Before starting with the use of the “SXG” series X-ray generator, please carefully read and follow the
instructions contained herein in order to obtain the best performance and assure the safety of the patient,
operator, equipment and the environment.

Always pay close attention to the messages when operating the equipment.

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERATOR DESCRIPTION

The SXG high frequency X-ray generator is intended for use in radiographic only stationary X-ray systems.
The X-ray generator consists of a main power cabinet, and a control console. The main power cabinet
contains the HT tank and control circuits, the filament drivers, the low speed starter, and interface
connections to the other equipment.

1.1.1 PURPOSE OF USE

The SXG X-ray generator is a device used to generate X-ray. It is commonly used by radiographers to
acquire an X-ray image of the inside of an object as in medicine.

1.1.2 GENERAL FEATURES

 Support a full automatic function for kV and mA calibration


 Support a feedback waveform display function for mA calibration
 Support a convenient user interface for system parameter setting
 Support a various system diagnostic functions
 Support an self-diagnostics monitoring feature and real-time status display feature

1.2.1 X-RAY PROTECTION

THIS X-RAY UNIT MAY BE DANGEROUS TO PATIENT AND OPERATOR


UNLESS SAFE EXPOSURE FACTORS AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ARE
OBSERVED.

X-RAY EQUIPMENT IF NOT PROPERLY USED MAY CAUSE INJURY.


ACCORDINGLY, AN OPERATOR SHALL THOROUGHLY READ AND
UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE
THIS EQUIPMENT.

ALL OPERATORS USING X-RAY EQUIPMENT MUST BE AWARE OF THE


DANGER OF EXCESSIVE EXPOSURE TO X-RAY.

VARIOUS PROTECTIVE MATERALS AND DEVICES ARE AVAILABLE. IT IS


STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT SUCH MATERIALS AND DEVICES TO BE
USED.

1.2.2 RADIATION PROTECTION

Because exposure to X-ray radiation may damage health, use great care to provide protection against
exposure to the primary beam. Some of the effects of X-ray radiation are cumulative and may be
extended over a period of months or years.

The beat safety regulation for X-ray operator is “Avoid exposure to the primary beam at all times”. The
secondary radiation may occur when there is an object on the route of primary beam.

THE EQUIPMENT IS DANGEROUS TO BOTH PATIENT AND OPERATOR


UNLESS IT IS PROPERLY USED. ONLY PATIENT SHOULD STAY X-RAY
ROOM. IF OTHER PERSONS INEVITABLY HAVE TO STAY IN THE ROOM
DURING X-RAY OPERATIONN, PROPER PROTECTIVE MEASUREMENT
SHOULD BE USED.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXPOSURE X-RAY TO UNNECESSARY AREA. TO


MINIMIZE EXPOSUR, USE SUCH ITEMS AS LEAD SCREENS, LEAD
IMPREGNATED GLOVES, APRONS, ETC.

POWER OFF THE EQUIPMENT EXCEPT X-RAY EXPOSURE.


MAKE SURE TO POWE OFF THE EQUIPMENT DURING CLEANING,
SANITIZING, AND STERILIZING TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND A
LEAKAGE OF ELECTRICITY.

TO NOT USE THE EQUIPMENT WHERE METALLIC MATERIALS CAN BE


ADULTERATED TO PREVENT PROPERTY DAMAGE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, AND
INJURY.

DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE MACHINE.


IT COULD CAUSES ELECTRIC SHOCK OR PROBLEMS.

DO NOT OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT IF THERE IS THE THREAT OF AN


EARTHQUAKE. FOLLOWING AN EARTHQUAKE, ENSURE THAT THE
EQUIPMENT IS OPERATING PROPERLY AND IT’S MANDATORY TO CHECK
IT BEFORE COMPLETELY UNDER ANDY ASPECT BEFORE USING IT AGAIN.
FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS PRECAUTION MAY EXPOSE PATIENTS AN
ENVIRONMENT TO HAZARDS.

