The Perpetual Rosary Association is also known as "Guardias de
Honor de Maria" is a religious organization which is pledge to
praise and invoke unceasingly the Mother of God and her Divine
Son through the continuous praying of the Holy Rosary by its
members. It associates especially aim to obtain from Jesus through
the powerful intercession of his Blessed Mother as well as ours; the
conversion of sinners; a happy death for the dying; and the joys of
heaven for the souls in purgatory.
The 24 hours of the day are distributed among its members. So one
who decides to become a member promises to dedicate to Our Lady
of the Rosary one hour every month - on a definite hour. The hour
is to be spent praying and meditating upon the twenty mysteries of
the Holy Rosary. This hour is called the "Guard Hour". Besides the
complete rosary, other prayers that one may choose in honor of the
Blessed Mother, may be said within this hour.

The Guard Hour of each associate may be fulfilled anywhere; at
home, on a journey, etc. - kneeling or seated; although, if possible,
it is better to spent in a church or an oratory.
The obligation of the Perpetual Rosary does not bind under the pain
of sin. If a member fails to perform the hour guard, he merely
forgoes the indulgences that would have gained by performing it.
Conditions of Membership
1. To be a member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. The
Perpetual Rosary Association draws its members from the
confraternity, and the main duty is the praying the rosary
everyday.
2. To be registered in a duly established center of the
Association. The application for membership from is issued
by the Santo Domingo Church - the National Shrine of Our
Lady of the Most Holy Rosary La Naval de Manila.
3. To bind oneself to dedicate one full hour every month during
which the 20 mysteries of the rosary are prayed and meditated
upon. Within the said hour, other prayers to Our Lady may be
said besides the complete Rosary.
Note:
To gain the special indulgences of the association, members should
receive the sacraments on the day on which their Guard Hour
occurs and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.

⁃ Hail Holy Queen for the member who did the Guard Hour
before you
Remember, O most pious Queen of the Blessed Rosary, that never

was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored
your aid, and sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired
with the confidence I come, although unworthy, before your
presence to fulfill this Guard Hour, on behalf of all the other
associates, your faithful devotees, and in their name, I ask of you
that you will obtain the conversion of so many souls now in sin; I
ask that you will obtain for me the grace of a happy death for all
who are dying and who are in this hour to appear before the
Sovereign Judge; I ask that you will obtain eternal rest for the souls
in Purgatory.
All these graces I ask you to obtain, particularly for the members of
my family, for my relatives, friends, acquaintances, and for all those
persons who are or have been living in this locality. And now,
Mother of mine, that I am to pray the hour of your Blessed Rosary,
grant that I may be worthy of the glorious name I bear - Guard of
your Honor. Remove from me indifference, sloth and forgetfulness,
and make me diligent and fervent in all the acts that I propose to do

in your honor. Obtain for me the grace of ever remembering your
presence while my heart and my lips pronounce your praises in
union with those who at this hour are engaged in this holy practice,
so that, with them, I may meditate and contemplate such August
and profound mysteries and may obtain the most abundant fruit for
your honor and the salvation of my soul. Amen.

OPENING PRAYERS
Leader: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

People: Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of
your womb Jesus.

THE APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven;

O most serene Lady, Mother of Mercy, visited by the Angel,

angels, by the shepherds, by the kings as Mother of Jesus, praised
by the Holy Patriarchs and Prophets, most diligent in offering to
God the sacrifice of your devotion, most loving in the search and
happiest in the finding of the loved treasure of your heart, we offer
you in all the humility, this garland of spiritual roses in memory of
the Joyful mysteries of the Rosary. We beseech you to obtain for us
from your Son the gift of conceiving Him in our souls by means of
fervent contrition for our sins; we beseech you to pray that we may
be so moved by the inspirations of grace that He may be born of us

OFFERING OF THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
O Mary, Most holy mother of Good Counsel, you who intervened

for the young couple when they ran out of wine to free the groom
from embarrassment, you who urged the servants to do what Jesus
commanded, you who give this maternal counsel to the Church of
every age "Do whatever he tells you". This counsel which is a
fitting introduction to the words and signs of Christ's public
ministry, we offer along with the Mysteries of Light that we may
obtain the graces of following your counsel.

OFFERING OF THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
O Most Pious Lady! Wounded by the sword of sorrow in the

Passion of your beloved Son, afflicted in His Passion, hurt with His
being scourged, pained because of His Crown of thorns, tearful in
His carrying of the Cross, alone and unconsoled in His death. We
offer you this bouquet of red lilies stained with the blood of this
Loving Lamb, by whose love we beseech you to obtain for us
fervor in prayer, humility in grief, courage in afflictions,
perseverance in virtue, charity and grace in death and the ineffable
consolation of your assistance and that of your Son for the devotees
of the Rosary who in this hour are in the horrible moments of
agony. Amen.

