can be safely transmitted if the shear stress is not to exceed 50 MPa.

c. A circular rod having diameter d= 10 mm, L = 1 m is fixed at both end, if the

fixed ends are allowed to yield by 0.1 mm when temperature rise as 100 0 C
then find the temperature stress in the rod if coefficient of thermal expansion
for rod is given as 0.000023 per degree Celsius and E= 68 GPa.

d. A shaft subjected to torque which induces torsional shear stress of 40 MPa

only. Find the values of principal stresses induced in this shaft.

e. A 6 m long thin shell is 800 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick. It is subjected

to an internal pressure of 4MPa. What is the maximum normal stress in thin
shell ? Take Poisson ratio as 0.3 and E = 200GPa.

f. What are the significance of Core of a section

g. Prove that where ever the shear force V is zero at a point along the beam ,
