3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Unless otherwise indicated during the execution of the contract, the Contractor and Supplier
shall use the forces and moments from this specification as the basis for the design of the
equipment nozzles
Special consideration shall be taken for accidental condition not anticipated in this
specification, such as blast or earthquake. (e.g.: 05490.MAT.MEC.SDS)
However, if the operating piping loads cannot comply with the values given in this report, the
actual piping loads shall be submitted to the equipment Vendor/Supplier for further
calculation check and acceptance.
Within the warranty period for the equipments, the Company reserve the right to ask for
further check of the nozzle loads. To perform such activities no extra costs will be exposed
by the Vendor/Supplier.
When costs arise for official documentation revision to be presented to third parties or Local
authority then a case by case discussion in between the Company and the Vendor/Supplier
will define the issue. Extra cost will be recognised in case a deeper investigation, outside the
original scope of work, is deemed necessary (e.g.: transition for calculation by formula to
Finite Element Analysis)

4. STATIC EQUIPMENT

4.1 COLUMNS, DRUMS, AND SHELL & TUBE EXCHANGERS

Allowable nozzle loadings for CS vessels such as Columns, Drums, and Shell & Tube
Exchangers, shall be in accordance with Appendix A overleaf unless otherwise specified in
purchase order requisition / vessel data sheets.

Allowable loadings for SS and Non-ferrous alloy vessels shall be 50% of CS values in
Appendix A.

SUPPLIER shall assume each component of the forces and moments as simultaneously
acting.
eni spa 05494.MAT.MEC.SDS
Rev. 0 July 2013
exploration & production division
Sh. 8 of 28

Tabulated loadings act at nozzle/shell interface in addition to design pressure. The

combination of the loads direction to be taken into account shall be the worst case.

The Manufacturer of the equipment shall provide sufficient local reinforcement if and where
necessary to maintain local stresses within the limits specified by the design code. For this
purpose, stresses shall be calculated for applied nozzle loads plus intensified pressure
stresses at the nozzle in accordance with the relevant code. Note that reinforcements may
be necessary for thin wall equipments.

The External loads imposed by piping on static equipment should be below the allowable
loads supplied by the Vendor/Supplier.
Piping loads shall be kept within the values given by this section. However, if either the
piping loads or the equipment nozzles cannot comply with the given values then actual
piping loads shall be submitted to the Vendor/Supplier for check and acceptance.
It shall be noted that the piping loads are calculated with nozzles modeled as "anchor" which
is a very conservative approach, mainly for thin vessels.
When allowable loads are exceeded, a new piping stress analysis run, using nozzle
flexibilities as stated in WRC 537 and 297 are to be performed. New loads are to be
submitted to the vessel Vendor/Supplier for acceptance.
When nozzle flexibilities are taken into consideration, stiffness values shall be shared with
the equipment Vendor/Supplier.
Flange leakage check may also lead to an increased flanges rating, this will be specified by
CONTRACTOR on a case by case basis.
Man-ways and hand-holes are not subject to external loads.

4.2 PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER AND COLD BOXES

The allowable loads to be used are those defined in ISO 15547 (API 662) Table 2 "Severe
Service Nozzle Loading", and shall never be less than twice the loads and moments listed in
ISO 15547 (API 662) Table 1 "Standard Service Nozzle Loading".

4.3 AIR COOLED EXCHANGERS

The design of fixed or floating header, the design of the connections of fixed headers to side
frames, and the design of other support members shall ensure that the simultaneous
application sum of all nozzle loadings on a single header will cause no damage.
Allowable loads and moments acting on air cooled exchanger header nozzles shall be 2.25
times those specified in Table 4, ISO 13706 (API 661) as a minimum. Allowable loads and
moments shall be stated on the SUPPLIER drawings. An higher allowable load factor shall
be considered from SUPPLIER for nozzles of 600# rating and above. Supplier/Vendor shall
indicate values within his bid documentation.

4.4 FIRED HEATERS

Manifolds are to be anchored on structure locally. Allowable loadings on manifold anchors
shall then be as stated for vessel for respective line size.

Where anchoring is considered impractical, due to large vertical deflections of heater, or

heater pipework, then CONTRACTOR must agree with SUPPLIER the amount of deflection
to be incorporated into piping design and associated nozzle loading.

Allowable nozzle loadings shall be stated on SUPPLIER drawings.

