the provided google form link available in the google classroom.
(a) Find the equation of an amplitude modulated signal along with upper sideband and [5]
lower sideband.
Also, illustrate the frequency spectrum of an amplitude modulated signal with both
sidebands.
(b) Briefly explain the frequency modulation scheme and compare the narrowband FM [7.5]
and wideband FM.
The spectrum of the FM signal is not band-limited—justify the statements with
necessary equations.
(b) Explain the step-by-step procedures of multiplexing and de-multiplexing of the [7.5]
Direct Sequence-Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) spread spectrum
technique considering 4 stations with the chip codes 0101, 1010, 0110 and 1111.
Also consider that stations 1 and 2 are sending data bit 1 and channel 3 is sending
data bit 0 and station 4 is silent.
(b) Find the average probability of error of a BFSK signal and compare it’s performance [5]
with BPSK and BASK with necessary graphs.

PART B
The answer script (one single pdf file) of this part (Part B) must be uploaded at designated location in
the provided google form link available in the google classroom.
(a) What is Frequency Reuse? Discuss the salient features of using Frequency Reuse. [7.5]
For a set of co-channel cells in the first tier with same distance from mobile as shown
below, If the co-channel interference ratio S/I is 30 dB and propagation path loss is 3 < γ
< 5 dB, then
i) Compute the Reuse ratio, Cluster size and Reuse factor.
For the above problem, if 10 such clusters are replicated in the cellular system and 8
channels are allocated for each cell of 3 km radius, then compute the following:
(b) For the AM signal with m(t) as shown in the following figure and μ = 0.7: [5]
i) Find the amplitude and power of the carrier.
ii) Find the sideband power and the power efficiency η.
iii) Determine power efficiency η and the percentage of the total power carried by the
sidebands of the AM wave when μ=0.5.
(a) An angle-modulated signal with carrier frequency 𝜔𝑐 = 2𝜋 𝑋 105 is described by the [6.5]
equation 𝜙𝐹𝑀 (𝑡) = 10 cos(𝜔𝑐 𝑡 + 5 sin 3000 𝑡 + 10 sin 2000𝜋𝑡)
(b) Compute the number of symbols in a signaling interval and the number of bits per symbol [4]
for BPSK, QPSK and 8-PSK and show the comparison of the methods using the
constellation diagram.
Also compute the baud rate for a 64000 bps 256-QAM signal.
(a) If an antenna is tuned to 400 MHz and provides a VSWR bandwidth of 5%, then [5]
i) Compute the highest and lowest frequency of in the band.
ii) Compute the Reflection coefficient 𝜌 if the incident power is 3 mw and the reflected
power is 0.25 mw
iii) Also compute the value of VSWR
(b) For a Digital telephony system, the voice signal is band-limited to 4 KHz. This signal is [7.5]
sampled, quantized, and binary coded to obtain a PCM signal.
i) Determine the sampling rate if the signal is sampled at the Nyquist rate.
ii) If the samples are quantized into 1024 levels, determine the number of binary pulses
required to encode each sample.
iii) Determine the binary pulse rate (bits per second) of the binary-coded PCM signal.
iv) If 32 such binary-coded PCM signal are time division multiplexed, compute the
minimum bandwidth required to transmit this signal.
v) If the above voice signal of 4 KHz is transmitted using a binary companded PCM
with μ = 100, compare the case of quantization level, L = 64 with the case of L = 256
from the point of view of transmission bandwidth and the output SNR.