If you want to turn on the X-ray generator, press the ‘POWER ON’ switch as shown picture above.

2.2.1.2 POWER OFF CONTROL

If you want to turn off the X-ray generator, press the ‘POWER OFF’ switch as shown picture above.

POWER OFF THE EQUIPMENT EXCEPT X-RAY EXPOSURE.


MAKE SURE TO POWE OFF THE EQUIPMENT DURING CLEANING,
SANITIZING, AND STERILIZING TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND A
LEAKAGE OF ELECTRICITY.

2.2.2 X-RAY EXPOSURE CONTROL

2.2.2.1 X-RAY PREPARATION

If you want to make an X-ray exposure, press the ‘PREPARATION’ switch as shown above. As soon as the
preparation switch is pressed, the rotor is driven.

2.2.2.2 X-RAY EXPOSURE

In order to make the X-ray exposure, press and hold the ‘X-RAY EXPOSURE’ switch while pressing the
preparation switch as shown picture above.

DO NOT RELEASE THE X-RAY SWITCH UNTIL THE END OF THE X-RAY
EXPOSURE OPERATION.

2.3.1 KV CONDITION CONTROL

To adjust the kV condition, press the kV Condition Control button as shown picture above. And when the
condition is allowed from the generator, the kV condition will be updated on the screen as shown picture
above.

WHEN THE OPERATOR CHANGES THE CONDITION, KV WARNING MESSAGE


CAN APPEAR ON SCREEN. AT THIS TIME, PLEASE WAIT OPERATION. THE
WARNING MESSAGE WILL BE CLEARED AUTOMATICALLY.

THE MAXIMUM VALUE OF KV CONDITION IS 125[KV] IN SXG-32R AND SXG-


40R GENERATOR SERIES.

2.3.2 MA CONDITION CONTROL

To adjust the mA condition, press the mA Condition Control Button as shown picture above. And when the
condition is allowed from generator, the mA condition will be updated on the screen as shown picture
above.

WHEN THE OPERATOR CHANGES THE CONDITION, MA WARNING MESSAGE


CAN APPEAR ON SCREEN. AT THIS TIME, PLEASE WAIT OPERATION. THE
WARNING MESSAGE WILL BE CLEARED AUTOMATICALLY.

THE MAXIMUM VALUE OF MA CONDITION IS 400[mA] WITH SXG-32R


MODEL AND 500[mA] WITH SXG-40R MODEL.

To adjust the X-ray exposure time condition, press the Time Condition Control button as shown picture
above. And when the condition is allowed from the generator, the time condition will be updated on the
screen as shown picture above.

WHEN THE OPERATOR CHANGES THE CONDITION, WARNING MESSAGE


CAN APPEAR ON SCREEN. AT THIS TIME, PLEASE WAIT OPERATION. THE
WARNING MESSAGE WILL BE CLEARED AUTOMATICALLY.

THE RANGE OF X-RAY EXPOSURE TIME CONDITION IS FROM 1 MILLI-


SECOND TO 10 SECONDS.

To adjust the mAs condition, press the mAs Condition Control button as shown picture above. And when the
condition is allowed from the generator, the time condition will be updated on the screen as shown picture
above.

WHEN THE OPERATOR CHANGES THE CONDITION, WARNING MESSAGE


CAN APPEAR ON SCREEN. AT THIS TIME, PLEASE WAIT OPERATION. THE
WARNING MESSAGE WILL BE CLEARED AUTOMATICALLY.

2.3.5 FOCAL SPOT SELECTION INDICATOR

Focal spot size indicator shows currently selected X-ray tube focal spot size. SXG generator series provides
the automatic selection function of focal spot by ‘Maximum Small Focus mA’ parameter of system
configuration.

The following picture shows the focal spot indicator.

2.3.6 HEAT UNIT INDICATOR

SXG generator series provides the indicator of Heat Unit (HU) as shown picture above. The HU data is
displayed to % (percent) unit on screen as shown above.

