Necromancy has been described within two classifications that we shall discuss within a few of
the aspects I've come across within my personal study and journey. Now first let us take a look
at the two main topics that break down Necromancy upon the most known aspects.
(1) Conjuration: this aspect is described as the summoning to full manifestation of an Apparition
into semi Caporal Visual View.
(2) Reanimation: this aspect speaks for itself within bringing the Dead back to life. But we shall
speak upon this later.
Now that you have a basic understanding upon the types of Necromantic Practice why not
break them down and discuss them in detail. Don’t be alarmed for this Ancient Practice has
been known within many Regions of the world and belief structures. Now its time to begin with
understanding them within their respective fashions.
(1) Conjuration: Better known Summoning of a Spirit is the summoning through the Triangle of
Evocation while the Necromancer stands within a Circle of Empowerment. The Image goes
back to the Grand Grimoire and many other Grimoires on Black Magical Practice such as
Grimorium Verum, True Black Magic, and Secrets of Solomon. When in detail can be traced
back to the minor keys and into the Grimoire of Pope Honorius and Munich Handbook for the
Fifteenth Century Necromancer.
(2) Reanimation: Most have heard the tales of Ghoul, The Vampire, and the Zombie. But what
does this actually mean! Within many traditions such as Haitian Vodou the Bokor utilizes a
Chemical Compound which symbolizes and mimics death. If done right the Bokor can bring the
subject back within a Zombie state with the individual truly believing they are a Zombie.
However it is noted that this tradition of Black Magic is quite different from the Jewish Custom of
the Golem. Both Traditions uses names, and Magical Talismans to control the created. The only
differences between a Zombie and that of the Golem is the Golem thinks for itself and is a
Protector, whereas the Zombie is Controlled by the Practitioner and unable to think for itself.
With this out of the way, let's get into the Historical Attributes of the Path of Necromancy within
the Mythological aspect. Necromancy has been associated with Shamanic Practices down to
Blood Sorcery of Vampiric Traditions right into kabbalah and Hermetic Practices. One Thousand
Years ago around the end of the Dark Ages Necromancy was associated with Shamanism and
was spelled Nigromancy. Five Hundred Years ago Necromancy Joined forces with Vampiric
Blood Sorcery to ward off Negative aspects known as Da'ath Energies spelled Nigromancy.
Today This Practice is spelled Necromancy.
Nigromancy (Nigro) Meaning Black with (Mancy) meaning Practice of Nigromancia according to
Scott was the Art of Black Magic Around the 1300's in the early days of the church.
Necromancy (Necroes) meaning Corpse and (Mancia) Meaning Divination which most of
modern Practitioners see as Chiromancy through the two above within the format of Art of
Death Magic.
In Haitian Vodou the Mythos of Zombies are associated with Necromancy due to the Bokor
whose power is to Bring the Dead back into an Undeath state to perform the will of the
Practitioner through a Powder known as Zombie Powder which is made up of many species of
Puffer Fish, the Poison of Frogs, and the ground bones of animals and or Humans. Some Bokor
actually utilize Gases from some species of toads to add into the Recipe.
Nigromancy is an art within the later part of the Dark Ages which was associated with
Shamanism, Herbalism, and Alchemy. The story of the Witch of Endor is a Prime example. She
utilized Blood Sorcery and Reanimation to summon, Guiding a spirit back into the Corpse to
answer the Questions of King Saul in the Fortieth year of the Israelites war against the Giants of
the Turkish Empire.
Necromancy Practices are tied Heavily into spiritualism due to the ties of Angels, Demons, and
Gods/Goddesses of Death like Anubis, Kali, Hel, Hades, Set, Supay etc. for magical
communications and associations of the art itself. Every religious Philosophy world wide has
stories of Vampires, Ghoul, Zombies down to Angel and Demonology for purposes of Divination
and Personal uses of either performing the will of the practitioner or Protection.
For example the difference between the Vodun Zombie and the Jewish Golem is thus- The
Golem has a mind of its own, and can perform acts as it sees fit, whereas the Zombie in Vodun
lives solely to do the Bokor's will as a slave. Both are brought to life through a Name, or a
Magical Talisman making it so.
