LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

Section / February
Time Date: 21, 2020
Friday
Learning The students are able to account the occurrence of land breezes Level 7
Competency and sea breezes, monsoons, and intertropical convergence zone or
ITCZ. Quarter 4th
Learning Knowledge: Differentiate the two types of monsoon. Week No.
Objectives: Skills: Trace the wind direction of the Northeast monsoon and
Southwest monsoon.
(NDRRM objective: To relate the impacts or effects of natural
hazards to daily lives.)
Day 4
Attitude: Practice proactive ways of preparing for the upcoming
monsoon.
Values: Display cooperation during the group activity.
Topic: MONSOONS: AMIHAN AND HABAGAT Duration 1 hr.
Resources Needed Science LM pages 328-331, map (figure 17 and 18 about pressure and winds in January
and July, cartolina, pentel pen, tape, video about monsoon and power point presentation.

PROCEDURE:
Element of the Plan
Prayer and Energizer
Recap: Show a map of air pressure and wind direction near the Philippine area in January and July.
Ask the following questions:
1. In what direction do winds blow? From high pressure area to low pressure area or low pressure area to high
Awareness
pressure area?
2. From what direction does the wind blow near the Philippines in January?
3. From what direction does the wind blow near the Philippines in July?
Give prize/incentives to students who will participate in the class discussion.
Activity Let’s have a game! Picture Analysis.
Show pictures to students. A moving air or wind, plantings crops, floods and landslide in mountain areas.
Let them identify the correct word that would describe the picture.

Ask the learners,

Identify the word that would best describe the 4 pictures?
What is the reason behind of all these natural calamities? Abundance?
Accept possible ideas of students. Give incentives to students who will participate in the activity.
These pictures refers to Monsoon a weather phenomenon.
What is monsoon?
Let the students answer and read what is monsoon all about.
There are 2 types of monsoon that would enter the Philippines in specific months. What are they?
How is a Northeast monsoon/ Amihan differ from a Southwest monsoon/Habagat?
Short discussion of Monsoons and the 2 types of monsoon in the Philippines.
Group activity will be conducted.
The teacher will instruct learners to group into 5 groups. Each group will be given a specific task to do. Let each
group read their assign task. The students can speak English, Tagalog and Bisaya during their group presentation.
Activity Group 1- What is monsoon? Differentiate Amihan from Habagat. (Answer this question through singing.)
Group 2- Why do farmers welcome the monsoon? (the learners will do this through dramatization)
Group 3- Why are fisherman not so happy about the monsoons? (the learners will do this through dramatization)
Group 4- Show or cite practices in preparing for the upcoming monsoons? (news casting)
Group 5- How do the monsoons affect your own town? (talk show)
This group performance will be graded as follows: see rubrics on next page.
1. Organization-20 points
2. Teamwork- 20 points
3. Content-20 points
What is monsoon? Differentiate Amihan from Habagat.
Why do farmers welcome the monsoon?
Analysis
Why are fisherman not so happy about the monsoons?
Show or cite practices in preparing for the upcoming monsoons?
Monsoons is a wind system. It is a seasonal wind of the Indian Ocean and southern Asia, blowing from
the southwest in summer and from the northeast in winter.
Amihan or Northeast monsoon draws cold, dry air from Siberia, China and Japan.
Abstraction Habagat or Southwest monsoon. It is characterized by hot and humid weather, frequently heavy rainfall
and a prevailing wind from the west.
Farmers welcome the monsoons because of rain will be a good source of water for the farmers for their
crops, that’s why they welcome the monsoons because of free rain water.
Let the learners present their outputs or group performance.
Application Show a video clip about monsoons. (Tagalog TV Reports)
How monsoons do affects our daily activities?

Evaluate the students’ performance through the given criteria in the activity. Add additional information in each group
if needed.
Give a short quiz. True or False
1. Monsoon is a wind system.
Assessment 2. Hanging Amihan also known as Southwest monsoon.
3. Hanging Habagat is a Northeast monsoon.
4. The direction of the wind is from high pressure area to low pressure area.
5. The moving air is called wind.
What is ITCZ all about? Refer to your Science LM page 332. Write your answer in your science lecture.
Assignment
In case the group activity/ lesson will not be finished, it will continue next meeting.