Guards of Honor, filled with consolation in the Resurrection of your

enriched with gifts by the Descent of the Holy Spirit, triumphant
and beautiful in your Assumption to the Heavens and praised and
proclaimed Queen in your Coronation, we offer you most humbly
this part of the Rosary for all the living and dead members of the
Confraternity so that you may free the latter from the vigorous
pains of Purgatory, and for the former obtain the grace of

OFFERING OF THE ROSARY
O My God, I offer this hour of guard of the Rosary as Guardia de

Honor de Maria, in union with the prayers and merits of Jesus
Christ, His Holy Virgin Mary and all the Angels and Saints.
We offer each hour to obtain all the graces and blessings we need
of, for our Holy Father, the Pope, the Holy Mother Church, our
bishop, our priest, our clergy, our families, relatives and
benefactors, the conversion of sinners, the souls in purgatory, the
perseverance of the just, the sick, sorrowful and afflicted, those in
their last agony and everyone who has been recommended to our
prayers.
We beseech thee, O heavenly Father, through the merits of Jesus

Christ and His Immaculate Mother, to grant us the true spirit of our
state in life and the grace of a happy death. Amen.
FINAL PRAYER
I give you thanks, Queen of the Blessed Rosary, for having

admitted me into the ranks of your Guard of Honor and granted me
the favor of serving you in this hour which is so dear to me. Forgive
me the faults of distractions I have had on this holy practice and
amiably listen to my petitions, and joining them to your efficacious
merits, present them before the most holy heart of your Divine a
Son, for thus they would favorable be disposed of and obtain
perseverance for the just, mercy and quick relief for the afflicted
souls in Purgatory, which is my heart's greatest desire.

And before I part from you, O Loving Moving, give me your
blessing that I may be faithful in serving you, constant in loving
you, solicitous in avoiding the occasions to offend you, and diligent
in directing towards your honor and the glory of your most Holy
Son all my affections, until I have the joy of serving You again,
keeping once more the Guard Hour and if here, on earth, they be not
granted me, may they be so in heaven amidst the choir of Angels,
where I expect to rejoice in your most loving presence and in the
tenderness of your Immaculate Heart forever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE HOUR OF GUARD
Hail Holy Queen of the Blessed Rosary, I prostrate myself humbly

before your altar and express to you my unbounded gratitude for all
the benefits you bestowed on this your loyal servant. Vouchsafe, I
beseech you, to accept this my hour of guard and hearken to me as I
entreat you in union with all your devotees who at this moment are
rendering you their Hour of Guard to obtain mercy for sinners,
assistance and help for the dying, for the poor souls in Purgatory,
quick relief and for the just perseverance in their Justice. I trust with
a firm confidence that you will listen to our prayers.
I join my praise and supplication to the numberless souls, who, day

and night, unceasingly invoke you with tearful eyes and sorrowful
hearts, saying the beads of your Rosary. Oh! The most merciful of
all mothers. Dry up so many tears, mitigate so many sorrows, grant
through your powerful intercession, that this frightful deluge of
hatred be brought to an end.

Send to us from heaven the longed for dove carrying the palm of
victory of the Holy Church and the reign of peace in the charity of
Christ; while we your children, United together with one heart and
full of gratitude, acclaim you in this exile, hoping for the happy day
of our glorious arrival at the gates of our true motherland, where it
will be given to us to sing our triumphal song: “Praise and Glory to
the Queen of the Rosary forever and ever.” Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH AFTER THE ROSARY
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and

having implored the help of your most holy Spouse, we confidently
invoke your patronage also. Through that charity which bound you
to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal
love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you
graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has
purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us
in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen

children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us
every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most
mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our
struggle with the power of darkness.
As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now
protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from
all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection,
so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to
live piously, to die in holiness, and to obtain eternal happiness in

Alalahanin mo, O lubhang maawaing Reyna ng Kasantusantuhang

Rosaryo na kailanma'y hindi narinig na may lumapit sa iyo na
napasaklolo, o humihingi ng iyong tulong, na di mo kinawaan. Kya
sa pananalig kong ito, ay lumapit ako sa kamahalan mo at dumulog,
bagaman wala akong karapatang humarap sa iyo upang ganapin ko
itong oras ng pagbabantay, sa ngalan ng tanang mga kasapi ng
iyong kasantu-santuhang Rosaryo, at sa ngalan ng lahat ay

hinihiling ko sa iyo sa pagbabalik-loob sa Panginoong Diyos at
anggtunay na pagsisisi ng mga makasalanan, at ang grasya na
huwag na akong muling magkasala. Ipagkaloob mo po ang isang

Tagapagtaguyod ng iyong karangalan. Ilayo mo po sa aking loob
ang kalamigan, katamara't pagkalimot, at papagningasin mo ang
aking puso sa paglilingkod sa iyo. Iwinawaksi ko buhat sa mga
sandaling ito ang anumang kalibangang sadya ng loob na darating
sa akin hangga't ako'y nagdarasal ng Santo Rosaryo Ipagkaloob mo
po naman sa akin ang grasya na sa aking pagdarasal ay walang
hahanapin ang aking puso kundi ikaw lamang at maging dapat
akong makiisa sa tanang nagsisipagpuri aat nagmamakaawa sa oras
na ito. Hayaan mong sambitin ko nang mahusay ang panalanging
nagupuri sa iyo, pagnilayan ang mga kagalang-galang at kalalim-
lalimang misteryosong nilalaman ng Santo Rosaryo at
pakinabangan naman ang masaganang bungang sukat ikabusog at

