Shanghai Bytes is one of the well-known snacks since Filipinos


loves lumpiang shanghai for any occasions. This is served hot, crispy and
comes with different flavors. Lumpiang shanghai were hinted at Chinese
origin which first traveled in Philippines in ninth century by Chinese
traders.
The proposed business offers different flavors which differs from
the usual lumpiang shanghai that is served in occasions. We offer
lumpiang shanghai in various flavors such as Chocolate, Spicy Original,
Veggies (comes with crashed potatoes, carrots and cilantro leaves), Fish,
and Cheese.
The researchers conducted a survey and chose 50 respondents
who willingly answered all the questions stated in the survey. In relation
to the marketing mix, the researchers added the place, price, product and
promotion in the questionnaire.

As a result, a survey revealed that 98% of customers eat
Shanghai, while 76% of customers are willing to buy Shanhai. In price,
38% of customers are willing to pay 20-25php, 36% on 26-30php and
26% on 31- 35php for the Shanghai. In place, 70% of the customers were
willing to buy fries from the store located at Caloocan City. Lastly, in
promotion Social Media advertisement got the highest approval of the
respondent. Survey also revealed that Discounts promotion is the
preferred sales promotional tool of the Fireflies. While in Management
Viability, Shanghai Bytes has a total of six (6) personnel including the
owners acting as managers and other high positions wherein delegation
is based on the expertise of each partner.
Based on the information gathered from the survey researcher's
results are already full of recommendations, Shanghai Bytes had the
result that more people want to eat snacks and the main food they like is
Shanghai. Discounts is one of the sales promotional tools to attract
customers and to reach future customers loyalty it also includes the
ambiance of the store. Researchers conclude that social media
advertising is the best promoting tools, such as Face book. The
management properly selects the qualified applicants to avoid repetitive
hiring. In accordance with the law, a company needs to follow the rules
and regulations that benefit employees. Expansion of the business
through franchisees may help the business thrive. The projected financial
aspect of the business in the best-case scenario revealed that return of
investment arises every year and the capital is enough to sustain the first
year of business financial operation.

Chapter 1
Business Concept
This chapter discuss the overall idea of a firm including the
products origin or introduction, the business concept, business logo and
name, the offerings, and the firm’s uniqueness.

Introduction
Lumpiang Shanghai is well known variety of lumpia originally from
the Philippines and derived from Chinese spring rolls. It is crispy deep-
fried Filipino snack. It is usually served in any occasions like birthdays,
baptismal or weddings. Since it become popular, a lot of competitors were
comeout. The term lumpiang shanghai alludes to the lumpia's Chinese
origins, which were initially brought to the Philippines by Chinese traders
in the ninth century. All around Asia, lumpia-like rolls are produced in
china, they are fried and known as spring rolls. (S. Kagan 2022)
According to chinesefoodhistory.org technically lumpia originates
from Fujian, China, it was brought to South-east Asia by Chinese traders
as early as 7- 13th century in the days of the Srivijayan Empire and later
the Modjapahit Empire in the 8 - 16th century. It is an all-time dish in all
occasion of every Filipino Families, it is part of the tradition. Since before
there are kinds of lumpia that's why we've come up for an extraidea,
therefore we added some new flavors that may tickle every filipino's heart
and also their imagination. It's flavors that are chocolate, cheese, Fish,
veggies, spicy and original. Lumpiang shanghai was introduced in the
Philippines during the pre-colonial period by early tp kkein immigrants and
traders from Fujian between 1900 and 1565 A.D. The shanghai with twist
can be market-eyeing because of its uniqueness. It will serve in a small
size that can be eaten in just one bite.

Overview of the Business Concept
The researchers came up with this business since people love to
eat snacks. It is usually served in any locations like Birthday, Baptismal or
weddings. But most of the Lumpiang shanghai are filled with seasonal
ground pork and usually served with a dipping sauce. People can enjoy
food and at the same time they can spend less of their money.
The feasibility focuses on lumpiang shanghai with the different flavors. it
is cheese, vegetable, fish, spicy, and chocolate.
They are so many choices. This business located at North
Caloocan City.
BUSINESS NAME AND LOGO
The researchers know that lumpiang shanghai is one of the most popular
dishes in every occasion, the one that most of the people we're looking in
the table and that's why we started this idea of Shanghai Bytes.