4.5 WELDED STORAGE TANKS

Allowable loadings for nozzles in tank shells shall be in accordance with Table 1 below.

Tabulated loadings act at nozzle/shell interface.

Tabulated loadings also apply to roof nozzles except that the radial load becomes a vertical
load. The two shear forces are horizontal and the two moments are related to the
north/south and east/west axis of the nozzles.

5. ROTATING EQUIPMENT

5.1 COMPRESSORS
Centrifugal compressors (API 617)
For centrifugal compressors, the allowable Forces and Moments shall be up to 5 times the
API 617 values.
On a Floating Unit, the calculated piping loads on the compressor nozzles in operating
conditions, including hull girder deflections and accelerations, shall be to 8 times the API
617 values.
In any case, the requirements reported in Chapter 3 (General requirements) are applicable.

Rotary screw compressors (API 619)

Because this type of compressor is generally supplied with heavy silencers which shall be
vertically installed directly on compressor nozzles, Vendor/Supplier shall provide allowable
loads on silencer flanges (at piping connection) instead of at compressor flanges.
Vendor/Supplier should supply a very stiff structure, attached on the compressor base plate,
in order to provide a guide at the top flange of the silencer which will reduce the transferred
loads on the compressor nozzles.
The allowable Forces and Moments shall be up to 4 times the API 619 values.
In any case, the requirements reported in Chapter 3 (General requirements) are applicable.

Reciprocating Compressors (API 618)

Allowable loads and moments acting on process nozzles of a reciprocating compressor shall
be as defined in the Table 2 hereafter.
Table 2

Rating Nozzle Size Loads and moments

150 # 2’’ to 8’’ 3 times API 618 values
300 # 10’’ to 20’’ 5 times API 618 values

(1) Values above mentioned come from good engineering practice. However, to be referred
to Chapter 3 of this specification (General requirements).

Liquid turbine expander

Allowable loads and moments acting on nozzles of liquid turbine expander shall be agreed
between Vendor/Supplier and CONTRACTOR. Piping load will be supplied by the
CONTRACTOR.

5.2 PUMPS
API 610 Pumps
The allowable Forces and Moments acting on API 610 pumps shall conform to API 610
code.
For FPSO installations allowable loads and moments acting on suction and discharge pump
process nozzles shall be, as a minimum, 4 times the values defined in the code API 610.
For pumps nozzles having diameter above 16” (DN400), Vendor/Supplier shall comply with
values defined in the extended tables in Appendix B, unless deviation to this specification
was clearly agreed before order.
In any case, the requirements reported in Chapter 3 (General requirements) are applicable.

ISO Pumps
The allowable Forces and Moments acting on ISO pumps shall conform to the relevant ISO
codes.
In case there will be no applicable standard, the allowable Forces and Moments acting on
ISO pumps shall meet, at a minimum, the criteria of API 610 and verification shall be
obtained from the Vendor/Supplier.

6. PACKAGED UNITS
Allowable loads at packaged units tie in points (flange face or anchor) are those defined in
para. No.4.1 of this specification for static equipment nozzles.
Vendor/Supplier shall ensure that the loads and moments defined in relevant section can be
tolerated on the equipment process nozzles which are piped directly from the terminal (and
on equipment anchor).
Piping package tie-ins are generally anchored, and loads from external pipe shall respect
the allowable loads defined in para. No.4.1. When anchoring the tie-in is unfeasible, or if
CONTRACTOR requires to benefit of the potential flexibility existing inside the package, the
Vendor/Supplier shall specify and agree with CONTRACTOR the movements at the tie-ins
(and vice-versa). He shall apply allowable nozzle loading given in relevant section of the
specification at the tie-ins when performing his own stress analysis.
Except otherwise indicated, the loading requirement is not mandatory for equipment nozzles
within the package which are piped to other nozzles in the same unit, but it is recommended
to use allowable loads as a good way to proceed for package engineering.
However, if either the piping loads or the equipment nozzles or equipment package tie-ins
can not comply with the values given by the specification, actual piping loads shall be
submitted to the Vendor/Supplier for an evaluation for nozzle / tie-in load acceptance.
Piping stress analysis calculations could be required for pipes inside a package equipment.
In this case, stress analysis reports shall be issued by Vendor/Supplier and checked by
CONTRACTOR.
