VCM ( VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE ) [86132]

This control unit is interfaced with other on-board electronic systems through the CAN lines:

• ECB - Engine Control Bus ;

• VDB - Vehicle Data Bus ;
• EDB - External data Bus .

VCM main functions

• Driveability: managing the accelerator pedal and generating torque requests via CAN towards the engine, accord-
ing to the driveability maps, requested torque = f (Engine Revs, Accelerator Pedal Position).
• Managing torque and engine speed requests from external systems (brakes, transmission, bodybuilders, etc.) for
engine during braking, gear changing, PTO operations. The VCM determines the request with the highest priority
and transmits the corresponding torque or engine speed request to the engine via CAN .
• Speed limiter (main, programmable and secondary). The VCM determines the type of torque request for engine
and ensures that active speed limits are not exceeded.
• Cruise Control: The VCM governs vehicle speed to match the cruise speed set by adjusting the torque request
sent by CAN to the engine (torque control or limitation). It does so through engine brake and retarder activation
requests and by incorporating the control functions of engagement and disengagement.
• Engine start/stop control logic and relative safety devices; managing requests from the cab, engine compartment,
bodybuilder connector or Power take off (PTO mode). Managing requests to regulate engine speed via CAN in
line with conditions relating to PTO modes (0) , (1) , (2) , (3) (pre-programmed) with actuation by the engine.
• Low Idle (rpm) adjustment logic and High Idle dynamic management with requests relating to the engine via CAN .
The VCM manages requests to adjust engine speed via CAN with actuation by the engine.
• Engine Brake activation logic: managing driver's requests and ignoring requests from external systems (brakes,
transmission, bodybuilders, etc.). Transmitting values via CAN and actuation by the engine.
• Mechanical gearboxes.
• EM interface: manages driver's requests and requests from external systems.

Vehicle safety system

• Immobilizer.

Communication on CAN bus

• Point-to-Point communication from vehicle BUS to engine and vice versa.
• Generation of CAN messages on external bus for connection dedicated to Fleet Management equipment according
to Bus- FMS.
• Interface for connecting on board systems to diagnosis Tester via CAN .
