STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
BS DHEEMANTH REDDY
The financial industry is at the forefront of utilizing technology to drive community

development and financial inclusion. As a data-driven society, harnessing the power of
technology to improve access to credit and financial services for underrepresented
communities is crucial. I vividly recall when my father struggled to secure credit from
formal sources and how his perseverance paid off, creating an educational
establishment that positively impacted the community. This memory continues to fuel
my motivation as I aim to create a product that can compensate for the inability of banks
and other financial institutions to penetrate the rural Indian population.
My short-term goal is to gain experience as a business analyst in a financial company,

understand the credit landscape, and apply my knowledge of data science tools to

make credit accessible to the people of India by launching innovative financial solutions
that can reach where larger banks and financial institutions cannot. Completing a
Master's degree in Business Analytics will equip me with the specialized knowledge and
skills necessary to make this vision a reality and provide me with the analytical and
technical abilities to build data-driven financial products and services that can improve
the economic well-being of individuals and communities in India. My entrepreneurial
experiences have reinforced my belief that products developed based on data-driven
insights are more likely to succeed and thrive.
As a future professional in business analytics, I anticipate facing several challenges in

my career. However, my experiences co-founding and working on the startup's Spot Pay
and Surge have prepared me to overcome these challenges and excel in my future role
as an analyst. One potential challenge is understanding customer needs and
preferences. From my experience with Spot Pay, I learned that initial customer
interaction during the first one or two minutes is crucial in determining the user's
experience for the rest of their session. To overcome this challenge, I focused on
building a machine-learning model to automate credit allocation instantly instead of
relying on a manual system.
Another challenge is maintaining customer retention. As I experienced with Surge, when

we first launched, we lost many customers and didn't know why. However, after
analyzing our analytical tools, we found that the payment speed needed to be better,
affecting our retention rate. To overcome this challenge, we built our payment gateway,
reducing the payment speed drastically and fixing our leaking bucket.
Dealing with unstructured data is a challenge I may face as a business analyst.
However, I have already developed natural language processing, text mining, data
cleaning, and pre-processing skills to handle unstructured data effectively and extract
valuable insights. In addition, I have experience keeping updated with the new NLP
technologies that help me ensure the insights I gain from unstructured data are accurate
and actionable. As a result, I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills to create
innovative financial solutions that can improve the economic well-being of individuals
and communities.
I have decided to pursue a graduate degree since I am passionate about utilizing data
and the latest technologies to drive community development and financial inclusion. The
Northeastern University D'Amore-McKim School of Business's Master of Science in
Business Analytics program will provide me with the specialized knowledge and skills
necessary to make my vision a reality.
I am particularly excited about the experiential learning opportunities offered through

this program. The opportunity to intern with leading companies or startups and see what
I am learning in the classroom play out in real-time is invaluable. In addition, this will
provide me with a hands-on understanding of the practical application of business
analytics and help me better understand the real-world challenges that businesses face.
My interest in this program is piqued by its curriculum. The core courses in data mining,
statistical and quantitative analysis, multivariate testing, and predictive modeling will
provide me with a strong foundation in the technical skills necessary to analyze data
and make data-driven decisions. Additionally, the marketing track courses will allow me
to explore questions such as building sales, enhancing marketing, or strengthening a
company's infrastructure, which will be crucial for my long-term goal of creating
innovative financial solutions for underrepresented communities in India.
In conclusion, pursuing a graduate degree in Business Analytics at Northeastern

University aligns with my goal of creating innovative financial solutions for
underrepresented communities. My previous experiences, passion for utilizing data and
technology, and the program's focus on experiential learning and industry connections
make me a strong candidate for success. The specialized knowledge and skills gained
through this program will enable me to overcome future career challenges and excel as
a business analyst. I am confident that this opportunity will contribute to my long-term
vision of making credit accessible to the people of India.
