Introduction

Background and Needs of the Study

The Sustainable Development Goals serve as a road map for achieving a better

and more sustainable future for everybody. It is a type of development that fulfills

current demands without compromising future generations' capacity to meet their own. It

target global issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental

degradation, peace, and justice.

The United Nations approved the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also

known as the Global Goals, in 2015 as a global call to action to eradicate poverty,

safeguard the environment, and guarantee that by 2030, all people enjoy peace and

prosperity. Countries have agreed to emphasize improvement for those who are the

most disadvantaged.

To fulfill the SDGs in whatever setting, everyone of society must contribute their

creativity, know-how, technology, and financial resources. It is now up to all of us,

governments, corporations, civic society, and the general public, to work together to

achieve a brighter future for all.

In particular, sustainable development is a method of arranging society in order

for it to exist in the long run. This entails taking into account both current and future

implications, such as environmental and natural resource protection, as well as social

and economic harmony.

In a world where natural resource scarcity and population growth are increasing,

and demand from the expanding middle classes is increasing, policy decisions will need

challenging trade-offs. Governments must find "no-regret solutions" that provide

advantages in a variety of areas or situations.

SDGs can assist decision-makers in this endeavor. They can highlight both

restrictions and possibilities for long-term planning and investment, allowing

policymakers to justify their actions even if they are more expensive than business as

usual.

Each SDG requires measurable, time-bound objectives as well as a dashboard

of descriptive indicators that nations may implement based on their particular

circumstances a one-size-fits-all approach would conceal specific priorities and

objectives.

If SDG indicators are to catalyze domestic efforts toward more integrated

approaches to sustainability, they must be adjusted to varied national competencies,

institutional structures, and mandates.

SDGs may be used to help ensure that policies influence change and that

resources are managed in a way that enables future human development opportunities.

That is not an environmental agenda, but it takes into account social, economic, and

environmental problems.

What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable development is the technique of preserving productivity by replacing

depleted resources with resources of equal or higher value without damaging or

harming natural biotic systems. Concern about the carrying capacity of natural systems

is linked to humanity's social, political, and economic issues. The study of the principles

of sustainable development and environmental science is known as sustainability

science. In which the obligation of current generations to renew, preserve, and develop

planetary

DIFFERENT FACTORS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Environmental Factor

Environmental sustainability is concerned with the natural environment and how it

sustains, diversifies, and stays productive. Because natural resources are drawn from

the environment, the condition of the air, water, and climate is of significant concern.

Environmental sustainability necessitates that society develop activities to suit human

needs while also protecting the planet's life support systems.

This preservation of the sanctity of our environment dwells on our actions and activities.

For example the land, water and atmospheric degradation was the result of our

negligence and wrong doings. To ensure the sustainability of our environment we

should engage ourselves on activities and things which are environment friendly. Like

reforestation, investing on renewable energy which optimize the use of fossil fuels,

eliminating waste, recycling and recovering and saving energy and water. Thus we

should consume our natural resources at a sustainable rate.

It is possible to use eco-friendly technologies such as electric automobiles instead of

gasoline and diesel vehicles. Following the 3-R Approach (Reduce, Reuse, and

Recycle), minimizing resource consumption, reusing poly bags or jute bags instead of

tossing them away, and recycling the materials all contribute to attaining sustainability

goals. The government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) should also raise

awareness and encourage environmental education.

Economical Factor

Because of rural poverty and overexploitation, it has been proposed that environmental

resources be considered as valuable economic assets known as natural capital.

Historically, economic progress has necessitated an increase in the gross domestic

product. This concept of unrestricted personal and GDP growth may be coming to an

end. Sustainable development may offer increases in many people's quality of life, but it

may also demand a reduction in resource usage.

The the country should use and protect its resources to sustain the economy. By

properly using the resources, the country can make profit out of it which can be use in

sustaining the economic needs and activities of the people. For example the

rehabilitation of tourists spots will attract more foreign visitors which can boost our

economic revenue and employment rate.

Educational and human development index factor

Accessible education will make people knowledgeable enough to attain decent and

standard living. This sustainability also ensures the health and life expectancy of
people. For example providing free education and different health care programs can be

the answer to boost the rate of education and human development index.

Human development is a wide term that includes all aspects of human social existence.