Sumasampalataya ako sa Diyos Amang makapangyarihan sa lahat,

na may gawa ng langit at lupa. Sumasampalataya naman ako kay
Hesukristo, iisang Anak ng Diyos, Panginoon nating lahat.
Nagkatawang-tao Siya lalang ng Espiritu Santo; ipinanganak ni
Santa Mariang Birhen. Pinagpakasakit ni Ponsio Pilato; ipinako sa
krus, namatay at inilibing. Nanaog sa mga impiyerno; nang may
ikatlong araw nabuhay na mag-uli. Umakyat sa langit; naluluklok sa

Leader: Mary set out at the time and went quickly as she could into
the hill country to a town in Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house
and greeted Elizabeth: Now it happened that as soon as Elizabeth
heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth
was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, “Of all
women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your
womb. Why should I be honored with a visit from the mother of my
Lord? Look, the moment your greeting reached ears, the child in
my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the
promise made by the Lord would be fulfilled. “ (Lk. 1:39-45)

People: Your visit to your cousin Elizabeth has been a cause of
rejoicing for her. You were indeed a true messenger of the Good
News because you can truly reveal to the people around you the
power and love of God. May I also be able to bring the Good News
to the people in my midst especially to the members of my family
and to those people dear to me. May I always remember that love
grows its roots at home. And if I desire to be an effective messenger
of the Good News, it is in my home where I should begin.

of the law but greatly from the inspiration of your sincere love for
God. It is this love that teaches you that there is no such thing as a
small gift for God as long as it is given with a big heart.
Teach me O Mother Mary to be faithful to God. Teach me to
manifest this faithfulness by offering to Him even the little things I
do. Even through such little things, may the grace of God come to
me to help me offer myself to him completely.

Leader: As the child’s father and mother were wondering at the

things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and
said to Mary his mother, “Look, he is destined for the fall and for
the rise of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is opposed – and
a sword will pierce your soul too – so that the secret thoughts of
many may be laid bare. (Lk. 2:33-35)

People: You were chosen to be the Mother of God. And being the
Mother of God, you were chosen not only share in the glory but
also in the sacrifice which your Son was bound to undertake. Yet all
these, you bore with a humble heart knowing that the taste of glory
is rewarded only to those who have paid the price of great sacrifice.
O Mother Mary, may I always remember that there is nothing in

this world that can surpass the glory of life that is promised by the
Lord. Pray that I may be worthy of it by sharing in his suffering and
to be preserving through it all.

FIFTH DAY
Leader: Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother’s
sister, Mary the wife of Cleofas and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his
mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near her, Jesus
said to His mother, “Woman, this is your son.” Then to the disciple
he said, “This is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took
her into his home. (Jn 19:25-27)

People: At the last hour of your son, you were also present O
Mother Mary so that even at that last moment you might offer him
love and that you might offer yourself too to the Father in union
with the son’s offering of himself. You followed him until the foot
of the cross. Indeed, the cross is the mark of a true Christian. Yet it
is also the cross that makes it so hard to follow the Lord. The cross
against the lure of power. The cross against the lure of riches. The
cross against the lure of worldliness. The cross against the lure of
selfishness.
Help me bear this cross, O Mother Mary. And like you, may I also
unite myself in union with the sacrifice of the Lord, for my
salvation and the salvation of other too.

SIXTH DAY
Leader: In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week,
the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear
of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them,
“Peace be with you.” And after saying this, he showed them his
hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the
Lord and he said to them again, “Peace be with you.” (Jn 20:19-20)

People: The resurrection of the Lord was a Good News not only for
you but also for the apostles and all those people who have kept
their faith in him. In the sight of the whole world, the Lord has
revealed himself in glory – the glory that brings peace.
Pray O Mother Mary that I may have a share in this glory. What
good could passing pleasure bring me if my life is bare of meaning?
What good could come from praises, from riches, from greatness if
I find no direction in life? What would it profit me to have
everything, O Mother Mary, if I remain a slave of sin? This is not
what I seek. What I seek is a new life. A new life where I would
find the peace which the resurrected Lord brings. Pray for me O
Mother Mary. Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

SEVENTH DAY
Leader: So from the Mount of Olives, as it is called, they went back

to Jerusalem, a short distance away, no more than a Sabbath walk;
and when they reached the city, they went to the upper room where
they were staying; there were Peter and John, James and Andrew,
Philip and Thomas, Bartolomew and Matthew, James son of
Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Jude son of James. With one
heart all these joined constantly in prayer, together with some
women including Mary the mother of Jesus. (Act 1:12- 14)

People: You were with the apostles since the early days of the
Church. This is so because you were aware that union with the
Church is an important part of the following of Christ; because you
believed that no one lives nor dies for oneself alone.
O Mother Mary, I am a part of the Church, but how do I give

witness to it? Do I see myself the enthusiasm and joy whenever I
join the celebration of the sacraments or whenever I engage myself
in prayer? Do I see in myself the concern for other people and the
effort to be one with them in their sorrow and joy like a true and
compassionate Christian?
Help me be aware O Mother Mary of my responsibilities and grant

me the inspiration to perform all these for the good of the Church
whose Mother and Intercessor you are.