Shanghai Bytes logo shows a cute smiling lumpiang shanghai that
looks like happy to give a wonderful taste to the consumers, it says " Love
at first byte " indicating that one bite is all it takes to catch your hearts and
taste buds.

Business Offering
The proposed business offers colorful and all sorts of flavors in one
pack or per serving which includes cheese, chocolate, vegetable, spicy
and fish flavor. Each serving contains five-byte size shanghai that
contains all the five flavors that we have.

BUSINESS STRUCTURE
This business is a partnership that is run by two or more people
who have made a shared commitment to all financial obligations, legal
liabilities and assets. Equal amount of 835 each person we’re contributed
to raise 5,010 pesos as start up capital.

PROPOSED STORE LAYOUT:


The researchers will be conducting in the leased space that has
been modified by the researchers to match for the place needed in a
functional operation. The surface has 175.79 sq ft and 1409 ft in surface.

Store layouts are important to be spacious and well organized so
that you can freely move inside. Inside our store has 3 different partitions

labeled as production area where we prepare and cook our products and
also serves as the counter station it has 84.99 sq ft allotted space, the
storage is where we put the raw materials and other materials and the
employees belonging it has 69.16 sq ft allotted space, and of course lastly
the toilet that is exclusive for the employees only since the store has no
dine-in it has an allotted space of 21.83 sq ft.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES
Shanghai bytes creates a set of business objectives to be a guide
in running this proposed business in order to generate profit effectively. It
can help us to reach and achieve our goals this business with the specific

amount of time. Below are the lists of the researcher’s long term and
short-term objective that we want to accomplish.

SHORT TERM OBJECTIVE


1. To improve at least 8% of selling product a month
2. To improve at least 3% weekly and daily sales
3. To gains costumers loyalty in a month
4. To improve at least 5% of sales profit in a month

SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
This chapter lists the related studies that researchers have used. A
situational analysis is a thorough investigation of a company’s market
presence based on internal and external factors. Lumpiang shanghai with
a twist encounter the target market, rivals and SWOT Analysis.

Related Studies
According to Jennifer Aranas (2012) introduces the exotic flavors
of her ancestral Filipino homeland. The recipes combine traditional
Filipino dishes with New World variations, reflecting the author's Filipino-
American roots. Filipinos loves to cook and make a something different or
something unique on food. Filipinos prefer to experiment with flavors and
create something new in kitchen. Also, Filipinos were skilled at
developing new dishes this is what we inherited from our ancestors who
are good at creating something new in our Filipino taste.

We make lumpiang shanghai with a variety of flavors, including


spicy lumpia, veggie, chocolate, cheese, and fish flavors, that can be
served on special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and
christenings, as well as on regular days and always as street food. The
researchers are inspired to create something distinctive that Filipinos can
enjoy.

Industry Review
Every occasion in the Philippines Lumpiang shanghai is always
present on the tables but they only tasted same traditional flavor, the
pork, fish, and sometimes chicken shanghai but not until now because
Shanghai Bytes offer a variety of flavors such as Cheese, Chocolate,
Vegetables, Fish, and Spicy flavor. But what is Lumpiang shanghai really
is? Lumpiang shanghai is a Filipino Spring rolls from China originally
made for Chinese New Year banquets, spring rolls were stacked to look
like bars of gold. Spring rolls got their name because the New Year marks
the start of spring in the lunar calendar. Most of us use refined flour
wrappers to make our spring rolls, summer rolls or egg rolls, but in
Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, summer or spring rolls are generally
consumed with rice paper wraps. In fact, the stuffing is of freshly sliced
vegetables such as cucumber, carrot, red, green or yellow bell pepper,
cabbage, olives, jalapenos, or any local seasonal vegetable available.
Replacing high-calorie refined flour with rice paper can help you enjoy the
spring rolls without feeling guilty. Including rice paper rolls in your diet is a
healthy choice, as the thin sheets won’t make you sleepy or feel heavy on
the tummy. It works great with lunch snacks, or even on the go meal
preps.