This element is based on the notion that human actions are reliant on their surroundings

and resources.

Good Governance Factor

Good governance encourages accountability, transparency, efficiency, and the rule of

law at all levels, allowing for the efficient management of human, natural, economic, and

financial resources for equitable and sustainable development, while also ensuring civil

society participation in decision-making processes.

This is the most important sustainable development a country must possess. Because a

good governance will assure the implementation and achievement of all the sustainable

development goals. Good governance can be achieved by voting wisely. Selection of

leaders must be well thought so corruption and malpractice of power will unlikely to

happen.

The goal of the Good Governance in Sustainable Development Program is to help

societies create effective governance within a democratic system and to put sustainable

development concepts into action via global collaboration.

Socio-cultural factor

Changes in culture and demographics are examples of socio-cultural factors. Social

trends, fashion, and culture are all instances of "social factors." These variables
influence our attitudes, views, perception, cognition, and interests, as well as how we

perceive a product or service.

The preservation and patronage of our own culture is one of the things we can do

sustain the development of our identity. We should love our own culture, product and

language before anything else to secure the existence of our origin.

Need for Sustainable Development

From the last two or three decades, we have seen that for the sake of economic

growth, the health of the environment has taken a toll. As a result, there has been an

impact on the environment such as decline in air quality and climate change due to

greenhouse gases. All these factors led to the need for sustainable development, as if

left unchecked it can cause irreversible damage to the environment.

Objectives of Sustainable Development

1. Economic Growth: For creating an economy that is sustainable and growing in the

right direction.

2. Protecting the Environment: This objective focuses on contribution by humans

towards protecting and enhancing the natural environment, by minimising pollution and

waste, also working towards reducing the global carbon footprint.

3. Social Inclusion: This objective focuses on providing the facility of housing for future

generations and assisting in creating healthy, strong and vibrant global communities.
Importance of Sustainable Development

Following are the importance of sustainable development:

1. Using the available resources judiciously and working towards maintaining the

ecological balance.

2.To prevent degradation of the environment and laying emphasis on protecting the

environment.

3. To prevent overexploitation of resources.

Working for progress while keeping in mind the significance of being responsible for the

environment in which we live is what sustainable development entails. The fundamental

concept of sustainable development is to work for today while keeping the demands of

tomorrow in mind. The significance of sustainable development is that it serves the

requirements of current generations without sacrificing the needs of future generations.

Sustainable development teaches us how to use our resources wisely. The following

are some points that demonstrate the significance of sustainable development.

Focus on Sustainable Agricultural Methods - Sustainable development is vital because

it considers the requirements of future generations and ensures that the growing

population does not place a strain on Mother Earth. It encourages agricultural strategies

such as crop rotation and efficient sowing.

Manages Climate Stabilization - We are confronting the challenge of climate change as

a result of excessive use of fossil fuels and the destruction of animal habitats.
Sustainable development, via sustainable development strategies, plays a significant

role in combating climate change. It advocates for less usage of fossil fuels, which emit

greenhouse gases that devastate the atmosphere.

Provides Critical Human Needs - Sustainable development supports the notion of

preserving for future generations and ensuring that resources are distributed fairly. It is

founded on the notion of creating infrastructure that can be sustained throughout time.

Sustain Biodiversity - If the method of sustainable development is followed, all other

living species' homes and habitats will not be depleted. Because sustainable

development focuses on conserving the ecosystem, it naturally aids in the maintenance

and preservation of biodiversity.

Financial Stability - Because sustainable development offers consistent growth,

countries' economy may get stronger by embracing renewable energy sources rather

than fossil fuels, which are limited in supply on our planet.

Examples
Mentioned below are some important examples of sustainable development.

Wind Energy - Wind energy is a cheap and easily attainable resource. It is also a

completely free resource. It is a renewable source of energy, and the energy created by

utilizing the strength of the wind will benefit everyone. Wind turbines may generate

energy that can be used to our advantage. It may be a valuable source of lowering grid

power costs and is an excellent example of sustainable development.