Leader: How blessed are the poor in spirit, the kingdom of heaven
is theirs. Blessed are the gentle: they shall have the earth as
inheritance. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
uprightness: they shall have their fill. Blessed are the pure in heart:
they shall see God. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be
great in heaven. (Mt. 5:3-4,6,8,12)

People: Your being the mother of God has been a great blessings
for you though it is also what brought you to a great trial. Yet you
did not mind whatever difficulties you might suffer, whatever
“sword may pierce your soul” because you believed that at the end
of all these waits the reward that God has kept in store for all those
who enjoyed His favor.
And who else should be first to be called blessed but you O Mother
Mary who was the first to obey the will of God, who was the first to
follow the Lord and who was the first to experience the burdens that
come with it. You are the image O Mother Mary of the fulfillment
of the promises of the Lord. May I always keep in my heart these
promises to give me strength during hard times and to give me light
towards the goal I seek.

Leader: My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit

finds joy in God my savior, for he has looked upon his servant in
her lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed. God who is
mighty has done great things for me, holy is his name. (Lk 1:46-49)

People: Like yours, my soul also praises the Lord and my spirit
likewise rejoices because of the great things that the Lord has done
for you. Because of them, you have become our intercessor and
companion in our prayers and praises to the Lord.
Within the nine days of this novena, I have come to reflect on the
great things that may also happen to me if I will but grow in the
likeness of your dedication and love for the Lord. I am aware that
things should not end in this novena. Greater challenges await me
as I continue to pursue the journey of life. But now, I have a greater
courage to face them all, because I believe that the Lord always
takes care of his lowly servants like me. And because I believe, that
I have a blessed Mother in you to whom I can always turn to, and a
blessed Mother who shall always pray for me.

that brings us the olive branch of peace. As a token of your
maternal love, you gave to the Catholic world, through your Son
Dominic, the Most Holy Rosary.
Through this devotion, pagans were converted, heretics brought

back the true fold, enemies of the Church vanquished, and Christian
society reformed.
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, we call on you for assistance. You
alone did overcome all heresies in the world. Deliver us now, your
Christian people from the snares of the devil. Great was your love
for this nation for when the enemies of the Catholic religion
threatened to take away our faith, you saved us miraculously
through the battles of La Naval and thus secured for yourself the
title Queen and Mother of the Philippines.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF ROSARY
O Queen of the most Holy Rosary and Our Lady of Victory!

Joyfully do I come before thee on this day, commemorating the
many glorious victories gained through devotion to thy most Holy
Rosary. Thou hast promised that we may obtain all that we ask for
through the Holy Rosary. Filled, therefore with confidence, I cast
myself at thy feet, full of sorrow at the sight of my sins, yet full of
hope at the sight of thy mercy.
The first victory that I beg of thee, is a victory over the first enemy
of my soul—the devil, who, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking
whom he may devour. Thou, who hast crushed his influence and
plots in so many cases, crush, too, his influence in my life, so that
strengthened by thy help, I may resist the fiery darts of the evil one.

The second victory that I beg of thee, is a victory over my second
enemy—the world, of which the devil is prince. Help me to see its
emptiness, to flee its vanities, to resist its allurements, knowing that
"the friendship of this world is the enemy of God. Whosoever
therefore will be a friend of this world, becometh an enemy of
God."
The third victory that I beg of thee, is a victory over my third

enemy—my own self, scarred and weakened by Original Sin. Help
me correct my values so that I may seek first the kingdom of God
and love Him with my whole heart, mind, soul and strength. Plant
in my mind and heart a great appreciation and desire for the
spiritual things in life; and to treasure them above any treasures of
this earth. Assist me in all my temptations; instruct me in all
virtues; help me pay for my past sins; remove me from the broad,
wide road that leads to perdition and guide me along the narrow
path that leads to Heaven.
The fourth victory that I beg of thee, is a victory for Holy Mother
Church over the diseases currently ravaging the Mystical Body of
Christ, namely those of Liberalism, Modernism, Indifferentism,
Secularism, Materialism and that terrible state, which God threatens
to vomit out of His mouth— Lukewarmness (Apoc. 3:16). Such is
the state of the Church, which made thee complain at Fatima that so
many souls go to Hell as there are none who pray and offer
sacrifices for them. Grant that I may not forget these souls and these
diseases in my daily Rosaries, for God has stated that the Rosary is
a remedy for our age, and I am confident of obtaining thy powerful
intercession on their behalf.
The fifth victory that I beg of thee, is a victory over all evil, and the
crown of glory in Heaven, for all my family, relatives, friends and
benefactors; for those entrusted to my care and for those in charge

over me. Obtain for them the graces and helps necessary to
overcome all obstacles to conversion, repentance and salvation.
For this end, do I consecrate to thee, O Queen of the most Holy

O August Queen of Victories, O Sovereign of Heaven and Earth, at

whose name the heavens rejoice and the abyss trembles, O glorious
Queen of the Rosary, we your devoted children, assembled in your
temple of Pompeii, (on this solemn day), pour out the affection of
our heart and with filial confidence expresse our miseries to you.
From the throne of clemency, where you are seated as Queen, turn,
O Mary, your merciful gaze on us, on our families, on Italy, on
Europe, on the world. Have compassion on the sorrows and cares
which embitter our lives. See, O Mother, how many dangers of
body and soul, how many calamities and afflictions press upon us.
O Mother, implore for us the mercy of your divine Son and conquer
with clemency the heart of sinners. They are our brothers and your
children who cause the heart of our sweet Jesus to bleed and who
sadden your most sensitive heart. Show all that you are the Queen
of Peace and of Pardon.
Hail Mary.
It is true that although we are your children we are the first to

crucify Jesus by our sins and to pierce anew your heart. We confess
that we are deserving of severe punishment, but remember that, on
Golgotha, you received with the divine blood, the testament of the
dying Savior, who declared you to be our Mother, the Mother of
sinners.

