6.2 Process of Concrete repair

The types of repairs that will be covered by this document are the following:

- Defect without exposed reinforcement

These defects concern segregation in the concrete surface with > 10mm depth and with
exposed reinforcement

- Defects with exposed reinforcement:

These defects concern segregation and in the concrete surface with exposed
reinforcement.

6.3 Defects without exposed reinforcement

The method of repair of these defects is as follows:

- When the area to be repaired exceeds the surface by 15 cmx15 cm the surface will
be sawcut to a depth of at least 10 mm. for the surface less than 15cm x 15 cm the
sawcut/grinder cannot be used.
- Removal of damaged concrete and cleaning of the concrete surface with a brush;
The substrate shall be free from dust, loose material, surface contamination and
material which reduce the bond or prevent suction or wetting by repair material.
- The removal of concrete should be kept to a minimum.
- Moistening of the areas to be repaired
- Applying the bonding agent with material SIKALATEX or NITOBOND LATEX.
- Repairing concrete segregations with mortar type R4 repair mortar in accordance
with standard EN 1504-3 and in accordance with the procedure in the repair product
data sheet.
- Repair mortar will be worked into the prepared substrate and will be compacted
without inclusion of entrapped air pockets and in such a way that the required
strength is achieved.
- The repair mortar will be applied layer by layer not exceeding 50 mm for the vertical
surface and it can be increased to 100 mm for horizontal application; the layer
thickness and the time between application will be respected.
- After application the finishing and curing will be carried out.

6.4 Defects with exposed reinforcement

The method of repair of these defects is as follows:

- Mark out the area to be repaired on the concrete with a marker.
- When the area to be repaired exceeds the surface by 15 cmx15 cm the surface will
be sawcut to a depth of at least 10 mm. for the surface less than 15cm x 15 cm the

- For reinforcement where half the cross-section has been exposed after concrete
removal, the whole circumference of the exposed reinforcement shall be uniformly
cleaned, except when structural consideration prevents it.
- Moistening of the areas to be repaired
- Applying the bonding agent SIKALATEX or NITOBOND LATEX.
- Repairing concrete segregations with mortar type R4 repair mortar in accordance
with standard EN 1504-3 and in accordance with the procedure in the repair product
data sheet.
- Repair mortar will be worked into the prepared substrate and will be compacted
without inclusion of entrapped air pockets and in such a way that the required
strength is achieved and the reinforcement is protected against corrosion.
- The repair mortar will be applied layer by layer not exceeding 40 mm for the vertical
surface and it can be increased to 100 mm for horizontal application; the layer
thickness and the time between application will be respected.
