This study was aimed at determining the verbal, visual,

language used in teaching and academic performance in

mathematics of grade eight students of Mongolbongol National

High School. Specifically, it sought the student’s profile

in terms gender, family income and parent’s educational

attainment and the teaching strategy used in terms of verbal

strategy, visual strategy and language used. This study was

conducted at Mongolbongol National High School in the

municipality of San Vicente province of Northern Samar. A

total of 76 Grade 8 students were the respondent of this

study having 42 male and 34 female. This study used the

descriptive-correlational research design. The questionnaire

contains three parts;

Part I determined the Students profile in terms of

gender, family income and parent’s educational attainment,

Part II sought to determine the Teaching strategy used in

terms of verbal strategy, visual strategy and language used,

and Part III determines the Mathematics Academic Performance

of learners.

This study found out that the student’s profile in

terms of gender revealed that females are outnumbered by

male students having 42 male and 34 female Grade 8 students

of Mongolbongol National High School. It was also found out

that the family income has 64.47% for income below 10, 000,

22.37% for income 11,000 to 20,000, 7.89% for income 20,001

to 30,000 and 5.26% for income 31,000 to 40,000 and 0% for

income 40,001 and above. Parent’s educational attainment’s

result revealed that only 5.26% were elementary graduate,

14.47 were elementary undergraduate, 23.68% were high school

graduate, 26.32% were high school undergraduate, 13.16% were

college graduate and 17.11% were college undergraduate.

It was found that teaching strategies used in terms of

verbal strategy, visual strategy and language used has no

significant relationship with the learner’s academic

performance in mathematics.