You then, as our Mother, are our Advocate, our Hope. And we raise
our suppliant hands to you with sighs crying “Mercy!” O good
Mother, have pity on us, on our souls, on our families, our relatives,
our friends, our deceased, especially our enemies, and on so many

loving Son. Today we implore pity for the misguided nations
throughout all Europe, throughout the world, so that they may

You are omnipotent by grace and therefore you can help us. Were
you not willing to help us, since we are ungrateful children and
undeserving of your protection, we would not know to whom to
turn. Your motherly heart would not permit you see us, your

blessed rosary which we see in your hand, inspire confidence in us
that we shall be heard. We confide fully in you, we abandon
ourselves as helpless children into the arms of the most tender of

THE ROSARY CONFRATERNITY
The Rosary Confraternity is a spiritual association of the Catholic

Church, the members of which strive to pray the entire Rosary
during the course of one week. They form a union of hundreds of
thousands of the faithful throughout the world who, along with their
own intentions, include the intentions and needs of all its members.
As the Cure of Ars said: “If anyone has the happiness of being in
the Confraternity of the Rosary, he has in all corners of the world
brothers and sisters who pray for him.”
Or, as Pope Leo XIII stated in his apostolic constitution on the

Confraternity, “whenever a person fulfills his obligation of reciting
the Rosary according to the rule of the Confraternity, he includes in
his intentions all its members, and they in turn render him the same
service many times over” (Ubi Primum, 1).
Those members include the faithful departed, who enrolled during

their lifetime, and who continue to pray for us after death. And so
we know that we are included in the prayers of countless members,
both now and hereafter. Sadly, those who have already died cannot
be enrolled in the Confraternity.
Those who pray the Rosary regularly would do well to enroll in the
Confraternity to gain additional spiritual benefits for each Rosary
they pray.

OBLIGATIONS
Each member strives to pray the twenty mysteries of the Rosary

each week (this does not bind under sin), and must have his/her
name inscribed in the register of the Confraternity. There are no
meetings, and no dues. As we pray, we pray also for the intentions
of all the other members of the Rosary Confraternity worldwide,
living and deceased.
Those who recite only the fifteen traditional mysteries will continue
to share in the benefits of the Rosary Confraternity until some
official source declares the contrary.
The phrase ‘this does not bind under sin’ means that if you do not
fulfill the obligation, it is NOT a sin, not even a venial one. Of
course, you miss out on the graces and blessings that would have
come through your prayers.
BENEFITS
1. The special protection of the Mother of God.

2. A share in the prayer of many hundreds of thousands of
members the world over, even after death.
3. A share in the prayers, Masses and apostolic works of the
entire Order of Preachers.
4. The intercession of the entire heavenly court.
5. Various plenary and partial indulgences.

INDULGENCES
1. For members of the Rosary Confraternity, a plenary

indulgence, under the usual conditions, is granted:
a. on the day of enrollment. (When application is made, a
certificate of membership is sent, indicating the day of
the enrollment.)
b. on the following feast days: Christmas, Easter,
Annunciation, Purification, Assumption, Our Lady of the
Rosary, and Immaculate Conception.
2. For those who pray the Rosary, a plenary indulgence is

granted under the usual conditions, when the Rosary is prayed
in Church, or in a Public Oratory, in a family (family Rosary),
Religious Community, or Pious Association. Otherwise, a
partial indulgence is granted.
3. A partial indulgence is granted to those who use a Rosary

blessed by a priest (see below), even if five decades are not
recited. The indulgence is plenary on the feast of Sts. Peter
and Paul, if the blessing was performed by the pope or a
bishop.
A FEW NOTES ON INDULGENCES
1. An indulgence is the cancellation of temporal punishment due

for sin, when the sin’s guilt has already been pardoned.
2. An indulgence is partial if it frees the Christian partially from

the temporal punishment due for his sins, plenary if it frees
him wholly.

3. Both partial and plenary indulgences can always be applied to
the dead, but only by way of suffrage.
4. Since the Apostolic Constitution of Pope St. Paul VI on

Indulgences, a partial indulgence is no longer expressed in
reference to time, i.e. days or years.
5. A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day, except

by those on the threshold of death.
6. To gain a plenary indulgence the person must perform the

indulgenced act, and satisfy these conditions: Sacramental
Confession, Holy Communion, prayer for the Pope’s
intention, and freedom from all attachment to sin, even venial
sin. If this detachment is not present, or if any of the above
conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence is partial.
ROSARY CONFRATERNITY PRAYER

(To be prayed daily after the Rosary)
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary and Mother of us all, we come to

you for help in our sorrows, trials and necessities. Sin leaves us
weak and helpless but Divine Grace heals and strengthens.
We ask for the grace to love Jesus as you loved Him, to believe as
you believed, to hope as you hoped; we ask to share your purity of
mind and heart. Give us true sorrow for sin and make us love
people as you and Jesus loved them. Obtain for us the gifts of the
Holy Spirit that we may be wise with your wisdom, understand with
your understanding, know with your knowledge, be prudent with
your prudence, be patient with your patience, be courageous with

your fortitude and desire justice ardently for everyone with the all
consuming desire of the Sacred Heart of Jesus your Son.
Open our minds that as we pray the Rosary we will understand the
teachings of the Gospel contained in its mysteries.
We pray especially for the members of the Rosary Confraternity

whom we love. Help them wherever they may be; guide them,
watch over them and make them strong in their trials and suffering.
We are drawn together by a common bond of great charity for you
and for each other; keep us faithful to your Son and to your Rosary
until death.
Intercede for the souls in Purgatory, especially for the members of

the Rosary Confraternity who have died. May they rest in peace.
Finally we ask for grace of final perseverance for ourselves and for
our loved ones that we may all be reunited in heaven forever.
Saint Dominic, you who received so much Grace and Strength from
the Rosary, pray for us.

