it.

In completing this taks, the authors faced many problems, but with the help of
many people, all the problems could be passed. May Allah SWT give the blessing for
them. Although this paper has many deficiencies in the arrangement and explanation,

 Preliminary

1.1 Mini research background

During the Covid-19 period, as it is now, face-to-face learning was stopped to
avoid increasing numbers of people who were infected with the Covid-19 virus. then
online media is used to carry out teaching and learning activities. one of which is the
zoom application.

The zoom application is an online-based application that is used as a supporting

media to make it easier for teachers and students to carry out teaching and learning
activities during this covid-19 period.

Therefore, in this mini research, the author will try to explore everything about
“The Role of the Zoom Application as an Online Learning Media at the Moment”

1.2 Mini research problem formulation

In this simple research, several problems will be discussed, namely:

1. During the Covid-19 pandemic, what causes many people to use Zoom media?
2. what are the advantages and disadvantages of using zoom media to support
teaching and learning activities during this covid-19 pandemic?

1.3 Research purposes

This study aims to find out more about the zoom application as a medium for
online-based teaching and learning activities that are very widely used at this time.

2.1 Zoom

Zoom was founded by engineer and former Cisco Webex company executive, Eric
Yuan, in 2011, and has been launching software services since 2013. Zoom's ever-
increasing revenue along with an increasing number of users made the company achieve
unicorn status in 2017 with a valuation of $1. billion. In 2019, Zoom became a publicly
traded company and was listed on the NASDAQ. Since early 2020, the use of the Zoom
service has continued to increase since the new coronavirus pandemic broke out in the
world, making many users use this application as an online face-to-face service. This
application is headquartered in San Jose, California, Amerika.

The Zoom app is a video-based communication tool. How to use Zoom depends on
the device because this application can be installed on desktops, mobile phones, tablets,
to space systems. In general, users use this application to conduct meetings to video and
audio conferences.

This service is provided free of charge for video conferencing meetings of up to

100 users, with a usage time limited of up to 40 minutes. To extend the meeting time
and increase the number of users in the meeting, Zoom provides a subscription plan for
around $15–20 per month. Zoom also provides a special subscription service for
business users with a price range of $50–100 per month with more enriched features,
such as the Zoom Rooms service.

From its official website, Zoom also lists the various awards it has won, such as
Leader in Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant for Meeting Solution, 2019 Reader's Choice
Award Winner, 2019 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private company in America,
Glassdoor #2 Best Place to Work 2019, TMC 2018 Communications Solutions Products
of the Year Award, and many more.

B. Features of the zoom app

high definition quality or often called HD. In addition, this Zoom application

more interactive meetings with the collaboration tools of the Zoom app.

Regarding its security, users don't need to doubt it anymore. This is

protection so that user security becomes more secure.

Users can also record meetings conducted with Zoom and save them
directly on their respective devices that are used or on a cloud account. What's

The app also has a scheduling feature to start a meeting. Apart from that,
you can also start a meeting through your Outlook, Gmail, or iCal account.

years. This makes it easy for users to make calls from one user to another or
group calls.

3.1 Research Methods

This study was conducted to reveal the usefulness of Zoom as an online learning
medium. This study uses a qualitative method which is a natural research design, in the
sense that the researcher does not try to manipulate the research setting, but conducts a
direct study of the students.

Mirra N. Milla (2010) states that the reason for using qualitative research
methods is that a complex phenomenon can be accommodated by using open methods
and the use of theory serves to develop research sensitivity to guide the course of
research and reveal the problems under study.

The data that appears in this study is an expression of information submitted by

the respondent to the researcher and will be accommodated to obtain appropriate results.

3.2 Population and Sample

1) Population

The population is a generalization area consisting of objects or subjects that have certain
qualities that are determined by the researcher to be studied and then draw conclusions. the
population in this study were all school students

2) Sampel

Given the large population, and in order to obtain a representative sample, namely a sample
that truly describes the actual state of the population, the sample was taken using a technique,
namely purposive sampling.

Purposive sampling is sampling that aims to take a subject based on a specific purpose
(Arikunto, 2006). This study aims to determine The Role of the Zoom Application as an Online

3.3 Data collection technique

The technique of collecting data in this research is by asking several questions

about the Zoom application to high school students and several students via Google
Form.

CHAPTER IV

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

4.1 Research result

During the current Covid-19 pandemic, the use of the Zoom online application is in
great demand by many people. in addition to facilitating online teaching and learning
activities, this application is also very easy to use.
Of these several factors, the Zoom application is in great demand by many people.
Both high school students and college students. The factor of technological progress is
also one of the supporting factors that causes the zoom application to become one of the
applications used by many people.
Respondents realized that during the Covid-19 pandemic everything was difficult to
do, either at work or in teaching and learning activities so that many difficulties
occurred. In terms of education and in terms of work. Many school students or students
who miss lessons, as well as workers.

4.2 Research Discussion

The existence of the use of the Zoom application is increasing very rapidly. The
Zoom application is one of the favorite applications for many people during the Covid-
19 pandemic.

 In addition, the ease of using the Zoom application also makes many people
choose to use this application in their daily activities. Due to the many advantages
provided by this application, there are also many features provided by this application.
so it's no wonder why so many people use it.

From the survey we took, 72.4% of people claimed to know about the Zoom
online application and 27.6% said they did not know about the Zoom online application.

It can be seen from the diagram above that previously many people knew about
the zoom application. But few use it, because everyone can still work directly and meet
each other without having to be afraid of the spread of the virus.

However, after the Covid-19 pandemic people cannot work by interacting

directly, due to the possibility of spreading the virus. So in need of online media, one of
which is the Zoom application.
From the survey we conducted, we found several reasons why many people
choose to use the zoom application to carry out learning activities with online media
during this pandemic. including:
1. Zoom can be used for many people to meeting
2. Zoom application provides features that are easier to understand for users and
provides a guest mode so that users do not have to log in before using this
application.
3. Because Zoom is very practical and easy to understand and use
4. Because the zoom application is very effective and simple to use
5. Zoom is easier to catch the signal.

 In addition, from this survey, we got information that many people are satisfied with
the performance of the Zoom online application. According to the data we got, 89.7% of
people were satisfied using the Zoom application and 10.3% said they were not satisfied
using the Zoom application

the Zoom application. Due to its many features that make it easier for people to use it.

From the survey. We also got some opinions about the effectiveness of using the
Zoom application during the Covid-19 Pandemic. that is :

1. So far so effective, because the app is very flexible for users. It's just that
there is a time limit for ordinary users.
2. Because during this covid-19 pandemic, the online learning system is one of
the implementations of distance education, so this zoom application is used
to make learning easier

But the Zoom application also has weaknesses, here are some opinions about the
weaknesses of the Zoom application:
1. For non-premium users, participants who use zoom are limited.
2. It's cost lot of quota
3. This application provides premium access to be paid monthly at a specified
rate. There is a time limit and a limit on the number of participants who can
enter the room.
4. Zoom which is not premium has a time limit of 40 minutes

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

5.1 Conclusions

Based on the research in chapter IV, it can be concluded that the existence of the
Zoom application for online learning media during the Covid-19 pandemic is very much
needed now. However, this application also still has many shortcomings, so that other
applications are also needed to support online teaching and learning activities. From
some of the existing respondents, they claimed to feel helped by the Zoom online
application for teaching and learning activities.

5.2 Suggestion

The use of the Zoom application is very helpful during this Covid-19 Pandemic.
However, because there are some shortcomings, it is also a good idea to use other
applications to support teaching and learning activities.

Keep in mind that each application has its own advantages and disadvantages.
