Why we should not spend money on space exploration

Counter- argument (disadvantages about spending money on space exploration)

- First, space exploration is a waste of money ( https://debatewise.org/137-

space-exploration-is-a-waste-of-money/ )

The needs of humanity should always come first. there are pp on earth who need
help, they should be help, rather than seeing money spent on sending robots onto
other planets. Humanity is the number one priority, keeping human race alive is a
necessity. Sure, its great that NASA can create modern technology to the next
level, so why not make something that directly benefits us when there are millions
round the world who are starving to death, there are many students can not go to
school as their poverty. All you know , space travel projects require vast sums of
money, it costs billions of dollars to construct a spacecraft. According to media
press of US in 2020, the united states government spent 23.3 billions USD on
NASA while more than 50 million Americans experienced food insecurity, which
increased due to COVID-19 (https://theappalachianonline.com/opinion-spending-
on-space-is-wasteful/ ). Therefore, that amount of money should be better spent on
essential sectors such as education or healthcare.
- Second, exploring space is very dangerous. It would be very risky to travel
to other planets which we know very little about. Passengers on a space trip
could be put in danger by potential threats such as extreme weather events in
the outer space or even many strange phenomena that humans cannot
explain. Go and search space shuttle disasters on gg yoou will find tons of
information on how NASA failed on some its mission. NASA scientists
have lost contact with the latest unmanned spacecraft sent to Mars, the
$165m Mars Polar Lander. In September, the $125m Mars Climate Orbiter
mission also failed, after an embarrassed mix- up over metric and imperial
measurements. In addition, there are several traumatic events in the history
of space exploration.
- Challenger space shuttle disaster. On January 28, 1986, the space shuttle
Challenger performed the STS 51-L mission to launch the satellite TDRS-B.
After 73 seconds, the ship exploded in the sky over the Atlantic Ocean,
central Florida at 11:38 pm. All seven crew members were killed.
Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. This is the second space shuttle disaster that
occurred after the Challenger spacecraft exploded upon launch in 1986. On
January 16, 2003, Columbia began its STS-107 flight to the ISS, carrying seven
astronauts. . On February 1, 2003, while returning to Earth, a piece of foam
insulation broke off from Columbia's fuel tank and slammed into the left wing edge
of this space shuttle. All crew members perished.

- Third, many alarming issues need to be addressed as a priority, such as
global warming, melting ice or greenhouse. Instead of discovering new
planets, we should focus our workforce, time and money on these problems
as I said before in our Earth before too much worse thing happen. Many
countries’ s government in the world specially in develop nation are racing
in the battle of universe discovering to find a higher position in the
international market. However, they seem ignore environmental issues,
alarming disaster on our own planet. As a result, human is the only ones to
bear the consequences of floods, droughts, etc.
For example : in Agriculture industry. This table shows 3 most affected
regions by natural disaster. ( from 2005 to 2015) according to FAO ( Food
and Agriculture Organization ) ( http://www.fao.org/3/I8656EN/i8656en.pdf
)

Asia $48 billion

Africa $26
Latin America and Caribbean $22