THE PERPETUAL ROSARY ASSOCIATION
The aim of the Perpetual Rosary is to praise, bless and invoke at all
hours of the day and night, Mary, the Mother of God, our own
Mother, in filial acknowledgement of the duties we have towards
her and the numberless benefits we have towards her and the
numberless benefits we have received and continuously receive
from her bounty; also to ask for all those graces of which we are
always in need, likewise, for those graces needed by the Holy
Church and by our fellowmen.
On your assigned day, go to confession and receive Holy

Communion if possible; or else, prepare yourself with an act of
contrition. Make the intention of gaining the indulgences, and fulfill
your Guard Hour kneeling down or in the best manner possible.
Apply the first part of the Rosary to those who are in the state of
mortal sin; the second, to those who may be dying at that time; the
third, to all the living and the dead associates of the Holy Rosary.
Every Guard of Hour should be a propagator of the devotion of the

Holy Rosary, brining as many persons as possible to enroll in the
Association. He should always carry the rosary with him, praying it
daily; as befits a good Christians.

Its Timeliness
The first characteristic of any work is its timelessness. By virtue,

thereof, it takes root in society, lives a prosperous life and produces
inestimable good. It is not difficult to notice this characteristic of
timeliness in the Perpetual Rosary.
1st – It is a continuous prayer and thence a perpetual reminder to a

world that does not pray;
2nd – It is a fountain of graces with which to regenerate our ailing
society;
3rd – It makes us know and glorify Mary;
4th – It gives the Lady a Guard of Honor, which defends her against
her enemies;
5th – It defends the militant Church, as it has been doing since its
foundation;
6th It alleviates the soul in Purgatory; and,
7th – it causes the spread of the Confraternity of the Rosary, the
practices of which must be followed in order that one be a member
of the Perpetual Rosary.
Requisites of Admission
1. To be a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary and fulfill

its duties, as indicated above. The Perpetual Rosary does not
form a distinct confraternity; it is the Guard of Honor of Mary
in her grand army of the Rosary.
2. To register and send one’s name and the hour chosen to the
Father Director of the Perpetual Rosary.

1. Ability to gain the innumerable indulgences granted by the

Supreme Pontiffs.
2. A special protection of Mary.
3. Communion of prayers with thousands of other associates.
4. A participation, during life and after death, of all the works,
merits and suffrages of the three Orders of St. Dominic
(Priests, Nuns, Lay Tertiaries)
Organization
The Association comprises of a Chaplain or Director of the Center,

Division Heads, Section Chiefs and simple associates. The Director
is named by the Superiors of the Order of St. Dominic, and must be
necessarily a priest of the same Order. He, in turn, may appoint a
President of the Association to act on his behalf. The appointment
of the Division Heads and the Section Chiefs belongs to the
Director. There must be one head for each section.
The Section Chiefs register the simple associates in accordance

with a set of lists, in which are written the residence, street and
number where associates live.
The Division Heads necessarily consists of 31 sections, one for

every day of the month. The Section consists of 24 person one for
each hour of the day beginning t 12 midnight ending af the same
Section must be registered for the same day.

Sunday Division
Inasmuch as many devotees of the Blessed Virgin Mary cannot

belong to the large division of thirty days, due to work, there have
been created special divisions for them, for, thy say, “we also love
Mary and would like to form part of the Guard of Honor”. The
Sunday Divisions comprise the Five Sundays of the month. The
Division Head has under him five section chiefs for the five
Sundays of the month. This Section chiefs selects the associates for
all the hours of his assigned day. When the month has only four
Sundays, they shall fulfill their Guard-Hour on a Feast Day, if there
be any, or lese on the First Saturday of the succeeding months,
according as to how they are instructed by their respective section
chiefs.
This method has been the double advantage of being perfectly

regular and facilitating the sanctifying of Sunday by the members.
Duties of the Director
1. To register in the book of the Confraternity the names of all

the associates who are no members of the Confraternity as yet.
2. To note down in a separate book the names and addresses of
the Division Heads and the Section Chiefs.
3. In the same book, he shall have a copy of the Section list.
4. He shall frequently call general meetings which all the
Division Heads should attend; he shall instruct and encourage
them to work adopting, with them, the means conducive to the
well-being of the Association and the propagation of the
Rosary.