One of the most important in creating successful business is
choosing and identifying the target market. Shanghai Bytes are focusing
its marketing efforts on the demographics that has lots of potential
consumer of Shanghai Bytes.
1. MEN AND WOMEN - Both men and women are the target
market of Shanghai Bytes, all of us have knacks for snacks regardless of
gender. Hence Shanghai Bytes are dedicated it be inclusive and wanting
to deliver our service to all gender.

of NPC line lower, Congress Village, Caloocan City as the target market
of the business. Local residents and passerby are the easiest target
market as the business is located alongside the street where there are
lots of establishments

1. LOCAL AND FOREIGN CITIZENS / TOURISTS - The proposed
business, Shanghai Bytes is geographically located in Congress Village,
Caloocan City, it is surrounded by schools and other establishment thus
filled with target markets.

too close to numerous educational institutions, students are one of our
primary target customers, by offering them lower rates, students can
benefit from our service.

away from their jobs to prepare meals and simply want to have a snack.
3. TRAVELERS - Shanghai Bytes makes traveling easier for

so being different and unique from the other competitors is a must, and
before entering the market you should know and study your competition
so in that way you can devise a plan or strategy to be able to catch the

The viability of the proposed business is covered in this chapter.
Regarding its marketing, management, and employee aspects, the
aspects of production and operation, finances, and law which can
forecast if the company will make back the investment made by the
proponent.

Marketing Aspects
After conducting a survey, the researchers selected 50
participants. who voluntarily responded to all of the survey's questions.
Referring to the location, pricing, product, and the marketing mix, the
researchers added advancement in the questionnaire.

Survey Results
The survey questionnaire was intendedly administered on the 8th
day of November 2022 to 50 respondents merely from and residing within
the vicinity of chosen location (Congress Village Caloocan City, Metro
Manila) where the business will be established.
There will be no specific target market in terms of gender, the business is
open for all age groups. But to determine the percentage distribution of
respondents the researcher decided to include it on the survey
questionnaire. The following are the results of a survey regarding product,
price, place, and promotion:

A product that satisfies consumer requirements and wants can be
tangible or intangible. The company provides online tutoring services for
customers.

and 2% Maybe. Therefore, this shows that many customers are
interested and want to eat Shanghai.

The result shows that 76% of customers are willing to buy Shanghai
Bytes, 0% No, and 24% Maybe. Therefore, this shows that the business
should provide many supplies for making Shanghai Bytes.

various customers that may visit.

Figure 3.6 shows customers willingness to buy shanghai from the


store located at Congress village, Caloocan City.
The result shows that 70% of the customers were willing to buy
fries from the store located at Congress Village, Caloocan City, 2% on
No, and 28% on Maybe. Therefore, we knew that most people are willing
to buy Shanghai in Congress Village, Caloocan City. Results may clearly
show the willingness of the customer to go on the physical store business
where it is located.

business. Therefore, Results may clearly show the most effective sales
promotion is Discounts as the customers wants in the sales promotional
tools of the Shanghai Bytes.

Following the business agreement and protocols. For the business

standards. Permits and licenses were taken into to consideration by
Shanghai Bytes.

BARANGAY PERMIT
When starting a new business in the Philippines, one of the paper
work or permit needed is a Barangay business clearance that can be
acquired from local Barangays. This certificate is also required when
renewing expired Mayor's permit or business license, this permit is one of
the necessary permits to open or start a business.

MAYOR'S PERMIT

Mayor's permit or also known as Business permit ensures that the
business complies to all of the ordinance arule of the municipality. A
Mayor's permit is a permit from local government unit where your
business is standing or located is required for the business to be
operational.

