INTRODUCTION

Pump and motors are an electrical device which helps to move liquid and gases from one
place to another by converting its electrical energy to hydraulic energy. Pumps operate by
rotary mechanism and consumes energy to move liquids. Pumps not only operate with
electrical energy but also operate with wind energy, diesel and also by manual operations.

Pumps are produced in many sizes from microscopic pumps to heavy industrial pumps.
Now a days pumps are used in in many places to reduce the time and energy. Pumps have wide
range of usages like pumping water from well, fuelling the vehicle, air conditioner, etc. Even
it is also used in medical industry for developing the medicine and also replacement for the
body parts, particularly in the artificial parts.

Mainly in the developing economy, pump plays the most important role. It is used by
farmers in their borewell or well to irrigate their agricultural fields, so that it is helpful to reduce
the cost and time. It will boost the production of agricultural product in that country.

A pump is a mechanical equipment which helps to move the liquid from the low-pressure
area to high-pressure area. It also acts as a booster to piping network system. Its important
function is to transfer liquid from source to destination and circulate liquid around a system. A
recent study in the pumping system shows that the 25-40% of total electricity in the world is
consumed by the pumps in the industry.

The various department in the V.M.Engineering are as follows

➢ Purchase department
➢ Production Department
➢ Quality control Department
➢ Human Resource Department
➢ Marketing Department
➢ Finance Department

PURCHASE DEPARTMENT
Purchase department plays very vital role in an organization because purchasing has its
effect on every vital factor concerning the manufacture, quality, cost efficiency and
prompt delivery of goods to consumers.. All the spare parts needed for production of
motors and pump sets are done only through this department. It is the responsibility of
the manager in the purchase department to purchase raw materials necessary for
production.

PURCHASE ORDER:
Purchase order is sent to the supplier according to the availability stock of raw
materials and other product in the company. The purchase department selects the
supplier according to the quality, price and source offered by them. Based on purchase
order the supplier will supply the goods.

RAW MATERIAL
• Iron Casting
• Impeller
• Shaft
• Thermal box

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

The Production department plays a vital within the organization and is paid utmost
attention. The Employees involved in production admitted to the organization on contract basis
and are paid supported the amount of pump sets manufactured by them.

The production of the components is administered using both CNC and lathe machines.
The CNC machines are imported from Korea and are utilized in case of production and
therefore the Lathe machines are obtained from Canada.

Two CNC machines are operating in the main unit, one with single spindle and the other
double spindled. In the case of double spindled CNC machine, two separate processes are
administered and two separate monitors are there to regulate them.

7
Lathe Machine

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

• Trafficking of all materials between design and managing editorial.

• Following abreast of late and/or special schedules3.
• Estimating of paper quantities and production costs.
• Negotiating with suppliers.
• Assisting on special projects as necessary.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

RAW MATERIAL INSPECTION

After receiving the raw materials from purchase department and machine shops they
are inspected against specifications. After removing the defective pieces, the castings are sent
forward to machining. In another section, the motor’s rotor and stator components such as shaft,
coil, and casing are inspected.

8
4MACHINING

After, The castings are sent to machining section. They process the sizing, drilling,
turning, and cutting. Defected material in inspection come under Category B and C and use
Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machines and Vertical Machining Centre (VMC)
machines, for machining and have precise control over operations. And the inspection is done
manually using screw gauges.

WINDING

This is most important process in production. In this they test copper for continuity,
resistance, and high voltage before being sent for coiling. Coils are insulated by using coating
coil with resin by dipping them in a bath. The coils are dried in an electrical oven. Once tested
‘okay’, the stator and rotor parts are completed with copper coil by using automated machines.

ASSEMBLY

The stator and rotor parts of motor are assembled carefully and motor within motor
body. Then, pump components, such as impeller, bearings, pump casing, and discharge nozzle
are assembled. The motor and pump sections are assembled into a single product by mechanical
coupling and covered in a single casing.

TESTING

Once the assembling process is completed, the pump is sent to performance test to test
its condition. The have a underground water tanks for 6000ltrs for testing the manufactured
product. They test flow rate of discharge, power input, speed and pump efficiency. The purpose
of the test is to verify whether the pump operates in range of designed frequency. The pumps
are tested at different voltages.

9
RECEIVING AND PROCESSING ORDERS

Orders from customers are received personally or through phone, fax, or email. Order
details are entered in the order transfer form in the system with the details such as customer
name, their requirements including model.

On JMD’s approval, the order is checked for its adequacy of requirement. If the wants of
the order are adequate, order is procured with order information, customer details, items,
quantities and shipment details. The delivery schedule is obtained from the assembly engineer
and communicated to the customer through established means of communication.

MAINTANENCE

All machinery requires preventive and routine maintenance at regular intervals to maintain
machine accuracy. Out sources are called pertaining to the machinery history note book, and
preventive maintenance action is performed. The accuracy level for every machine is verified
whenever at the time of maintenance.

CNC operators handle the programming errors, if any. As preventive maintenance is

adopted, complete breakdown of the machines are avoided at the utmost. Contractors are there
to hold out the upkeep. Apart from these , daily maintenance of the machines is performed by
the operators like oiling, cleaning, etc.

CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION

Overall internship is a really good program and recommended to my fellow friends.it helps to
enhance and develop my skills, abilities and knowledge . It was a good experience and
memories as not only I have gained experience, but also new friends and knowledge. The
treatment by the company was just equitable and professional. I learned from different units
and people. They also help me to handle some of my weaknesses and provided guidance to
me whenever I am in need. I think 15 days duration for the internship was not enough for me
to learn more in details about the jobs. Internship help us to identity your strength, abilities,
weakness and more.
One main thing that I have learned through this internship is studying not only in the
classroom .this is because the working environment is totally very different from life as a
student. The view of manufacturing company is profitable .it also helped me to solve the
threads and opportunities faced by the company.it is an enjoyable lesson.