Duties of the Division Heads
1. To look for active and pious persons, filled with zeal towards
the greater glory of Our Lady of the Rosary, who would form
Sections of 24 associates with which to cover the 24 hour
period of the day and to ask from the Director the
corresponding Diploma of Appointment of Section Chiefs.
2. To form lists of the Section Chiefs who die in order that they
may be benefited by the suffrages.
3. At the death of the Section Chief, he must immediately look
for one to take the place of the deceased and ask the Chaplain
for a new Diploma, while he takes charge of the vacant section
in the meantime.
4. To set an example as to attendance to the practices of the
Association and the services in honor of the Blessed Virgin
Mary.
Duties of Section Chief
1. He shall see to it that all the hours of the day of the Section
under his care be filled.
2. To inform the divisions Heads of the death of any associate so
that the latter may enjoy the benefits of the suffrages.
3. If the collections and alms be established, the Section Chiefs
must collect them and hand the over to the Director, or to the
one designated by the latter and give him too the name of the
almsgiver or donor, the amount collected.
4. To be a model in the devotion to the Virgin.
5. To send a copy of the list of the members of his section to the
Division Head, who, in turn, shall submit it to the Director, for
him to inscribe in the book of the Confraternity the names of
those associates not yet found therein; the same shall be done
in the case of a new associate enrolling in a section.

Memorandum for the Associates
1. In order to belong the Guard of Honor of Mary, that is, the

Perpetual Rosary Association, three things are necessary.
a. To be a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary.

b. To be registered in the Center of the Perpetual Rosary.
c. To bind oneself to fulfill the Hour, praying once every
month the twenty decades of the Holy Rosary, on the
assigned hour and day, set aside in the admission
diploma.
2. Persons, who do not know how to read or are unable to do so,

fulfill their duty by saying the three parts of the Rosary during
their Hour. If they should have any time left, they may say
some other prayers or repeat the Rosary till the whole hour is
consumed.
3. To gain the plenary indulgence granted to anyone doing the

guard hour, one must go to confession and receive Holy
Communion, and visiting the Chapel of the Rosary or any
other Church, pray for the intention of the Supreme Pontiff.
The Communion received before the Hour, or on the
succeeding Sunday and the confession every eight day
suffices.
4. All Division Heads and Section Chiefs gain a plenary

indulgence the day they assume their post under usual
conditions aforementioned in number 3. Besides, they gain
partial indulgence for every act proper to the Association, such
as encouraging others to join the association, attending
leaflets, etc.

5. Lastly, neither the fulfillment of the Hour nor an of the things
to which the Guard of Hour binds himself obligates himself
under the pain of sin. The fulfillment of the Hour may be
entrusted to or exchanged with, another person, it being
understood, however, that if the person entrusted with the
Hour is not an associate, he shall not gain the indulgence
although he shall have the merit of the good work he does; if
the associate be not able to fulfill it absolutely, he should
notify his section chief.
Some Answers to questions
1. Q: If, through forgetfulness or any legitimate reason, one

advances or delays the Guard Hour does he gain the
indulgences?
A: Yes
2. Q: May one, who cannot fulfill his Hour, appoint a substitute?
A: Yes, and should he not find one, he should fulfill his guard
hour, as soon as possible.
3. Q: Does anyone, who fails to comply with the duties of this
hoy association, commit any sin?
A: No, he merely fails to gain the indulgences and
unnumerable graces granted the association; but he commits
no sin, neither mortal nor venial.
4. Q: May persons, who have only one-half hour at their
disposal, associate with another to complete the Guard Hour?
A: Yes, but they should, every week, pray whatever is lacking
in order to fulfill the complete rosary.
5. Q: When one cannot fulfill the assigned hour by reason of a
legitimate cause, may he change the hour?
A: Yes, it will be convenient, however, to inform the Section
Chief so that he may look for another to fulfill that hour.

Almighty and everlasting God, who, by the death and resurrection

these brothers and sisters who aspires to become the members of
the Perpetual Rosary Association under the care of the Blessed
Virgin Mary; and through her merits grant this through Christ our

BLESSING OF THE MEDAL

Let us pray:
O God, you have chosen from all eternity the Blessed Virgin Mary
and have preserved her from all stain of the sin in order that from
her your only Son, our Savior may be born. Grant we beseech you
to bless and sanctify these medals in her honor under the title,
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, so that all members who devoutly
and piously carry them about in token of a filial love toward her,

inspired by their use may with fitting piety venerate her, and may
receive, in turn, her intercession before you. Through Christ, Our
Lord. Amen.
By the authority vested upon me by the Master General of the Order

of Preachers (or the National Director of the Perpetual Rosary
Association) I admit you to the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary
and thus make you participants in the indulgence to it granted by
the Holy Catholic Church in the spiritual gifts of the Order of
Preachers and in all such good works as through the grace of God
may be performed by the members of the Confraternity of the
Rosary now scattered all over the world. In the name of the Father,

GIVING OF MEDALS
Receive this medal as a sign of your love and dedication to Christ

and Mary, remember at all times and in all places your baptismal
dignity which has been further strengthened today, and thus living

Glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of God. Now, as we intend to renew
our commitment, let us invoke the aid of the Holy Spirit.

O God, the author and perfecter of all holiness, You call all wo are
reborn of water and the Holy Spirit to the fullness of the Christian
life and the perfection of charity. Look with kindness on those who
will renew today the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary / Gurdias de
Honor of the Perpetual Rosary Association and who devoutly
received the Medal in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady
of the Rosary and Our Father St. Dominic. As long as they live, let
them become sharers in the image of Christ, Your Son and after
they have fulfilled their mission on earth with the help of Mary, the
Virgin Mother, receive them into the joy of Your heavenly home.