BUREAU OF INTERNAL REVENUE (BIR)


Businesses are required to issue receipt to their clients or
customers so it needed to have this permit to be able to print their
receipts, register book of accounts, pay business-related taxes, and
provide a Tax Identification Number (TIN) to each employee.

DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT (DOLE)


Employees are one of the foundations in the business so that's
why there is a government sector protecting their rights. Businesses and
employer should have this permit as one of the necessary paperwork to
have an employee and to operate.

PHILHEALTH INSURANCE
The Philippine health Insurance (Phil health)is one of the
government sectors that protecting the rights of the workers by giving
them health coverage. It is a Philippine tax-exempt, government owned,
and controlled operation (GOCC) that is affiliated by Department of
Health.

DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (DTI)


This permit is needed by the business to have the authority to run
their business. This certificate is useless without pertinent business

documents like Barangay clearance and other licenses. This certificate is
not required for free lancers.

SANITARY PERMIT
Every business specially in food industry, proper disposal and
handling of waste are necessary in the business so they need to have the
sanitary permit to ensure the products and the establishment itself is safe
for the customers and people around the premises and to ensure the
sanitary code of the Philippines.

Financial Aspects
This aspect of the study presents the total project cost, sales
projection, financial assumptions and supporting computation, partner’s
contribution and source of financing, projected cash flow statement,
projected income statement and partner's expected change in
capital and projected statement of financial position.

General Assumption
1. Shanghai Bytes Applied Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles (GAAP) and applicable standards of accounting. To make an
assumption, fair presentation and reliable information for the users of this
feasibility study.
2. Financial Statements were prepared on the basis of historical
cost.
3. Based on the industry analysis, market analysis, target location
and promotional strategies of the business, we are expecting to generate
gross annual sales of 2.8M total sales for the first year of operation and
expected to increase by 10% per annum.
4. The cost of sales for all products are parallel to the increase of
sales for respective years.
5. Production supplies are computed for one year.
6. The rent expense of Shanghai Bytes is ₱36,000.00 annually and
was considered as fixed expenses for 5 years.

7. Two-month advance and one-month rent deposit of ₱9,000.00
was required for any possible damages or obligations that may arise in
the first year.
8. The straight-line method of depreciation was used to depreciate
fixed assets. Estimated useful life of fixed assets is 5 years.
9. Permits and licenses were necessary expenses annually.
10. Salaries per employee increased by 5% based on actuarial
assumption.
11. Utilities expenses are assumed to increase by 10% annually
due to sales increased.
12. Advertising and promotional expenses are assumed to
increase by 5% annually due to sales increased.
13. Shanghai Bytes opened a business with a capital of
₱300,000.00. Business partners invested ₱50,000 each.
14. Net Income/Loss is annually distributed to partners.
15. The CREATE Act was applied to the Income before tax.
16. Republic Act No. 10963 was applied.
17. Phil health Circular No. 2019-0009 was applied to all direct
contributory members using the new premium rate and Senate Bill #1966
was applied for in 2022.
18. 80% of total available supplies are used every year.
19. Monthly VAT Payable & Income Tax Payable is paid on the

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter discusses the researcher's findings and
recommendations after analyzing and evaluating the data and information
gathered through surveys and other useful methods.

Conclusion
Based on the gathered data, the researchers concluded the
following:

Market Viability
The researchers came to the conclusion that Shanghai Bytes’
products and services were offered, and they discovered that choosing
the optimal location for a firm is a significant consideration. Lower
Congress Village, Caloocan City, +VG2 NPC line is where Shanghai
Bytes’ stand is situated. Regular workers, students, and commuters make
up the target market for the researchers, and the area is quite populated.

Management Viability
The researchers discover that personnel need to be adaptable,
informed, and talented in order to provide clients with outstanding service.
Bringing a positive attitude when applying for a top management position
in the business world.

Technical Viability
The researchers came to the conclusion that they required
machinery, raw materials, equipment, and marketing strategies to entice
