I. Learning Competencies Explain how different organ system work together
A. Knowledge Identify the parts of the respiratory system.
B. Skills Tell the functions of the different parts of the respiratory system.
C. Attitudes Participate actively in a given task.
II. CONTENT Respiratory System
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages MELC Science 6 SLM 6 “The Human Body System”
2. Learner’s Material pages SLM 6 “The Human Body System” pp. 3 - 8
3. Textbook pages Breaking Through Science 6, pp. 108 - 120
4. Additional Materials from
LRMDS
B. Other Learning Resources
1V. PROCEDURES
A. Engage ( 5 minutes) Review:
1. What system of our body that is responsible in breaking down
foods into molecules in order that our body can use it?
2. Name the different parts of the digestive system.

Motivation:
All pupils will stand. Let them inhale and exhale.
Ask:
1. What organs are involve in breathing?
2. Why do you breath?
3. Did you take care your body?

B. Explore (4 minutes) 1. Let the learners watch a short video clip about the respiratory
system.

C. Explain ( 15 minutes) 2. Give the different parts of the respiratory system.

Pharynx
Nasal Cavity
Larynx

Trachea

Bronchi

Nasal C

3. Call learners to match the functions of each parts.

Nasal Cavity/Nose
The nostrils are the opening into the nasal passages that are
lined with hairs. The nasal cavity is lined by glands that
produce
sticky mucus. Dust, pollen, and other materials are trapped by
mucus. This trapping of air impurities helps in filtering the air
you
breathe.
Pharynx
Pharynx is also called the throat. The common passageway for
both food,
water, and air.
Larynx
The larynx contains two vocal cords that vibrate when air
passes by them.
Trachea
Trachea is known as the windpipe. It also filters the air we
inhale and branches
into the bronchi.
Bronchi
Bronchi are two tubes that carry air into the lungs.
Bronchial tubes branch into smaller tubes called bronchioles.
Bronchioles
Bronchioles are smaller tubes that branch off into alveoli.
Alveoli
Alveoli are grapelike structures at the end of each bronchioles
surrounded
by capillaries. Between the alveoli and capillaries, the exchange
of oxygen
and carbon dioxide takes place.
Lungs
Lungs are the main organ of the respiratory system. This is
where exchange
of gases occurs, oxygen is taken in and carbon dioxide is
expelled out.
Diaphragm
Diaphragm is a dome-
shaped muscle that
controls breathing
which is
located at the bottom
of the lungs. When we
inhale, the diaphragm
contracts
and moves down
allowing air to move
into the lungs. When
we exhale, the
diaphragm expands,
thus reducing the
amount of space for
the lungs and
forces air out.
D. Elaborate ( 15 minutes) Group Activity
Activity Sheets will be distributed.

Group one:
Draw the respiratory system and label each parts.

Group two :
Give the functions of each part of the respiratory system.

Group three:
Arrange the organs in circulatory system in order to show how the air
circulates in our body.
Nostril Pharynx Larynx Trachea

Bronchi Alveoli

Group four:
Make a jingle of the different parts of the respiratory system.

Group five :
Mix and match the parts of the respiratory system with the
Illustration.

E. Generalization ( 3 minutes) What are the parts of respiratory system?

Give the functions of each part.
F. Evaluation Fill in the blank using the correct words inside the box to complete
the sentence.

Oxygen trachea carbon dioxide

Pharynx nostril bronchioles

Trachea alveoli

The respiratory system is the system responsible for the exchange

of (1) ____________to (2) ___________ in the blood to be used
by the
cells.
As you inhale, air enters the (3) ____________ and it passes
through the nasal cavity, (4) ______________ , larynx , ( 5)
___________ bronchial tube, bronchioles (6) ______________.

G. Additional activities for application

and remediation. Directions: Read and understand each question carefully and
explain your answer clearly. Write your answers in your Science
journal.

1. You are living in a crowded community. How can you protect

yourself
from respiratory diseases such as cold and pneumonia? Give at
least 2
ways.

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in
the evaluation.
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored below
80%.
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No.
of learners who have caught up
with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my Teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor
can help me solved?
