Chapter I: Introduction

The infectious disease of the COVID-19 pandemic affected all aspects of human life
including business, research, education, health, economy, sport, transportation, worship, social
interactions, politics, governance and entertainment (Orfan and Elmyar, 2020). To avoid the
spread of COVID-19, the world took certain measures. They closed all the educational
institutions, locked down the cities and banned people from traveling from a city to another city
Since its outbreak in late December 2019, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the
world and like any critical sector, education has been hit hard. It is understandable that the spread
of COVID-19 caused school closures and lockdown around the world. Meng et al. (2020) argued
that almost all countries experienced changes in education. Since the spread of the COVID-19
pandemic, the universities have transformed teaching and learning and the lecturers have been
conducting online classes (Rahim and Chandran, 2021). Moreover, the instructors have also used
other platforms like, Zoom, Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and WebEx to deliver their lectures
(Danish, 2020).
Spreading from an infected person’s mouth or nose from sneezing, coughing, speaking,
people panic and uncertainty for the future. It is an airborne disease that can quickly spread from
22, 2020, and 633 suspected cases were reported as of March 1. The continuous spreading of
Coronavirus resulted in the shutdown of educational institutions starting around March of 2020.

The pandemic has changed academic seriously: schools switched to online education,
face-to-face teaching shifted to online teaching where both teachers and students were allowed to
employ this platform, new assessments method has to be used, resulting in major changes in the
experience of students of their academic performance. The lack of interactions has had negative
impacts on students in the sense that they are less motivated to study because of environmental
changes that came with the switch to online learning. Students attitudes toward online learning is
This research simply talks about the effects of covid-19 in the academic performance of
the Grade 12-TVL Students of Caba National High School. We were able to think and start of
this research for us to find what can be the effects of covid-19 in the academic performance of
students. The flow of this research will be focused on the effects of covid-19 in the academic
performance of the Grade 12-TVL Students of Caba National High School through online survey
questionnaire.

Methodology
The current research study used a quantitative research design in which a survey questionnaire
was designed to examine the effects of Covid-19 on the Academic Performance of the Grade 12
TVL Students of Caba National High School. The data attained were analyzed through
descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The researchers used descriptive statistics to
identify the frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation of the respondents'
demographic profile as well as to measure the effects of Covid-19 on the Academic Performance
of the Grade 12 TVL students of Caba National High School. An online survey was shared with
the class section of Grade 12 TVL students on various social media platforms. Students and
researchers were asked to answer the questionnaire for research purposes. The questionnaire of
this study consisted of 10 questions. The students' evaluated the effects of Covid-19 in the
academic performance of Grade 12 TVL students in Caba National High School and the distance
learning during the pandemic. The present study was carried out through social media platforms
where all the respondents of Grade 12 TVL students of Caba National High School including 9
male and 21 female, total numbers of 30 participants from Grade 12 TVL students. Their ages
ranged between 17 and 18 years old. The sample size was calculated to be 30 participants. Data
collection was done using social media platforms. Data collection was done during the period

This chapter contains detailed presentation and discussion of data analysis and the results
of this study. With 30 students (regardless of the number of males and females) from Grade 12-
TVL of Caba National High School asked to answer a 10-item questionnaire in order to collect

The frequency and percentage distribution of respondents who took part in the study are
shown in the table above. The responders are 25% percent male and 75% female, as seen in the
diagram.

The pie chart shows that 40% of respondents answered 1-3 hours they spend, 50% of
respondents answered 4-6 hours they spend, 10% of respondents answered 7-9 hours they spend
studying online, while none answered 10+ hours spent studying online.
The pie chart shows how difficult or easy is it to stay focused on their schoolwork. From
the pie chart, it is clear that the majority of the participants answered Moderate, meanwhile,
23.3% of the participants answered Difficult, and none of them answered Easy.

From the pie chart, it is clear that 53.3% of the participants answered Moderate, meanwhile,
43.3% of the participants answered Difficult, and 4.4% of the participants answered easy.

After finishing our response analysis in our outbreak of COVID-19 Survey, we found that
