Charades Relay

Purpose:
This is a dynamic, fun and interacve game. It provides an interesng twist on the old-fashioned game of
Charades. It can be played with a group of almost any size since the team structure can be easily modified. It
is perfect for an indoor rainy-day acvity.

Set-Up:
Step 1: In advance, make cards for each charade challenge. They can be movies, books or television shows.
Consider the age of players when choosing the specific charades.
Step 2: Fold all cards and place them in a bag or box that players will choose from on their turn.
Step 3: At game me, divide teams based on the total number of players. You can play with as few as 4
players per team and as many as 8 players per team. It helps to have even numbers, if possible. You can play
with as many teams as you like. If playing with many teams, it’s helpful to be in a large space to allow
separaon between teams for effecve game play and organizaon.

Rules of Play:
Step 1: Each team divides into pairs. If teams are small or you have an odd number, you can play with
singles instead of pairs. All other rules remain the same.
Step 2: The first pair for each team runs to the middle where a leader has the bag or bucket of charade
cards.
Step 3: Each pair picks 1 card and runs back to their team.
Step 4: Each pair acts out the charade on their card while their team members try to figure out the charade
they are doing.
Step 5: The pair acng out the charade must do the following - - 1) No talking to team members 2) Start off
their acng with the sign for movie (hands moving like a camera rolling), book (hands open like a book) or
television show (hands forming box like a T.V.)
Step 6: When a team member guesses the charade correctly, the next pair from that team runs to the
middle to get a new card from the leader and the process starts over again.
Step 7: Pairs for each team must take turns so that each pair gets a fair number of turns.
Step 8: Each team keeps the cards that they answer correctly.
Step 9: If a team is having a difficult me solving a charade, they may return that card to the bag and select a
new card. They may only return a card if they have tried to solve it unsuccessfully.
Step 10: At the end of the allo=ed acvity me, the leader tallies how many cards each team has earned to
determine the winner. The team with the most cards wins!
