice or craft, the act of making
or crafting, but more generally it refers to the diverse collection of processes and
knowledge that people use to extend human abilities to satisfy human needs and wants.
Some believe that technology is a very effective way of engaging young minds and
9
improving student learning (Carlson, 2005). Learners have simply grown accustomed to
2007). The use of technology has become more prevalent in schools and has been shown
the delivery of instruction especially during the onset of pandemic and its aftermath due
to the series of unexpected events. Smart television, computer units, laptops, cellphones,
tablets, and other related stuff are used to impart knowledge to students in all levels
ranging from primary, elementary, junior high, senior high, collegiate level, and post
graduate schools. Nowadays, with the emergence of social networks, the type of Internet
use for leisure by young people has undergone significant changes. Thus, according to
Karal and Kokoc (2013), Internet users have given preference to the use of social and
age group and at any level of schooling being currently the most popular online
student learning and educational outcomes. Microsoft PowerPoint was one of the
Microsoft Office applications developed by Microsoft since 1990 and has been used
widely for disseminating information and presenting reports. PowerPoints are normally
produced in slides to be projected on the screen or whiteboard for the audience to see.
However, the strengths of PowerPoint go beyond slide presentation. This study aims to
discuss the role of PowerPoint in the teaching and learning besides identifying its usage
respondents who have used the PowerPoint-based module learning material. The
respondents are students from Sultan Zainal Abidin University who enrolled in Arabic for
beginner course. Feedbacks from students are evaluated to determine whether or not the
presence, not all educators take advantage of the benefits offered by PowerPoint which
and audio. The findings from this study indicate that materials produced by PowerPoint
help enhance learner understanding. Therefore, its huge potentials can be explored
For young people or for students, Poynton (2004) has measured that
Computer literacy is positively associated with the scores obtained in practical measuring
skills tests. Selber (2004) claims to be essential to incorporate more opportunities to allow
students and teachers to recognize Computer literacy as a social practice and raising the
Students’ ability to learning through the use of technology goes far beyond
the classroom, since they use it, they do the basic way, to support their study (Clark et
al., 2009). According to Kuhlemeier and Hemker (2007) and van Braak and Kavadias
(2005), students tend to use the computer and Internet at home, to a much greater degree
than in the classroom. The ICT skills are mainly acquired through “learning by doing” at
home, and less in the context of the classroom, through specific training. Another study
on ICT Literacy a balance and School Performance had looked into its impact and scope
of influence. Dotong, De Castro, Dolot, & Peneda (2019) discover that the use of the
internet to study through the use of search engines, the use of libraries and/or digital
11
databases and the completion of homework through the use of the internet, significantly
influenced school performance. It was also found out that ICT literacy significantly
influenced school performance in a direct way and mediated by the use of the internet to
support the said activity. Computer literacy showed a greater convergence, namely
through the use of software for multimedia presentations, word processing and spread
sheeting. Overall, ICT literacy of the student of basic teaching and secondary teaching
(7th to the 12th grades) has a predominant influence on school performance, being also
important is the stimulus of parents and teachers to use the internet as a tool to support
their studying task. As such, the expanse of influence and effect of computer literacy on
academic performance will be the focus of this current study. It will be determined and
performance like that of the recent study in order to probe if the observations of
researchers hold true to the students in Baguio City. In addition, Karsten & Roth (1998)

students. Cohen (2010) advances that computer literacy is imperative for every individual,
particularly the students. At present, it could have been impossible to conduct classes
without technology as online classes and/or flexible learning instructions are being carried
Education (DepEd). DepEd implements the DepEd Internet Connectivity Project pursuant
to DepEd Order Number 50, series of 2009, first among secondary schools and, later on,
Program of DepEd Order No. 78, s. 2010. This explains why flexible learning instructions
were carried out in the country as mandated by the aforementioned laws. The current
educational set up affirms that computer literacy plays a crucial role in learning; thus

computer literacy, and interaction online with mentors during the conduct of classroom
instructions. Along this observation, Esnara (2022) as cited by Rahmati et al. (2020) in
found out that the approach yielded more positive outcomes than traditional methods.
This finding was further corroborated by Esnara (2022) as cited by Yanti & Rahmidayah
(2020), where the researchers integrated the results of 67 various investigations in Iran
from 2007 to 2020 on the impact of educational technology in ELT. The study was meta-
analysis quantitative or statistical, using statistical findings of each of the 67 research with
the aid of SPSS software to determine the frequency and statistical significance that
yielded a positive outcome. This only shows that computer-aided strategies work well with
the learners as the various faculties are put to play to the advantage of the learners. From
the aforementioned study, it supports the claim that educational technology paved well in

This study will benefit the school administrators and staff as it can be used
as a point of reference on how to design the school curriculum for an optimized classroom

METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the method used in this study, the research
design, the respondents, data gathering instrument, data gathering procedure and the
treatment of data.
Research Design
This study employed the descriptive research design using questionnaire as the
main instrument. It described the attitude of the student respondents toward the use of
computers and elicited the extent of their computer literacy in terms of Microsoft word,
Microsoft excel, PowerPoint presentation which were compared for any significant

In order to gather proper data to this study, survey questionnaire was utilized. The
sample survey was composed of 3 separate parts. The first part is matrix question about
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The second part is likert questions about the
challenges the respondents encounter on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. While
the third part is a scale format, This part was used to determine how students overcome
the challenges they encounter using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The researchers made a self-made questionnaire based from the statement of the
problem. When it was finalized , permission to conduct a study was sought from the
Upon approval , data gathering tools were floated to the selected respondents. The
researchers made sure that all instructions were given clearly to ensure a smooth
transition of the procedure. The questionnaires were then gathered , and the data were

essential applications that the student must have is the Microsoft Word, it is very important
because in our generation most of the school related things are digitally inclined. It allows
us to open and have access to read PDF, handouts, documents and other kind of files.
With Microsoft Word it makes our activities and lives as a student easier. We don’t need
to write on paper to make a letter or school work, we just need to type it and it is more
presentable and the professor can also benefit to it because they can easily understand
the writings.
