4 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE HARDWARE utilities, where the de-polarizing effect of the soil actually makes it possible
to detect all the sub-services, regardless their orientation.
Stream UP is GPR array system, towable by a vehicle (Fig. 1).
The system is completed by a control unit (the SCU, Supply and Control Unit)
The maximum acquisition speed of 60 km/h introduces a strong element of that houses an industrial PC for data storage on board, which interfaces with
differentiation with respect to the radar products previously on market and a remote PC, WiFi connected, operated by the user in the cars cabin. The HMI

typically requires an ability to investigate at least the first 1.5 m of depth, and UP.
to achieve this performance the antennas are almost always ground-
coupled.
Because of the above, the so-called "rack" system has been developed by IDS
GeoRadar for the Stream UP radar system. It is carried on the towing hook of
a vehicle, like modern bicycle carriers for cars, and can be towed close to the
ground but not in direct contact with it. Hence, increasing the velocity both
in acquisition as well as in transport mode.
The above set-up allows, on one hand operating the system at high speed
(up to 60 Km/h), but also limiting the consumption of the protective skids
and reducing the frequency of impacts with the ground of the whole
hardware.
4.1 Requirements for road circulation, approval and Anyway, it is responsibility of the user to refer to local authorities for any
certification local circulation and use requirement. Also, for antenna emission matters,
the user must refer to what already stated at par. 1.4, and verify the website

the system in open and urban environment, are listed below:
4.2 How the system is delivered and its packaging
• The system is assimilated to the "appendix trolley" category.
• The system does not require the application of the "protruding load" The system is delivered and packed in 4 flight cases (1 to 4 in Fig. 2), one
sign. Pelicase (number 5, below), 1 soft bag (number 6, Fig. 2). In particular:
• The tow hook to be mounted on the vehicle is an ISO 1103: 2007
standard 50mm ball type.
• The tow hook to be mounted on the vehicle must comply with the
vertical load technical specification of maximum 100 kg.
• The system requires safety straps.
• The system interfaces electrically with a standard 13-pin connector
(compatibility with 7-pin connector is not provided).
• The system requires a plate repeating the vehicle plate that
transports it, and it must be requested to the Transport Department
(Civil Motorization). The user is responsible for this activity and must
make sure that the plate complies with local traffic laws.
• The system is equipped with an optical unit (taillights) assembled
with a 13-pin standard electrical interface. The user is responsible for
this activity and must make sure that the taillight complies with local Fig. 2 – system packaging
traffic laws.
• The optical unit (taillights) can be placed at a minimum of 350mm
from the ground and a maximum of 400mm from the external side.
• The system complies to ECE R-26.
• The individual antenna modules as EM radiator complies to CE, FCC
and IC certification.
• The system is excluded from the Machinery Directive because it does
not have electric drives but only manual ones.

• One Central moving antenna frame: this part, includes a frame that holds
one antenna module 200 MHz and one antenna module 600 MHz; also, the
system connecting this part to the Central Fixed Frame, uses a damper that
decouples the antenna from the frame. The frame also includes the
mechanical system for attaching protective shells and the optical unit
coupling system.
• Two Lateral frames (left and right): It includes the mechanical frame that
supports two antenna modules 200 MHz and two antenna modules 600 MHz
at each side (left and right) and the related suspension systems. At each of Fig. 16 – Stream up subcomponents
the side of the frame, a wheel for shock absorption is mounted. These wheels
are removable with a quick release system for an easier storage and handling
of the system.
4.5 Lifting System The adjustment up and down of the system height, is done through a winch
installed in the central frame (Fig. 19).
The mechanical system has two main positions: Operational mode (Fig. 17,
with three Operational mode heights as specified at page 53) and Transport WARNING: CRUSHING HANDS AND FINGERS
mode (Fig. 18). The two modes mainly differ from each other because of the During the adjustment of the system by the winch there is a

To check the height of the system from the ground, there is an altimeter
(Ultrasonic diffuse-reflection sensor) at the rear of the system. The altimeter
outputs a voltage and this value is then automatically converted into height

the forward direction of the vehicle travel, in compliance with the
specifications of minimum height from the ground and inclination. The
doppler encoder is not able to distinguish the direction of movement of the
vehicle; hence, each recorded movement produces an acquisition of data,
both forward and backward. Some of the main features of the doppler

socket starts. The SCU power cable is attached to the same box and then the

lights are powered simultaneously.
This way of powering the system means that the radar system can be
switched on only with the car ignition on.
The SCU can also be powered by a standard lead-acid battery with a capacity
of at least 100 Ah. It has to be connected to the same "battery" connector on
the SCU, but the active poles of the connector will be different, because in
the case of car power supply it will be necessary to recondition the + 12V

directly and the measurement carried out by the DAD gives an indication of

4. LAN (AUX as WiFi bypass).

In order to be suspended on the car tow hook and to limit its weight, the
system does not have an independent battery, but it is powered by the rear
socket of the vehicle for the trailer lights.

• Synchronization: By pressing on the icon , the software aligns a
project between the SCU and the PC. The survey is always saved on
the SCU. Aligning the projects means that the radar data will be
present both within the U-map (PC data logger) and within the SCU.
Hence, a synchronization between the SCU and the uMap PC in terms

12.1 myWorld
By using the myWorld software platform, the User gains access to the latest
updates of software, manuals, guides and other useful tools.
The first step to obtain the personal login credentials for myWorld website,
is to fill in the registration form accessible from the web link
https://myworld.leica-geosystems.com/irj/portal (Fig. 124).
Once the login credentials have been received, Customers can access the
personal page of myWorld web portal and register their IDS GeoRadar
hardware and software products in the myProduct section (Fig. 125). In order
to finalize the products registration, the User should press “Add Product”
button (red square in Fig. 126) and follow a few simple steps of a short
procedure.
Inside the personal page of myWorld, it is also possible to verify the status
of the service (myService area) connected to a specific product that is being
repaired under warranty or maintenance conditions. The repair history of a
specific product is recorded in this section.
Fig. 127 - Products list and material download
Once registered, the products are shown in a list and from the same area the The User, using mySupport area can create a new support request (Fig. 128)
user can access to the download material related to the product itself, by that will be answered by the IDS support team. The support request must be