In Medieval European times People would let a Horse walk over the Grave, and if it didn’t or
more to the point wouldn’t walk over it the meaning was the victim was a vampire or one of the
others mentioned. This type of Hysteria is nothing new. We see this same fear in modern times.
Today Necromancy is associated with the Greek Name Necromantia which is the meaning of
working with the dead as in Necro meaning Corpse. Here we see where the Art of Death really
plays into the image the world has of this great traditional pathworking. Black Magicians utilize
Skulls, Bones, and Blood Sorcery from both Animal and Human alike depending upon the
practice of the traditions and Regions world over.
One thing the Practitioners and Cultural Views mostly overlook is that of Divination and how it
plays into the actual summoning of a Spirit. For instance a Black Scrying Mirror and or a Crystal
Ball can be used with Blood Sorcery whereas a Divination Bowl you can use Oleums to be able
to summon a Spirit from one if not every Dimension and Plain of existence. Blood Sorcery when
used upon the scrying mirror or crystal ball acts as a gate opener much in the same way as an
offering to a Demon in Demonolatry Ritual Rites. Only difference between the two is in
Necromancy Blood opens and closes the gate whereas in Demonic summonings it is used as a
gift and offering to that specific Entity. In Divination involving Divination Bowls the Oleums can
be a mixture of many things which go with Food Coloring solutions. For example Red Food Dye
mixed in with Sulphur, Graveyard Dirt, Dragons Blood oil can be used to summon a Draconian
Demon, whereas Herbs within a Gris Gris bag full of say Sulphur, Rosemary, Graveyard Dirt,
Dragons Blood Powder, and Black Gopher Dust can be both a Summoner and a Protection
depending upon what the use is intended to be. But these are a couple examples of Herbalism
and Alchemy within divination scrying and summoning. Personally my favorite is Sulphur,
Graveyard DIrt, Dragon's Blood Powder, and Sandalwood Powder mixed with white sage is one
hell of a trip that will knock anyone on there arse. But it is a great method Herbal wise to aid in
the Practitioners mind state to help shift into that alternative state of Consciousness that places
the practitioner into a relaxed state of mind quickly and allows the visual opening of the Third
Eye.
Now let's get into the worlds practices and how it relates within similarities of views in this area
of study and practice. The Tibetan Book of the Dead speaks to death and life being a continual
circulation in much as the serpent of the Ouroboros eating its own tail. The Egyptian Book of the
Dead is the Complete opposite within its belief structure. The Egyptians believed that a Soul
could be trapped within a Body as an accursed object or be Reanimated to a mummy
viewpoints within its holdings of all curses and Plagues. Even though to the Priests whose duty
was to record each death, and or crime to which the individual was accused, they mostly were
considered spiritual mages whose sworn duty was to the Pharaoh and the queen. However
most don’t know that these Priests close to the Pharaoh were just as the guards and they were
eunuchs in the same manner as the Vatican Priests.
Greek and Roman Necromancy on the other hand was a different Style all together. The Art
within their History is spectacular, and yes i am referring to the Roman aspect of the art itself.
There was much respect for the dead in this region of the world. Through Divination and
consultation done by those who seek out the dead would lay and sleep within Tombs, upon the
Gravesites of the dead. Practitioners who sought to reanimate the dead through modern day
Necro meaning Corpse and Mancy meaning Art of. Perhaps this is why the views of this practice
is misunderstood due to the differences of the spellings. Nigro meaning Black compared to that
of Necro meaning Corpse. These two minor differences have and hold two different meanings of
the same practice.
Even in the Judeo Christian Bible we see where their God or Savior Jesus within the Gospels
was said to bring back the dead. The first account is Lazarus within John chapter Eleven who
was said to be a follower of Jesus to which came after his death and brought Lazarus back from
the dead as a clear form of Necromantic Reanimation. Again we see the same story in the Bible
in the book of Matthew Chapter nine verses eighteen through twenty six, Mark Chapter Five
verses twenty one through Forty Three, And Luke Chapter EIght verses Forty through Fifty Six
with the Daughter of Jairus who past away at a young age and jesus said she is not dead but
only sleeps. But these are just two topics and points of view on necromancy found in the Bible.
