The project proposal must be word processed and Section 3 - Evaluation

presented under the headings listed here: (Approximately 50 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain

how you will reflect on and evaluate your work, as both
an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of the
project.

You should describe how you intend to record

your decision-making and how you will document
changes to your ideas as the project
progresses. The evaluation section should
reference your stated aims and
be reflective and analytical rather than a
description of actions completed.

When working in collaboration with others, you

should comment on how this may impact
either positively or adversely and outline the
steps you can take to minimise disruption to your own
progress.

Additional requirements, not included in the

350 word limit of the proposal:

Project action plan and timetable:

This section provides you with an opportunity to

outline your planning and organisation over a
period of weeks and the activities you will need to
carry out in order to successfully complete
your project in the agreed time frame. The more
time and thought you give to
planning your project, the more successful it is
likely to be.

It is important that you consider how you will

balance ambition, time and realism in the
realisation of the project. You should also include
what you are going to do, how you will do it
and by when. Remember to include: time spent
sourcing materials and other resources to conduct
research, feedback from tutors and peers, and
when you will carry out independent study.

Bibliography (Harvard Format):

This section provides an opportunity to record the

initial research sources, both primary and
secondary, that you intend to use.

Your sources of research should be as wide

as possible and could include libraries,
galleries, books, magazines, films, computer games,
websites, blogs, social media, radio
programmes, archive material etc. Where
appropriate, you should use the Harvard
system of referencing. The bibliography should be
continuously updated as the
project progresses.

Project Title
Childrens book design

Section 1: Rationale
(approx. 100 words)
The brief is asking me to come up with my own project idea and plan and execute it. I feel
somewhat confident in executing this project as I have the abilities to do it but it’s a lot of
work to do in the time. This project will call upon my illustration abilities, composition skills
and time management as well as my story telling and writing abilities. This project provides
me with learning opportunities such as improving my illustration work, practice storytelling,
learning how to plan and execute a brief on my own, pushing me to work more independently
and providing me with portfolio work.

Section 2: Project
Concept
My overall idea for this project is to create a children's book for a target audience of 4–6-year-
(approx. 200 words) olds with interactive elements (these could be colouring in, stickers, pop-ups, puppets and
mazes). I am planning to write a story, sketch out a concept, create illustrations, design and
book cover, decide on the typography for the cover and pages, create the book in InDesign,
make the interactive elements and print the book. To develop this project further I will
research different illustrators, illustration techniques such as collage, InDesign tutorials and
general design for my secondary research. For my primary research I will go to libraries and
take photos of the illustrations on their children's books and also make a survey to be
answered by children about my book as well as peer discussions. The resources I will need
access to are adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, I will need coloured and patterned
card and paper so that I can make collages. I aim to finish the book by the week before the last
half term so I have enough time to get it printed and so I can get it reviewed by peers before I
send it off.

Section 3: Evaluation
(approx. 50 words)
I am going to reflect during my project by documenting my thought process during each week
and by having peer discussions. I am going to effectively use my annotations by documenting
my decision making, screenshotting progress, be critical of my work and recognize the
strengths and using it as a time to reflect and analyse my progress. I will then write a project
evaluation when I have finished my project allowing me to learn from the project so I can take
that knowledge forward into next year.