WHEN THE ANODE HEAT UNIT IS OVER 70%, HU WARNING MESSAGE WILL
BE DISPLAYED ON SCREEN.

IF YOU WANT TO MODIFY THE MAXIMUM SMALL FOCUS MA PARAMETER


OF SYSTEM SETTING, PLEASE CONTACT TO TECHNICIAN OR SERVICE
ENGINEER.

THE RANGE OF X-RAY EXPOSURE TIME CONDITION IS FROM 1 MILLI-


SECOND TO 10 SECONDS.

2.3.8 WARNING INDICATOR AND MESSAGE

The SXG generator series provides warning indicator and messages that it is issued to warn the operator of
generator of troubles which is not serious issues. When the warning issue is occurred, the generator will
show the warning message on screen and blinked the warning indicator located on left-top side of console
screen. This warning indicator and message will be disappeared after 5 seconds automatically.

WHEN THE WARNING MESSAGES WILL BE CLEARED AUTOMATICALLY


WITHOUT PRESSING THE ‘RESET’ BUTTON.

2.3.9 ERROR INDICATOR AND MESSAGE

The SXG generator series provides an error indicator and messages with and error sound. When and error is
occurred, the generator will show an error message on screen, and will blink an error indicator located on
left-top side of console screen.

In order to clear an error status, press the ‘RESET’ button, then an error status may be cleared. If an error
status is not cleared with the ‘RESET’ button, please stop the operation, and contact to technician or
service engineer.

IF AN ERROR STATUS IS NOT CLEARED WITH RESET BUTTON, STOP THE


OPERATION AND CONTACT TO TECHNICIAN OR SERVICE ENGINEER.

2.5.1 AEC SUPPORT

The SXG generator series provides the interface for AEC function as an option. So, if a customer wants to
use this AEC function with SXG generator, a customer must request the addition of AEC function. If the AEC
feature is not applied to SXG generator, AEC function will not operate normally on system.

THE AEC FUNTION OF SXG GENERATOR IN ORDER TO OPERATE


NORMALLY, AEC INTERFACE HARDWARE MUST BE INSTALLED ON SXG
GENERATOR.

2.5.2 AEC ASSIGNMENT

The SXG generator series provides the interface for AEC function. In order to enable the AEC function on
SXG generator, it must be assigned the AEC setting in the System Setting of SXG generator.

The following picture shows the screen of AEC setting in System Setting.

Basically, SXG generator series provides two AEC Assignment option such as AEC1 and AEC2. And each AEC
can be assigned to each Bucky. And when the specified Bucky is selected, if AEC assignment is enabled, AEC
feature of SXG generator will be shown on screen.

If AEC function is not assigned to any Bucky, AEC feature will not be shown on the screen. In this case, the
operator can not activate the AEC funciton on the system.

IF AEC FEATURE DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE SCREEN, PLEASE FIRST


CHECK THE AEC ASSIGNMENT OF SYSTEM SETTING.

2.5.4 AEC SPEED CONTROL

The following screen shows the AEC speed control buttons.

Generally, AEC Screen Speed or Sensitivity has term used to describe how much light is obtained from a
given x-ray exposure. The AEC Speed options of SXG generator series are as follows.

 SLOW
 MEDIUM
 FAST

AEC Speed can be activated only one of setting with SXG generator series. It means that the option of AEC
Speed can not be selected to duplicate.

INCREASES IN TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN


AEC SPEED, ESPECIALLY IN HOT CLIMATES.

2.5.5 AEC FIELD SELECTION

The following screen shows the AEC Field control buttons.

AEC Field selection is possible to select multiple. However, at least one AEC filed must be enabled. The AEC
Field options of SXG generator series are as follows.

 RIGHT FIELD

When the operator has set the AEC filed, if the selected AEC filed is already activated, the selected AEC
field is turned off.

The AEC Density format of SXG generator series provides to have nine settings which may be labeled -4, -3,
-2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3 and +4. The AEC Density control of SXG generator series is formatted in steps of 16
percent.

