FORD vehicles can be identified from the following numbers:
 

  Location
- stamped on the vehicle
Vehicle identification number - VIN -  - on the type plate (factory plate)
- behind the windscreen
Engine Number - on the engine block

 
The exact locations of the stamped VIN are shown in the following imagery.
 
When using the engine number to identify a vehicle, it is necessary to provide the Ford factory with the engine
number and the exact engine type. It is not possible to identify an individual vehicle. It is however possible to
provide a limited range of likely VIN.

With the Ford Galaxy a new type plate (identification plate) was introduced, in the form of a sticker. The
sticker is white and consists of a metal foil. Any attempt to remove this foil destroys it.

The engine number is identical to the last 7 characters of the VIN, and can be used to identify the vehicle.
Exceptions: Ford Mustang (model year 2005)
The Ford C-Max has a Peugeot engine. Therefore on these engines there is also a Peugeot engine number (see
Peugeot engine numbers) next to the Ford engine number (the last 7 characters of the VIN).

4.  Production plate:

 
On Ford cars from Model Year 1985 onwards, an additional plate is fixed next to the type plate (identification
plate), on the right-hand side, in the direction of travel, of the radiator yoke.
The last two letters (11th and 12th characters) of the VIN and the serial number can be read in the top row of this
plate.

N  =  Year of Manufacture
D  =  Month of Manufacture
 
This additional plate is no longer used on newer models. A metal plate was fixed to the radiator yoke on the
Puma and the Cougar. According to Ford, however, it is not possible to identify a vehicle using the data on this
plate