Solar Energy - Solar energy is another form of energy that is both abundant and

limitless. Solar energy is being utilized to replace and accomplish many activities that
were previously done using non-renewable energy sources. Solar water heaters are an

excellent example. It is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Crop Rotation - Crop rotation is an ideal and sustainable approach to boost the potential

growth of gardening land. It is chemical-free and minimizes the likelihood of illness in

the soil. Both commercial farmers and home gardeners benefit from this type of

sustainable growth.

Efficient Water Fixtures - Installing efficient hand and head showers in our toilets that do

not waste or leak water is a means of conserving water. Water is fundamental to our

survival, and every drop must be conserved. Spending less time in the shower is

another approach to promote sustainable development and conserve water.

Sustainable Forestry – This is an excellent method of sustainable development in which

factory-cut timber trees are replaced by another tree. In its place, a new tree is planted

to replace the one that was cut. This prevents soil erosion and gives us hope for a

brighter and greener future.

Assumptions of the Study

Sustainable Development seeks to strike a balance between serving the needs

of the present while not ignoring the needs of future generations. It accepts nature's

limitations while working for the growth of many areas of sustainability. Sustainable

development explains how this idea recognizes that growth and development must be

inclusive as well as environmentally acceptable in order to eradicate poverty and

promote shared prosperity to the global population. It strives to use resources effectively

while also precisely planning the achievement of both short-term and long-term goals
for humans, the earth, and future generations. At this time, the necessity for Sustainable

Development is not only for humanity's existence, but also for its future preservation.

Various industries and enterprises considered the environment as a supply of

raw material. However, restoring a balance between development and environmental

protection can aid in the decrease of global climate changes such as ozone depletion,

water crises, population, species extinction, and deforestation. Countries have enacted

environmental standards, which are now being enforced globally with the assistance of

the state and volunteers. To a large degree, non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

play a vital role in lowering this percentage.

The basic idea of sustainable development is to work for today while keeping in mind

the needs of tomorrow. Sustainable development plays a major role in preventing

climate change by development practices that are sustainable. It makes sure that the

increasing population does not put a burden on Mother Earth.

The concept of progress is to always fulfill the needs of the present without

compromising the future and future generations. As  the  selfish concept of focusing just

about "ourself" will lead to major problems in the near future. So it is very important to
consider our planet and future generations. Because t he devastating consequences of

unsustainable development are already seen. For example the c Climate change, which

is caused by the degradation of the ozone layer as a result of continuous pollution of the

air and land, is one of the most prominent issues. Our fossil fuel supplies are likewise

non-renewable and are gradually decreasing due to growing demands and disposal.

The longer we procrastinate to confront the problem of unsustainable development and

the implications it is creating and will cause in the future, the more severe the

consequences will be.

To carry the notion of sustainable development into reality, it is critical to first

understand what it is. The central idea underlying sustainable development is that any

form of growth, whether economic, environmental, or social, can be made without

depleting the Earth's resources and by utilizing only what we need. The principle of

taking more than we need should be abandoned and eliminated from all practices.

Because our environment does not have an infinite capacity, we must keep our

production in check and sustained in order to leave an adequate number of resources

for future generations.

The major goal of sustainable development is to bring stability to our social, economic,

and environmental needs, which will lead to welfare and the availability of resources for

future generations.

Sustainable development is a good strategy to protect our natural resources by

modifying our approach to technology usage and development. We should not quit
using these resources, but rather continue to use it in a sustained manner so that it will

not extinct and result to the extinction of species.

Sustainability is all about preserving energy and resources for the long term rather than
consuming them continuously to meet short-term needs. Because the  constant
consumption of natural resources by companies throughout the urbanization process
degrades the environment. Sustainable development is all about developing new
technologies, businesses, and environments without harming the environment. Human
life has been compromised as a result of environmental deterioration caused by rising
population, economic deve It is possible to use eco-friendly technologies such as
electric automobiles instead of gasoline and diesel vehicles. Following the 3-R
Approach (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle), minimizing resource consumption, reusing
poly bags or jute bags instead of tossing them away, and recycling the materials all
contribute to attaining sustainability goals. The government and non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) should also raise awareness and encourage environmental
education.lopment, and deforestation. As the number of automobiles and businesses
grows, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane pollute the earth,
causing temperatures to rise. The greenhouse gases have caused ice caps to melt,
causing sea levels to increase. Thus the government and residents of the country must
take necessary actions to ensure long-term growth.