We see where apostles bring people back, Jesus himself in view of two disciples conjure two
spirits of Prophets long since dead etc. and more between the old testament and the new.
However, since i have brought up the bible and Necromancy topic within it, the Jewish
Encyclopedia gives a detailed perspective upon the Biblical account of Necromancy, but fails to
mention the Apparatus used in their version of Necromantic Practices. It does speak upon three
classes of Necromancers. The first was ob,the second was Yidde’oni, and the Third is the
Doresh el ha-metim. Now the Etymology of the first two is clear and straightforward meaning its
already been determined upon the connotation. The third however, is described as the
Questioner of the Dead. the Ob is said to denote the soothsaying spirit, basically Divination of
conjuring forth to ask about past present and future details. The Practitioners of Ob utilized
Human Skulls which is common throughout Necromantic History within the worlds practices. It is
also notable to make mention that Necromancy within the bible was compared to be equal to
that of idolatry in the same manner as Aaran and the Calf out of Leviticus.
The Talmud speaks and refers to Necromancers as “those that dig up the Dead” and “and those
that Predict through Bones of the Dead” are compared to Female Practitioners mostly through
the Torah otherwise known as the Five books of Moses. But it does go on to speculate that
Necromancers are both male and female.
The Midrash speaks to the Necromancer of Endor which is well quoted by many Practitioners
and Authors of today such as Christian Days Witches Book of the Dead, Lucian Rofocales Book
Necromancy the Forbidden Arts, down to Oberon in his book Apprentice Wizard. The Midrash
and the Torah basically condemns any man or women who is found with a Familiar Spirit or
Engages in Ghostly affairs of Spiritual Conjuration.
The Munich Manuscripts speaks to the Babylonian Talmud between the years 1342, and 1343
had over 577 Jewish Texts that were hand written and copied down which included the
Experiments of Necromancy and the various Grimoires to which they were found. For example
the Grand Grimoire Red Dragon gives excellent views of tools used in Necromancy including
how to make them. The Constitution of Pope Honorius shows the Hand of Glory which is
associated the the Corpse of a Convicted Murderer who was recently executed for said crime
and medically severed. Grimoire known as the Magus by Francis Barrett describes in Detail the
two types of Necromancy Practiced. Personally i found the Doctrines and Rituals of High Magic
by Eliphas Levi to be the Best due to its detailed description of Black Magical Working he did in
front of an English women to which he was forced to do. However even though it was his only
recorded Ritual that he completed using Black Magic (Nigromancy) i must add that it is similar to
various different accounts and recorded Conjurations. This work was later published in the 15th
century known as the Munich Handbook Manual for the 15th century Necromancer.
These added in with with the Grimoire of Armadel also known as the Book of Armadel speaks to
the many Spirits angels and demonic legions that are associated with the dead which in some
cases can be traced back to pagan gods such as Anubis, Supay, Set, Hades, Persiphone,
Hecate, Lilith, Hel etc. world over.
In the Book of Angels it speaks to the Anthology of Necromancy within the Formulation of the
Text as being Highly Demonic in Nature. This text describes a Form of Alchemy that is similar in
Nature to the Black Raven also known as the Threefold Coercion of Hell by Faust, and that of
the Three Books of Occult Philosophy by Agrippa. All three of these Texts deal with Rings,
Astrology, Metals, and Geometric Shapes to which to use within the Practices. It doesn’t stop
there, for it also speaks to both the Blood and Skins of Sacrificed Animals down to Characters
and Planetary Images.within the field of these said and spoken one can literally seek out the
Effects and create Apparitions to cause or create diseases and deformities down to say love
and good luck for someone or for oneself and vise versa if the Practitioner so desired it to be so
or even justifiable. On a side note however most if not all of the experiments within this grimoire
does speak and show Astrological Symbology, Signs within each Character down to the
Messayac’ spelling of the Hebrew lettering of the Kabbalistic Formulation of the Messiah which
is quite interesting for sure.
