Hari & Bro. Shaji Vision: A society where there is no inequality between people and where everyone is responsible for the other ones welfare. Mission: To give care and shelter to mentally disabled persons or people who are abandoned by their family. Objectives: 1. Ensure that there is no mentally disabled or abandoned people living in the society without getting the necessary care and love that is needed for a person to have a healthy life. 2. To give care and shelter to abandoned or mentally disabled or abandoned people in the society. Major Activities and Client Groups: The major activity of the organisation is to provide care and shelter to mentally disabled persons or people who are abandoned by their family. The organisation runs a home for the mentally disabled people and people who are abandoned by their family. The organisation takes care of their shelter, medication and food. The major client group of the organisation are mentally disabled or abandoned people. Admittance is provided only to males. Majority of the cases are referrals from various hospitals or from police authorities.

Staffing: Administrators - Two Volunteers Two Role of Social Worker:  The role as a therapeutic counsellor is one of the major role present in the organisation.  There are no proper fund raising plans or programs for the organisation, so the social worker can work or act as a fund raising agent.  Conduct training programs for physical and mental well being of the persons admitted here.  Documentation of cases and daily events. Financial Resources: The major source of finance is from the fund raising activities and donations made by well wishers. The organisation has a tie-up with the Diocese of Alappuzha and in any case if the Administrators are incapable of running the organisation further or faces difficulty in running the organisation then the administration and all matters with regard to it will become the responsibility of the Diocese or in such cases the authority will move to the Diocese as per the agreement.

Observation and Evaluation: The place is clean and tidy. There is no trained social worker in the institute to monitor the affairs or the persons here. No proper assessment of the problems faced by each individual is made here. This assessment is necessary to understand about the level of problem faced by each client. Only then can a plan be implemented for the development of the client. The attitudes of the administrators towards the persons admitted here are based on sympathy rather than empathy. This acts as a block towards understanding the real problems of the persons and preparing individual plans for each persons development and recovery. Besides love and care and just providing food, shelter and medicine, the administrators must understand that each person is unique and needs separate plan for their development and recovery. The organisation lack proper financial planning. There are no proper fund raising plans, programs or events. All the activities of the organisation is running from the donations it receives for the well wishers from time to time. A regular source of income or a plan for it is necessary for the smooth functioning of the organisation. Learning Points: a. Professional Learning Roles of social worker in an organisation o By studying the roles performed by the social workers in the organisation the trainee understood the various roles of a social worker in organisations like these. The trainee also got an understanding on how these services or roles can be improved with a proper program plan and periodic training to improve the skills of the social worker. Proper plan and programs for fund raising o An organisation needs proper planning and programs for fund raising. This is necessary for conducting the affairs of the organisation properly and for planning the future activities and developmental projects of the organisation. If there is no proper funding then, the organisation will be affected with financial crisis which will affect all the functions of the organisation. The need of empathy over sympathy o The social worker must work with empathy to the client rather than sympathy then only he can provide a professional service to the client and develop the client to come out of his problem by himself.

b. Personal Learning Interviewing skill o To study the functions of the organisation, the trainee conducted interviews with the Director, the social workers, the office assistant and the women and children. This helped in the development of the interviewing skill of the trainee.

Interaction skill o The interaction with the people who are mentally disabled or abandoned by their family members helped the trainees interaction skill with people who are disabled. This interaction also helped the trainee in understanding how to build a rapport with these kinds of people.
