Sec. Austin Letter 3.28.23 (Final)
Secretary Austin:
America is the leader of the free world because we stand for universal human values, including
the defense of children. Our moral authority comes from standing on the side of good in the
historical conflict between good and evil.
As the co-chairs of the Congressional Family Caucus, we were shocked to read a report that the
Department of Defense (DOD) medical providers are advocating for “puberty suppression and
affirming hormones,” which amounts to chemical castration, for children as young as seven
years old.1 DOD medical providers went as far as saying that “children can begin participating in
their medical decision-making as early as age seven years.”2
If DOD advocates for the chemical castration of 7-year-old children to further a radical leftwing
political agenda, we lose our moral standing in the world. The nations and people caught in the
middle of the 21st Century struggle between American dominance or Chinese dominance will
view us as morally lost. You have led one of the greatest recruitment and retention crises in the
history of our military because you have forced our armed forces to embrace woke politics ahead
of their mission to defend our nation.
1. Have you fired David A. Klein, Thomas Baxter, Noelle S. Larson, and Natasha A.
Schvey for demanding the chemical castration of 7-year-old children? If not, why not?
Please note that Klein, Schvey and Baxter work at Travis Air Force Base in California
and Larson works at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
2. Does the Biden Administration agree with the doctors that a 7-year-old can make
decisions about life-changing hormone injections?
3. Will DOD use taxpayer funds to perform “gender transition” procedures on minors as
requested by these doctors?

Journal of Public Health, March 2023.
4. Does DOD believe that hormone treatment is reversible? If so, what science is DOD
relying upon?
Please respond in writing to these questions and requests no later than two weeks after the date
of this letter.
Sincerely,
