III. Procedure
Approach: 4A’s

A. Preliminary Activity

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Good morning, class! I am teacher Marissa. But you Good morning, teacher Mar!
can call me Teacher Mar.

How are you today, class? We are good and fine, teacher.

I am glad to hear that, class. Are you ready for

today’s class? Yes, teacher!

Very good!

Okay, everybody standup for a prayer.

(Amen) (Amen)

Everybody, please take your seats and please say

present if your name is called, for the record of (Present!)
attendance.
B. Recall

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Okay class, since everyone is present, I can gather
many information from your previous experiences.

Can someone give me their previous encounter

during a severe weather?

And by the way, what is weather?

Teacher! Weather is a daily condition, like sunny,
Very good! rainy, windy, cloudy, and stormy.

And going back to my first question, can you give

me, if there’s any, an experience during a severe
weather, like what have you encountered during
heavy rains? Teacher! One time during heavy rains, the water in
the river rises up.
Oh, good thing that you have not experience
flooding.

You should be very careful and watchful in your

areas during that kind of weather, class for you to
avoid disasters and casualties. Yes, teacher!

So, these topics will be related to our discussion for

today.

C. Motivation
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

In connection with what you have mentioned

regarding your previous encounters with
weather, we will be having a drill for you to
learn and enjoy our lesson, before engaging to
the formal discussion.

Are you ready? Yes, teacher!

Okay, I will divide the class into 4 groups.

Each group will have to complete one (1)
puzzled image, printed. The group will be
given clues and idea on what are you going to
form, according to the definition of each
puzzle. Each group have the same image for
you to complete.

Okay, form a circle with your group.

You will be given only 2-3 minutes for this

activity.
AENOMEMRET

It counts the number of rotations, which is

used to calculate wind speed. An anemometer
is an instrument that measures wind speed and
wind pressure. Anemometers are important
tools for meteorologists, who study weather
patterns.

Okay, your time is up!

Let us check!

ANEMOMETER

Okay, very good class! Everybody got the

correct answer! You have completed the
puzzle, correctly!

So, the image represents an Anemometer. This

instrument is used for us to be able to measure
wind speed.

Teacher, I think it is about how will we use instruments

ACTIVITY to measure weather.
Alright, class! Let us proceed to an activity for
us to lead towards our formal discussion of our
lesson.

Have you gotten clues on what topic we will

be having today?

Okay, you have the point, very good!

So today, we will be focusing on using

anemometer as an instrument to use and
calculate wind speed

So, with the same group, remain in your seats

and we will be having an activity called
“Assemble Me!”

What you will be doing is to follow the

instructions written in the handout that I will
be giving each group.

There, we will be assembling an anemometer

out of paper cups, straws, and a pencil.

Materials:
 Hole puncher
 Paper cups
 Plastic straws
 Pencil
 Push pin

Step 1:
Using the hole puncher, create 4 opposite holes
in one of the cups

Step 2:
Push the 2 straws in the holes created,
oppositely.

Step 3: use the hole puncher to create 2 holes,

side by side, in the remaining 4 cups
Step 4: in each cup, with two holes, insert the
end part of the straws in these holes.

Step 5: make sure that the cups are arranged in

the same way, each opening, facing clockwise.

Step 6: Using the tip of your pen to create a

hole at the bottom of the cup that serves as the
body of the anemometer Final product:

Yes, teacher!

Step 7: insert the pencil, eraser first, to the hole

created at the bottom of the main cup

Teacher, we were very curious about how to use and

assemble it because it is our first time to see how
anemometer is used and how it works.
Step 8: CAREFULLY, use the push pin and
push it in the eraser head, through the straws

Teacher, it is important for them to have the same

direction because if it is not, the anemometer will not
work, like it will not turn, because the wind will enter in
the openings, so if they don’t have the same direction,
each cup will not follow each other in moving.

Teacher, the cups will follow turning the direction of the

wind from my mouth.
ANALYSIS

Did you enjoy the activity, class?

Okay, very good!

In making the anemometer, in which part have

you find difficulties? Is this your first time,
interacting with this kind of instrument?

Thank you for your observations and your

answers, class!
Teacher, if the anemometer turns faster, the wind is also
Yes, you less encounter this kind of fast, and if the anemometer is slow in turning, the wind

professionals mostly use this instrument, but it
is very important for you, students to know
much about instruments used in measuring
weather components.

So, in this topic, we are focus on measuring

the component, which is wind, using an
anemometer.

In your activity, why do you think it is

important for all the openings of the cups to be Teacher, I think the use of anemometer is for us to be
in the same direction? aware of how strong the wind is.

anemometer.
What have you observed?
Okay, very good!

ABSTRACTION Teacher, if that is the situation, it feels like a heavy rain

will follow.
Okay, if you can observe, wind is moving
horizontally, right?

Horizontal, which means straight only from

left to right, or right to left, so the turn of the
cups will follow.

How do you think will we be able to say that

the speed of wind is fast or slow?
Teacher, mostly during these times, we enter inside our
houses and never stay outside, close our doors because a
Okay, very good! The wind speed is measured very strong wind can destroy our things inside our house
through the anemometer’s number of turns. and also can bring materials like roofs and other

numbers of turns or many numbers of turns,
the speed of the wind is fast.

How do you think using an anemometer

important?
Like, what is its use aside from calculating
windspeed, after that, what will be its
indication or message to us?

Yes, very good. It is for us to be careful and

aware of the weather.

How do you feel if it is sunny, yet windy?

Yes, that is right. Even us, in our homes, we

need electric fan to produce or to initiate the
movement of the wind if we feel to much heat,
caused by the sunny day.

But, what if it is cloudy and the wind is

strong?

Yes, that is really observed, right? That after

that cloudy and windy time, a heavy rain (Answer may vary)
follows, as the clouds eventually pours rains,
because the clouds accumulated, brought by
the wind will then precipitate if the clouds
cannot hold enough condensed water droplets.

Also, we must be careful during these times

because the strong winds might bring debris or
materials that may hit us.

How about during heavy rains and strong

wind? What would you do?

Yes, it is very important for us to stay indoors

during strong winds, and not go outside or
even travel or ride vehicles because a very (Answers differ)
strong wind can even drive off the huge
materials away.

And for us to not be hit by heavy and

dangerous materials, brought by the strong
wind, we must stay indoors.

So, to measure or calculate the speed of the

wind, you have to put a red mark “X” on one
of the cups in the anemometer, as your basis,
and count how many times the red X have
passed over you, in 30 seconds.

Multiply the rotations by two. For example, 10

times it passed, so 10 x 2 to be calculated as 20
rotations per minute.

EVALUATION

So, try blowing your anemometer, and the

other members will record how many times it
passed over them, and calculate the speed.

APPLICATION

Okay, for you to further experience the use of

anemometer, using our wall fan, alternating,
each group, you will tally the speed of the
wind, using your anemometers, through the
wind produced by our wall fan.

First, switch only the “number 1” switch, and

record the speed, using the calculation I told
you.
Next, in escalating switch, “number 2”, you
will record the same. And the last switch will
be number 3.

So, each group will tally or record in an

alternate manner.

ASSIGNMENT

Okay, for your assignment, right a 2-3

paragraph telling how an anemometer is useful
in predicting weather.
This assignment is a total of 50 points!
