Graduate Internship
Internship Description
The Student Services Division at Los Angeles Southwest College is seeking a Graduate Intern for the 2011/12
academic year to be placed in the Associated Student Organization (ASO) Office. The Intern will have the
opportunity to:
• Shadow a Counselor during counseling sessions and other daily functions
• Counsel ASO participants (supervised)
• Facilitate and/or co-facilitate student success workshops
• Facilitate and/or co-facilitate student leadership workshops
• Assist students with event planning and coordination
• Facilitate a student group throughout the academic year (supervised)
• Attend Student Services Division meetings, ASO Board Meetings, and Counseling Department Meetings
• Become familiar with the Offices of Student Services Division
• Assist with various office tasks related to counseling, academic success and personal skill development
• Gain experience working with students that are first generation, low-income and/or have a disability.
Compensation
The Student Services Division at Los Angeles Southwest College Graduate Internship is an unpaid position. The
Student Services Division will provide the Intern with training on college resources, counseling strategies and usage
of LASC forms, ASO regulations and Los Angeles Southwest College counseling. In addition, any expenses needed
to prepare and present workshops or activities for ASO participants will be covered.
The number of hours per week worked will be negotiated between the Dean of TRIO Programs and the Intern. The
academic year begins August 29, 2011.
