Disaster preparedness
The webinar held by Rizal Technological University-Center for National Service
Training Program entitled Disaster Preparedness Orientation for the students and teachers in Rizal Technological University. The resource speaker who is Mr. Aldo R. Mayor the MMDA Public Safety Officer who informed us about the different hazard and disasters that may occur and how are we going to be prepared for this. In this webinar the topic is about nature presents itself in a variety of mild and strong ways. We can observe how it may be peaceful at times and then turn aggressive at others. Everyone admires the peaceful side, but when the fierce side emerges, panic ensues. Certain aspects of nature are beyond our control since humans cannot control everything. For the introduction in the webinar, our resource speaker Mr. Aldo R. Mayor introduce the disaster and hazards to every student and teachers. Looking at historical disasters, we may easily conclude that nature is not only to blame for their existence. They occur for a variety of causes. This is why we divided them into various types. The first category is natural disasters, which are produced by natural processes. They are the most dangerous natural disasters, causing loss of life and harm to the environment. Earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, storms, and other natural calamities are among the deadliest. In addition, there are man-made disasters. They are the result of technological flaws or damage. Fires, nuclear explosions or radiations, oil spills, vehicle accidents, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters are samples. Nature has little or no say in these kinds of disasters. The next topic discussed in the webinar is earthquakes. An earthquake represents a tremor on the surface of the earth. It's a sudden tremor on the surface of the earth. Earthquakes are undoubtedly a horrifying natural tragedy. Earthquakes can also cause considerable damage to people and property. Some earthquakes are minor and are not detected. On the other hand, some earthquakes are large and severe. In nature, large earthquakes are usually always destructive. Most importantly, the occurrence of an earthquake is the most unexpected. That makes them so harmful. There are three types of earthquakes. A structural earthquake caused by the movement of dozens of plates. The second is a volcanic earthquake, which is related to volcanic activity. The third and last type of volcanic earthquakes are artificial earthquakes, or earthquakes that are usually minor and caused by human activity. Then the effects of earthquake, well we don’t know when and how will d\this earthquake occur but then we have to know some of the information about it so that we will be ready and prepared once it occurs suddenly. Severe damage to infrastructure facilities is one of the main effects that the earthquake brings. Landslides are another big Earthquake effect. Slope instability causes landslides. This slope instability occurs as a result of an earthquake. Soil liquefaction can occur as a result of this also. This occurs when granular material that has been soaked with water loses its strength. As a result, it changes from a solid to a liquid. As the outcome, solid structures sink into liquid deposits. Earthquakes can cause fires. This occurs as a result of the earthquake damaging the electricity and gas lines. Above all, once a fire starts, it is incredibly difficult to stop. Tsunamis can also be caused by earthquakes. Tsunamis are large-scale sea waves. The quick or abrupt movement of huge amounts of water causes these sea waves. This is due to an earthquake in the sea. Tsunamis, in particular, may move at speeds ranging from 600 to 800 kilometers per hour. When these tsunamis strike the seacoast, they may cause problems. To sum up, an Earthquake is a massive and terrible natural phenomenon. It demonstrates humanity's weakness in the face of nature. It is a fantastic event that has taken everyone by surprise. Above all, an earthquake only lasts a few seconds yet can-do incredible destruction. Disaster Awareness and Preparation is one way on how are we going to reduce the death rates and suffering of human when something natural or human made disaster occurs but it needs a lot of preparation. The best thing to do is that people should be aware and prepared definitely for them to focus and know what are the right things to do though we cannot easily say that that why being educated and knowledgeable about the different types of hazards and disaster and some of the basic thing that we need to learn in order to survive.