THE AEC DENSITY CONTROL IS ACTIVATED ONLY IN AEC MODE.

THE AEC DENSITY CONTROL OF SXG GENERATOR SERIES IS FORMATTED


IN STEPS OF 16 PERCENT.

2.6 APR CONTROL

The SXG generator series provides the APR (Anatomical program) feature, and it will support the setting of
optimal X-ray parameters based on various configurations.

The SXG APR condition contains the following parameters.

5) AEC Condition ( optional only )

2.6.1 APR SELECTION

The SXG generator series provides the user-friendly interface for APR feature. The following picture shows
the screen which the APR selection is activated on screen.

To load the APR condition, the operator must select the APR technique first. When the operator want to
load the APR condition, press the ‘APR Selection Button’ as shown picture below, then the following APR

modified to suit the need of site. The SXG generator package includes the APR editing software which it
support to modify the APR condition by operator needs.

CONDITION BASED ON VARIOUS CONFIGURATIONS.

THE AEC CONDITION AND PARAMETERS ARE SUPPORTED ONLY

support the synchronization between the Bucky. About this feature, please refer the ‘SXG Service Manual’.

4.3 FILAMENT CURRENT

SXG generator series provides the diagnosis function for filament current level. And this function support
real-time feedback level on screen after X-ray is exposed. Operators and service engineer can easily analyze
the state of filament.

The following picture shows the control buttons of filament current diagnosis mode.

To execute the diagnosis of filament current, perform the following procedures.

1) Check mA condition. If it is not 10[mA], change the condition to 10[mA] by mA up/down button.
2) Press the ‘Start’ button.
3) When the ‘Start’ button is shown again, press the ‘Feedback Graph’ button.
4) After check the ‘Feedback Current Graph’, press the ‘Close’ button.
5) Change the condition to 320[mA] by mA up/down button.

PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE IN SITE, BECAUSE KV CALIBRATION DATA IS FACTORY
ADJUSTED ALREADY BEFORE SHIPMENT.

THE DATA OF KV FACTOR IS ONL RELATED TO THE GENERATOR PERFORMANCE.

To execute the kV Calibration in automatic mode, perform the following procedures.

1) Press the ‘AUTO’ button as shown picture below.

5.1.2 KV CALIBRATION IN MANUAL MODE

When operator performs the kV Calibration, sometimes there is a case, all data is not cleared in the
automatic mode. In this case, operator can try to perform the calibration manually in manual calibration
mode.

To execute the kV Calibration in automatic mode, perform the following procedures.

1) Press the ‘MANUAL’ button as shown picture below.


2) Select the kV step by kV step control button as shown picture below.
3) Press the ‘START’ button.
4) Check the result message.
If the result message is ‘OK’, the current kV step is finished.
If the result message is ‘FAIL’, change the kV offset value, and try again.
5) Press the ‘Close’ button.

SXG generator series provides mV Calibration procedure with user-friendly interface. The user interface of

AND OTHER CONNECTION, PLEASE TRY TO PERFORM THE MA CALIBRATION

In mA calibration, the calibration is done for the mA level corresponding to the set mA value to each kV
step. The kV output is guaranteed by the circuit design of the generator, but mA output depends upon the
X-ray tube specification and conditions.

SXG generator series provides the mA calibration in three different procedures.

1) Full-Automatic mA Calibration Procedure


2) Semi-Automatic mA Calibration Procedure
3) Manual mA Calibration Procedure

Before perform the mA calibration, please see the notification below, and please review enough.

BEFORE THE MA CALIBRATION, PERFORM THE FULL-AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION


FIRST. FULL-AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION PERFORMS CALIBRATION FOR THE PRESET
CALIBRATION STEPS CORRESPONDING TO THE PRESET MAXIMUM OUTPUT
AUTOMATICALLY

EACH TIME THAT MA CALIBRATION IS ACTIVATED IN EACH CALIBRATIO STEP, THE


PREVIOUS CALIBRATION DATA IS UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY.

