Viewed

KEEP IT MIND!
Watching has been part of our daily activities as a student you should be
responsible in what you are watching. Be cautious with the time you spend watching and be
selective with the type of programs you watch. With the help of this lesson it will guide you by
enhancing your own viewing skills.

At the end of lesson, you are expected to:

 Define what is genre and viewing;
 Organize information from materials viewed;
 Determine the purpose and the intended audience of the materials viewed;
 Evaluate the importance (truthfulness) of the material viewed and lastly;
 Identify the features and differentiate the different genres of the material viewed.

GENRE

 A French word which means sort or style.

 Genre is a type of text, a type of composition, that shares
particular aim, style, organization, technique, or form.
 a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by
similarities in form, style, or subject matter.

Since you’re always exposed to the different types of multimedia at this time we will
now focus on this skill that you should also take into consideration the Fifth Macro Skill,
which is the Viewing.

Viewing

 an act of watching, seeing, analyzing, interpreting, and constructing meaning.

 Understanding visual images and connecting them to accompanying spoken or written
words.

Television has been the most common platform used for viewing but the
emergence of digital technology has changed the viewing landscape making online materials
also readily available or accessible combining both platforms.

Different Types of Genres

1. 1. News Flash
 a single item of important news that is broadcast separately and often interrupts other
programs.
  a short news report on radio or television, giving the most recent information about an
important or unexpected event.

 usually a part of an entire news program that tells and foretells weather conditions in

5. Movie Clip
 is a short video from a longer film or movie.

 is a research-based reporting that deals with a specific topic or format.