O God, through the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary prepared a worthy

dwelling for your Son, grant that we pray, that, as you preserved her
from every stain by virtue of the Death of Your Son, which you
foresaw so, through her intercession, we too, may be cleansed and
admitted to your presence. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your
Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

intention to renew your commitment into the GUARDIAS DE

THE GUARDIAS DE HONOR DE MARIA
Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Queen of the Most

Holy Rosary, I (here mention your name), a poor and sinful person,
most unworthy to see your holy face, wish to serve you. Trusting in
your great mercy, in the presence of your beloved Son, Lord Jesus -

our Savior and Master, and all the Angels and Saints, I offer myself
today into your bondage of love as the most devoted child in the
Confraternity of the Rosary and Guardias de Honor, taking you as
my special Mother, Lady and Protectress. I firmly resolve never to
leave you and always to defend your honor. I especially promise
that I shall promote the devotion to your most Holy Rosary until
death.
Therefore, I humbly ask you, Most Blessed Virgin, through the

Blood of your only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, to mercifully receive
me among the ranks of your servants as your Guard of Honor; to
help me in all my troubles and needs; and above all, to come to my
assistance at the hour of death as the Mother of Mercy. Amen.
During the Offertory, the Registry of the Guardias de Honor and

the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary will be offered. After the Mass,
the said book will be opened to the devotees again to sign and share
in the spiritual benefits given by the Dominican Fathers.

THE FIFTEEN PROMISES OF OUR LADY TO THOSE WHO
PRAY THE ROSARY
The following promises were given by the Blessed Mother to St.

Dominic de Guzman and Bl. Alan de la Roche.
1. Those who faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary

shall receive signal graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all

those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell. It will

destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
4. The recitation of the Rosary will cause virtue and good works
to flourish. It will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God.
It will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world
and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal
things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this
means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of

the Rosary shall not perish.
6. Those who recite my Rosary devoutly, applying themselves to

the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be

conquered by misfortune. In his justice, God will not chastise
them; nor shall they perish by an unprovided death, i.e., be
unprepared for heaven. Sinners shall convert. The just shall
persevere in grace and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Those who have a true devotion to the Rosary shall not die
without the sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who faithfully recite the Rosary shall have, during their
life and at their death, the light of God and the plenitude of his
graces. At the moment of death, they shall participate in the
merits of the saints in paradise.
9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to

the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high

degree of glory in heaven.
11. By the recitation of the Rosary you shall obtain all that
you ask of me.
12. Those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by

me in their necessities.
13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the

advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire
celestial court during their life and at the hour of their death.
14. All who recite the Rosary are my beloved children and
the brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion for my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL SANTISIMO ROSARIO – LA
NAVAL DE MANILA
The Queen and Protectress of the Philippines
The history of Intramuros and of the Philippine Catholic Church is

not complete without mentioning the miraculous image of Nuestra
Señora del Santisimo Rosario - La Naval de Manila and her
significance.
The image of the Virgin of La Naval de Manila, also called the

"Santo Rosario," was carved in 1593 by an unknown Chinese
Sculptor upon the request of the Governor General of the

Philippines - Don Luis Perez Dasmariñas and the art direction of
the officer turned Dominican Priest Don Hernando de los Rios
Coronel. Years later, the image was donated to the Dominican
Fathers and was enshrined in her altar in the Gospel Side of the
church. Miracles were later reported through the intercession of the
Virgin of the Rosary of Santo Domingo Church.
The devotion to the Santo Rosario reached its peak with the Five
Naval battles of 1646 where the Spanish-Filipino troops protected
the islands from invading Dutch. The two old ill-equipped
Galleons, the Encarnacion and the Rosario were able to defend the
islands against 18 big and well-equipped warships. Before the
battle, the whole armada vowed to walk barefoot to her shrine in
Santo Domingo if victory will be theirs - and it happened, they
fulfilled this vow and the Arzobispado of Manila declared the
victory a miracle through the intercession of the Santo Rosario
which was later called as the Virgin of La Naval and a Grand
Festival is to commemorate the event, and the festivities are well
attended. The festivities became well known and well attended
which is culminated with her grand fiesta procession dubbed as the
“Procesion de las Procesiones” because of its sheer grandness and
historical significance that is unmatched up to the present.
With numerous miracles that she continued to lavish her devotees,

she was Pontifically Crowned on October 5, 1907, in Plaza
Magallanes in Intramuros and the event was well attended by
Filipinos, Spaniards, and Americans. She was the first Filipino
Marian image to receive such honor from the Holy See.
During the Second World War, the Santo Domingo Church was
destroyed yet the Virgin and other images, along with almost all
important documents were kept in a vault and were transferred at
the University of Santo Tomas. The image was later transferred in

1954 to a new Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City and was
declared her National Shrine by the Catholic Bishops Conference of
the Philippines. In October 1973, she was named as the patroness of
Quezon City, at that time the national capital.
During the Papal Visit of St. John Paul II to the Philippines in 1981,
at the presence of the crowd and the original image of the Virgin of
La Naval, she was proclaimed as the "Queen and Protectress of the
Philippines and the whole of Asia" and dedicated the Asian
continent to the Virgin on February 18, 1981.