BEFORE PERFORM THE MA CALIBRATION, VERIFY THAT THE CONNECTION


BETWEEN GENERATOR AND OTHER COMPONENTS.

WHEN THE FULL-AUTOMATIC SEQUENCE IS RUNNING, CALIBRATION SEQUENCE


CAN BE PAUSED MOMENTARILY BY RELEASING THE X-RAY HAND-SWITCH. PLEASE
DO NOT PRESS THE X-RAY HAND-SWITCH WHILE THE MA CALIBRATION IS
RUNNING.

IF THE OPERATOR HAS TO MODIFY THE MAXIMUM SMALL FOCUS MA IN SYSTEM


SETTING, MA CALIBRATION MUST BE CARRIED OUT AGAIN BECAUSE ALL OF THE
MA CALIBRATION DATA IS INITIALIZED.

AUTOMATIC MA CALIBRATION SEQUENCE IS RUNNING, IN THIS CASE, OPERATOR
MUST STOP THE CALIBRATION, AND NEEDS TO COOL THE HEATING OF TUBE
HOUSING.

IF ANY ABNORMAL STEP IS OCCURRED DURING FULL-AUTOMATIC MA


CALIBRATION, OPERATOR IS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE MANUAL MA
CALIBRATION FOR THE ABNORMAL STEP MANUALLY.

USUALLY ABNORMAL MA CALIBRATION STEP IS OCCURRED WHEN THE LINE


POWER IS INADEQUATE TO SUPPORT THE MAXIMUM POWER RATING OR HIGH MA
STEPS. IN THIS CASE, PLEASE CONTACT THE TECHNICIAN OR SERVICE ENGINEER.

IN HEAVY DUTY OPERATION SUCH AS MA CALIBRATION, IT IS NECESSARY TO


MINIMIZED THE HEAT INPUT TO THE TUBE HOUSING ASSEMBLY CONTRIBUTED BY
THE STATOR POWER TO PREVENT HOUSING OVERHEAT. THE ITERATIVE
ACCELERATIONS OF THE ANODE TO FULL SPEED OVERHEATS THE X-RAY TUBE
STATOR AND THERMAL SWITCH OF TUBE HOUSING ASSEMBLY OPENS WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE RISES ABOVE THE HOUSING RATED VALUE.

5.2.2 SEMI-AUTOMATIC MA CALIBRATION

SXG Generator series provides semi-automatic procedure for mA Calibration. In this mode, the mA step of
specified kV range is performed only.

The following picture shows the interface of mA Calibration in Semi-Automatic mode.

To execute the mA Calibration in semi-automatic mode, perform the following procedures.

1) Press the ‘SEMI’ button.


2) Specify the desired kV range by kV step control buttons.
3) Press the ‘START’ button.
4) Please wait until the sequence is completed.
5) When the sequence is finished, press the ‘Close’ button.

WHEN THE SEMI-AUTOMATIC SEQUENCE IS RUNNING, CALIBRATION SEQUENCE


CAN BE PAUSED MOMENTARILY BY RELEASING THE X-RAY HAND-SWITCH. PLEASE
DO NOT PRESS THE X-RAY HAND-SWITCH WHILE THE MA CALIBRATION SEQUENCE
IS RUNNING.

IF THE LINE POWER TO THE GENERATOR IS NOT SUFFICIENT OR UNDERSTANDED


WIRES ARE USED TO CAUSE THE SHORTAGE OF POWER TO THE GENERATOR,
ACCURATE CALIBRATION MAY NOT BE CARRIED OUT FOR HIGH POWER KV AND
MA STEPS. IN THIS CASE, SLOVE THE PROBLEM FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO
CONTINUE THE CALIBRATION. IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED, PERFORM THE
CALIBRATION FOR ONLY THE POWER RANGE ALLOWED.

IN SEMI-AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION, THE FULL-AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION STEPS


ARE FOLLOWD EXCEPT ONE CAN PERFORM THE CALIBRATION AT EACH STEP
SEPARATELY

5.2.3 MANUAL MA CALIBRATION

SXG Generator series provides manual procedure for mA Calibration. In this mode, the mA step of specified
mA step is performed only.

