Notes:
These fingerless mitts are worked in two directions:
The hand portion is worked flat in garter stitch. Then stitches are picked up and worked
in rounds for the thumb and wrist portion.
Slip the first stitch (with yarn in front) of every row when working garter stitch for the
hand section. It makes picking up stitches easier.
Abbreviations:
dpn - double pointed needle
k - knit
pm - place marker
sl m - slip marker
ssk - slip one stitch knitwise, slip the next stitch knitwise, and knit these two stiches
together
k2tog - knit the next two stitches together as one
k3tog - knit the next three stitches together as one
Provisional Cast On
1. Using waste yarn and crochet hook, chain 11 stitches.
2. With dpn pick up 10 stitches from chained stitches. (One for each "bump" on back of
crocheted chain.)
Three Needle Bind Off
1. Hold the two needles with the live stitches parallel to each other in your left hand.
Slip the right needle knitwise through the first stitch from each needle and knit them
together.
2. Repeat Step 1 with the second stitch on each needle.
3. Slip the first stitch over the second stitch to bind off.
Continue until all stitches are bound off.

Round 1: Pick up and knit 29 stitches (one stitch for every 2 garter stitch rows), place
marker at end of round. Divide stitches on dpn's for knitting in rounds.
Round 2: Sl m, cast on 9 stitches, pm, knit to end of round. [38 stitches]
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: Sl m, ssk, k5, k2tog, sl m, knit to end of round. [36 stitches]
Round 5: Knit
Round 6: Sl m, ssk, k3, k2tog, sl m, knit to end of round. [34 stitches]
Round 7: Knit
Round 8: Sl m, ssk, k1, k2tog, sl m, knit to end of round. [32 stitches]
Round 9: Knit
Round 10: Sl m, k3tog, remove marker, knit to end of round. [30 stitched]
Continue to knit in rounds until mitten is 9.5 inches long. Cast off knitwise.
Repeat for other mitten. Weave in ends. Soak in cool water with wool wash and lay flat
to dry.
