The ice and rain protection system allows unrestricted operation of the aircraft in
icing conditions and heavy rain. There are sub-systems as following:

- Wing anti-ice - Probe heat Non-debrief

- Engine anti-ice - Water/Waste anti-ice
- Window heat - Rain removal

Principle

Anti-Ice System

Hot air : - Four outboard leading-edge slats of each wing.

= Engine Narcell
- Engine air intakes.

Electrical heating : - Flight compartment windows.

- Sensors, pitot probes, static ports, TAT probes and angle of attack probes.
- Waste – water drain mast.

Wing Anti-Ice

ลมร้อนผ่าน pneumatic มี 7 แผ่น / ปี ก

system ก่อนจึงนํ าไปใช้ 4 แผ่นนอก (แผ่นที่4ถึง7)
มี WAI
3 แผ่นใน ไม่มี WAI
เพราะอยู่ ใกล้ engine
และมีท่อลมร้อนออกมาด้วย

แผ่นที่1-3 มีท่อลมร้อนต่อจากไพลอยขึ้นไปเป่า ซึ่ง

ร้อนมาก แต่ไปไม่ถึงช่วงแผ่น4-7

In flight :
Hot air from the pneumatic system heats the four outboard
slats (4-7) of each wing.

On ground :
The system can not operate but the flight crew only can initiate a test
sequence by turning the system ON (valve open only 30 sec).

Wing Anti-Ice ลมร้อนผ่าน pneumatic

system ก่อนจึงนํ าไปใช้

If the system detects a leak during normal

operation, the affected side’s wing anti-ice valve
automatically closes. (refer to pneumatic system)

In the event of an electrical power supply failure or low

pressure condition, the valves close.

The Windows/ Probes are heated :

• automatically when at least one engine is running, or in flight.
• manually when the flight crew switches ON the PROBE/ WINDOW

Ice Detection System

An external visual ice indicator with an integrated

light is installed between the two windshields.

The ice detection system has two separate ice detector probes on
the forward lower section of the fuselage. The system operates
automatically and starts at electrical power up.

The messages which indicate ice is detected or not are:

• ICE DETECTED is shown on E/WD.

• SEVERE ICE DETECTED is shown on E/WD.
• ICE NOT DET is shown on ECAM MEMO page when ice is no longer (about 3 min) detected
after ENG or WING ANTI-ICE p/b is selected ON inflight.

ECAM BLEED page
Green when the corresponding valve is open (air pressure
is normally regulated).
Amber when:
- the valve is open and the air pressure is low or high,
- one of the valves is not closed and the WING ANTI
ICE pushbutton is in the OFF position,
- on ground, the valve stays open after 30 seconds.
ANTI ICE indication
The arrows are replaced by amber XX when:
WHITE when the WING anti ice pb sw is set to ON - the valve position data is not available,
and all the valves are open. - the WING ANTI ICE pushbutton position is not known.

AMBER when the WING anti ice pb sw is set to ON When the valves are closed, nothing is displayed.
and:
- at least one valve is closed, or
- the detected downstream pressure is not in
the operational range, or
- on ground, the valves don’t close after 30
seconds (ground test).

AMBER when the WING anti ice pb sw is set to OFF

and at least one valve is not closed.

ANTI ICE is replaced by amber XX if the WING ANTI

ICE pushbutton position is not known.

If none of the previous conditions are met, nothing

is displayed.

ANTI-ICE Panel

WING ANTI ICE pb sw

Controls the wing anti ice system on both ENG ANTI ICE pb sw
wings simultaneously.
Control the respective engine anti ice system.
The WING anti ice valves are closed.
The ENG anti ice valves are closed.

The WING anti ice valves are open, provided

The ENG anti ice valves are open, provided air
that a pneumatic supply is available.
bleed is available from the engines.
On the ground, the valves open for 30 seconds
Continuous ignition is automatically activated,
and then close automatically (test sequence).
when at least one valve is open.

FAULT light illuminates:

- when the valve disagrees with the selected FAULT light illuminates:
position, or - when the valve disagrees with the selected
- when low pressure is detected, or position, or
- during the valve transit. - during the valve transit.

ANTI-ICE Panel

PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pb

In the AUTO position, the probes and windows are

heated automatically:
- in flight or
- on ground, when at least one engine is running
(except the TAT probes which are not heated and the
pitots which are heated at low level).

In the ON position, the probes and windows are

heated continuously (except the TAT probes on
ground).

Preliminary Cockpit preparation

Check WIPERS set at OFF. Check PROBE/WINDOW HEAT set at AUTO.

Check RAIN REPELLENT pressure and quantity indicator (if installed and operative)

Normal Operation
After start

SET ANTI ICE as required.

Note: If icing conditions may be expected (OAT≤≤ 10oC on ground or TAT≤≤ 10oC in flight,
with visible moisture) .On Anti-ice panel, select ANTI-ICE to ON (ENG and WING) but
WING anti-ice is only operate for test 30 sec.

On Gnd

Normal Operation
After takeoff / Climb

SAT = - 50oC

SET ANTI ICE as required.

Note: ENG ANTI ICE must be ON when icing conditions exist, or are anticipated,
except during climb and cruise when the SAT is below – 40oC.

Descent Preperation

SAT = - 50oC

SET ANTI ICE as required.

Note: If potential icing conditions are expected, the engine anti-ice system is switched
ON prior to starting the descent, even if the SAT is below –40oC.

SET ANTI ICE as required. SET ANTI ICE to OFF

Note: If engine anti-ice is used, take care to control taxi speed, especially on
wet or slippery surfaces (ground idle is increased)

Cause : One wing valve remains open, when

wing anti-ice is selected off.