The two aspects presented in the Book of Angels are first of the Ritual Magic which a
Philosopher named John Friedman Describes within the Secrets of the Philosophers in the
arena of thirteenth Century to Mean as being ‘faux-theurgic. His view is that it clearly is
Hermiatic in Nature if not Origin due to how it was Written. This is quite different from say
Elizabeth Wade’s view of the Wheel with alphabet Lettering and or Numerology of Astrological
in Correspondence of methods to details or even view of Performing some kind of early Fortune
Telling Divination. One thing is for sure with the Book of Angels is it is more mysterious within its
Necromantic Practices ranging from magical squares to the inscriptions of Astrological signs.
When we move further in time closer to our own we locate that of Dr. Faust which we can view
two sources of information. The first being in the Chivalrous Rite of Anti- Scot, and the Second
being the Report of Doctor John Faustus by and English Author named Wagnerbook in 1594
but the main source printed in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries was the Faustbuch 1587
which was reprinted again from the original text called the Faust Book better known as the
Wolfenbuttel Manuscript 1506. This text and or tale puts forth the spiritual Blood Pacts of selling
the individuals soul to Mephistopheles through Necromancy Practices. It was said and recorded
that Doctor Faust was a German Astrologer, Magician, and Renaissance Historian of Folk
Magic, Plays, and Practitioner of the arts. The myth goes that things became so bad that Doctor
Faust utilized the arts of Necromancy and Black Magical Practices to call Forth and Summon
the Mesopotamian King of Hell Mephistopheles who is known as both a Trickster and a Pact
Maker to save his Practices and LifeStyle.
In the Fourteenth Century Cartomancy became apart of Spiritual Communion, but didn’t
become or gain Popularity until the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries within the Magical
Practices known as Tarot Card Reading which is now one of Many methods used in DIvination
today. Although many claim to be the Originator of the true works of Cartomancy ranging from
Edward Arthur Waite to Eliphas Levi down to Doctor John Dee and Edward Kelley and finally to
a more notable name Aleister Crowley.
Today Tarot Card Reading is associated with Divination Bowls, Black Scrying Mirrors like that
mentioned in the Munich Manuscripts of the Mirror of Lilith, to the Ouija Board and Crystal Balls
of Various Sorts and Sizes. Even the Art of Palmistry and Alchemy have been brought into this
Divining Aspect. But for the most part Divining Rods, to the Ouija Board and Cartomancy
Practices within Necromantic Spiritual Communing are most common within the Worlds
Religious Practices to date.
In Black Magical Practices ranging from African Voodoo, to Haitian Vodou, down to New
Orleans Vodun and into Palo Mayombe, Witchcraft, and down into Santa Muerte, and Satanism,
Quimbanda and Umbanda Skulls and Bones of both Human and Animal alike have been seen
to go hand and hand. Even Blood Sorcery also referred to as BloodLetting, have been used to
open portals, Gateways, and are even given as Food or Offerings to the many styles of Gods
from Angels or Fallen Angels to Demons down to both the Lwa (Loa) to the Ouggin and Djinn
world wide. Look at the image of Santa Muerte or La Santa Muerte also referred to as Holy
Death or Saint Death. Depending upon the need of her Fanbase or Followers she is known to
wear a wide range of Garments or Robes from Black for Death, Red for Love, down to Green for
money. One of the more recent colors of Saint Death is the Multi Colors in symbology of the
Gays and Lesbians needs. But under the Robes no matter the color we see the Boney Lady as
a Skeleton Figure.
Within many of the Pagan Traditions such as described in the Book Witchcraft from the Inside
by Raymond Buckland, he tells how the Ritual Hunts became a Ceremony based of Arrows
being tossed through what we call Hula Hoops. Whereas in Native Tribes the Rituals and
Ceremonies of the Hunters where seen to wear Animal Carcasses to symbolize the successful
hunts and Ranks of the Tribes men.
Skulls within Necromancy are seen as a spiritual Nexus between the Ethereal Realm and that of
the Spiritual.
Hip Joints and Spinal Bones can be charged up and utilized for Curses or Hexes depending
upon if your seeking to kill or to teach someone a lesson.