Normally the manual calibration is needed necessary since Full-Automatic Calibration or Semi-Automatic
Calibration provides enough procedure for generator.

The following picture shows the interface of mA Calibration in Manual mode.

If the specified step for mA Calibration is failed, operator can change the mA offset value manually. To
control the mA offset value, please refer the shown picture above.

IF THERE IS NO SPECIAL ISSUES SINCE FULL-AUTOMATIC OR SEMI-AUTOMATIC


CALIBRATION SEQUENCE, MANUAL CALIBRATION IS NOT NEEDED NORMALLY.

When the X-ray exposure is finished for the specified step, the following information is shown on screen.
Operator and service engineer can obtain the results from this information on screen.

If the operator wishes to verify the feedback current of step, press the ‘GRAPH’ button, and will be shown
the feedback graph as shown picture below.

6. TROUBLESHOOTING

The console of SXG generator series will show the state messages on screen during normal and abnormal
operation. This chapter contains tables of those messages and suggests solution to be taken by service
personnel to correct any malfunctions that may occur.

6.1 GENERAL MESSAGES

If there is a message to be displayed, the SXG generator shows a status message during operation as follows.

When the general message occurs, operators should check the messages carefully. And it shall check the
status of the equipment. If the unexpected message is displayed from the current ongoing situation, the
operator must confirm the information of message.

THE OPERATOR SHOULD ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO THIS MESSAGE ON SCREEN.

The particular actions are not required for warning message, but check the reason of messages.
If there is a message to be displayed, the SXG generator shows a warning message during operation as

7. MAINTENANCE
This chapter provides a recommended the maintenance of the SXG generator series.

In order to guarantee safety of the equipment, it is necessary to set up a maintenance schedule. Additional
information relevant to the mandatory maintenance can be found in the Maintenance Instructions of SXG
generator series.

The responsible organization is responsible for observing a maintenance schedule which must be executed
by qualified technicians who must be able to certify their work.

inspection schedule before damages or errors.

7.2 CLEANING

Clean the external surface using a damp cloth and non-corrosive and non-oil-based detergent and disinfect
it using a non-aggressive medical detergent. Do not spay detergent or disinfectant directly on the
equipment. The tablet located in front of the generator may be cleaned with cotton wool soaked without
surgical alcohol.

TURN OFF THE EQUIPMENT FROM THE SUPPLY MAINS BEFORE CARRING OUT
CLEANING OPERATIONS.

DO NOT SPRAY PRODUCTS DIRECTLY ON THE EQUIPMENT. APPLY THE PRODUCT


ON A CLEAN CLOTH.

ALWAYS USE DISPOSABLE PROTECTIVE COVERS FOR THE APPLIED PARTS.

TO AVOID ANY POTENTIAL HAZARD OR DANGER TO OPERATORS AND PATIENTS,


CONTACT YOUR AUTHORIZED TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU
EXPERIENCE ANDY UNUSUAL OPERATION, MECHANICAL ISSUES, OR EQUIPMENT

APPENDIX A. SXG GENERATOR MAS TABLE

The following table shows the relationship of mAs condition between the exposure timer and mA conditions
on the SXG generator series.

The X-ray exposure table of the SXG generator may be photocopied as required and placed in a specified
location. This information will help the operator to estimate the X-ray exposure condition more easily.

THE VALUES OF KV AND MA IS DEPENDED ON THE OUTPUT RATIING OF THE SXG


GENERATOR.

THE SELECTIONS OF MA AND TIME ARE DEPENDED ON THE TUBE RATING.

FOR CERTAIN TUBES, SOME MA AND TIME SELECTIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT
HIGHER KV SELECTIONS.

THE MAS VALUES CAN BE ADDED BY MAXIMUM MAS SETTING UP BY THE TUBE
SPECIFICATIONS.
