VIVO- Operation Theatre Technician (OTT)

An Operation Theatre Technician assist Doctors, Anaesthetics and Surgeons during surgery or emergency procedures and they
make certain that in every operation the OT protocols and ethics are being followed properly. They carry out the procedure under
the command of a surgeon.

Objectives

After completion of the course, participants will be able to: • know about biomedical waste and how to dispose off
• independently assist to surgeon and anesthetist and can • knowledge about radiation and how to take precaution
perform role of operation theatre technician towards radiation
• can prepare operation theatre after the surgery and • monitoring of patient during procedure
before the surgery • personal precaution and personal hygiene
• know about equipment used during the surgery and • knowledge about documentation
emergency kit and maintenance of equipment • know about sterilization and method of sterilization
• knowledge about infection and infection control and how • knowledge about surgical position
to prevent from infection and disinfectant • basic knowledge about human anatomy and physiology
• can prepare patient for operative procedure

Course Description
• General anatomy, pathology and physiology of body • Assist anesthetist in handling emergencies outside of

• Maintain equipment support in an acute care environment • Act within the limits of one’s competence and authority
• Identify and move to maintain a sterile field • Work effectively with others
• Follow infection control policies and procedures • Manage work to meet requirements
• Manage and maintain theatre equipment • Maintain a safe, healthy, and secure working environment
• Prepare patient for operative procedures • Follow radiation safety guidelines
• Provide intra-operative equipment and technical support • Follow biomedical waste disposal protocols
• Ensure availability of medical and diagnostic supplies • Monitor and assure quality