The three sizes of bones are utilized for different magical purposes for example, large bones are
associated with the masculine, Medium Bones are associated with the Feminine, and the Small
are Associated with the Child or Children aspects of Divinity. As seen within the work of both
Levi and Barrett and now down to Agrippa we can see how the three aspects of the Brain can
be seen as Alpha Beta and Omega the Trinitarian Three and One Godhood. Even Tsirk Susej
said it best when he took Crowley's work to the next level by stating Thelema Xeper Deitus
meaning to Will into Being or Will oneself to Become a God.
On a personal note i have been studying Necromancy for the past seven months Professionally
within the aspects of Mythology, Historically, and Practice through the Maergzjiran Cabal
System of Magical Study and Practice. Since buying, Reading, Studying, and Practicing their
unique System put forth by Ascended GrandMaster Somnus Dreadwood and his Associates, i
have first handedly seen just how powerful and potent the rituals are within their books just by
Applying the methods put forth within just a couple spell castings. I was amazed at how easy
they were to perform, but also stunned at how fast they manifested Ritual wise to completion. I
have been talking with a member of the Cabal and been discussing becoming a full member
and doing the rituals necessary to become or take on the title of Leiche. Before i do i’ve been
instructed to contact Grandmaster Dreadwood first. This to me is wisdom. The more i delve into
Necromancy and the Art and Practices from world wide Traditional Styles and becoming
Familiar with their Gods and the Spirits they Commune with, the more i am personally humbled
by the Gnosis hidden within the pages of the Grimoires themselves.
Within each Regions of the World that i look into upon Spiritual Manifestation, Black Magic, and
Sources of the Undead Proportions down to the very Grimoires and Manuscripts which have
and are continuing to lead me into other renowned sources of information is not only impressive
but outstanding down to impressive. When i first delved into Necromancy almost a decade ago,
i had no idea that i would be delving this far into it almost a ten years later. For example back
then i had only scratched the surface of this mysterious and forbidden art. But today i realized
that back then i wasn’t ready for this path by a long shot. Today i have studied materials that
have lead me into Shamanism, Blood Sorcery, Kabbalistic and Hermetic Practices, and straight
into Folk Magic, Myths, Legends, Black Magic, Divination, and Multi-Religious Pathworkings i
never knew even existed Dating back hundreds of years to Pre-Christian Times, to
Zoroastrianism and Beyond. I've seen how the Spirits became Gods of Death, to Angelic Beings
becoming Demons, down to Ancient Gods. i’ve seen how Alchemy, Astrology, Symbolism, down
to Herbalism and Geometric Ceremonial Rituals have Made men fear to be more than meets the
eye!
I truly believe that to get to the root of our fears we need to know where and why things became
what they are. When people here the term Necromancy the thing Grave Robbing and Corpse
Defilement. Within this Essay i believe i have successfully honed in upon the fears, the outlooks,
and the different types of Practice down to the Practitioners who experimented with them. I’ve
shown the two types of and Methods that can be employed, but most importantly shown them
from various different Religious backgrounds to different Regions of the World. The many
sources given within this essay can be found within many other sources such as Occultism,
Black Magic, Biblical, to Grimoires etc. mentioned above, but mostly one can go to their locale
Libraries and find many of them or at best they can get them for you. A thing to remember is if
you live near a College you are able to visit their Libraries. The reason i bring this up now at this
junction is due to most of the old materials and references i have found are not permitted to
leave the ground of the College Libraries. This is due sadly to they are either old newspaper
articles or they are on the old Ribbon type Films. Even abroad or in a major city you can get
your hands on or near these sources from museums and or download from the scribd app. The
point is with every source there are references to others if you know where to look for them and
be self ambition enough to take advantage of the resources available to you.
Here i would like to give a huge thank you to Edgar Kerval for giving me the chance and
opportunity to share with you all my knowledge of my personal study and practices of Anthology
of Sabbatica. I hope this Essay inspires you all and is Educational at the same time within one
of the most feared and unknown Practices outside of those that have dedicated their lives to this
Beautiful and Powerful Art Form. If your interested in the Art and Practice of Necromancy i’d
recommend the sources above as a great place to begin.
