    II. Birth of a Genre (12 mins)


    A. (1970s nagsimula to) Mention the era when bomba films arose. Based sa mga
    research ko, puro Marcos Martial Law lumalabas pag sinesearch bomba films. So you
    can say na, it is almost impossible to discuss bomba films without somehow touching
    upon the martial law era. It is during this time kasi when bombs films took place.
    B. Ironically, bomba films are what makes PH unique. It is a PH cinema staple.
    (i tried searching whether others have bomba films to no avail) It’s possible na other
    countries have bomba films pero they do not call it as such.
    C. For PH, bomba film is a separate genre on its own.
    D. Uhaw (1970) first bomba film that found commercial success in the PH.
    Ginamit na nila tong pangcash cow.
    E. In 1960s, usong uso ung Uhaw Komiks which features fan fiction stories of
    real actresses presented in nude. Simula nung nagML, pinasara na to kaya
    nauso bomba films.

    III. Significance (10 mins)


    A. Give examples of bomba films
    B. Consider these:
    a. It shows the dark side of ML and portrays the lives of people living
    during that era. Through its lewd charm, it attracts Filipinos to watch
    the same and educates them.
    b. Despite being soft-core, it also communicates with the audience the
    realities theyre facing during the time.
    c. It presents the economic situation of the PH during ML.
    d. Although generally considered negatively, bomba paved the way for
    mainstream PH cinema to financially flourish although it is way more
    accepted and popular than films like “Himala”
    e. It has a star system wherein they use the same actors and actresses
    over and over again making them an icon and paving the way for their
    career. EX: rica peralejo, joyce jimenes, gloria diaz et al
