VISION To nurture our students to be Men of Human Excellence and Men for and With
Others. Our students need to be prepared for the rapid economic, scientific and
technological developments ahead. STEM education is being promoted as a key
emphasis in the ongoing renewal of the school curriculum that is essential for their
lifelong learning and whole-person development. The students will create a
better future with the Jesuit Values.

SKILLS & Apart from cultivating students’ interest in Science, Technology and Mathematics,
KNOWLEDGE and developing among them a solid knowledge base, we aim to strengthen students’
ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills across different STEM
disciplines, and to nurture their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving
skills, as well as to foster their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit as required
in the 21st century.

PLAN We have been promoting STEM education at Wah Yan in a holistic and coherent
manner, with strategies that embrace renewing the curricula of the Science,
Technology and Mathematics Education KLAs, enriching the learning activities for
students, preparing learning and teaching resources, enhancing professional
development to teachers, strengthening partnerships with community
stakeholders as well as maintaining professional communities.

WYK QEF School-based

Creative STEM Learning Project
From the Quality Education Fund, our school obtained a
funding of $643,300 to procure equipment, staff training
service and teaching materials to commence the STEM For
All curriculum. The curriculum includes Robotics,
Electronic Building Blocks, VR, 3D Computer Aided Design
and Computer Aided Manufacturing. Junior form students
study the CL syllabus in the 1st Term and the STEM syllabus
in the 2nd Term.

Cross-Curricular Project
Cross-curricula projects are offered across different KLAs.
As a committee member of Project-Based Learning
Committee, I worked with Science and Geography
Department to implement a F2 project on making
apparatus such as wind vane, anemometer, rain gauge,
thermometer and so on. ICT department is responsible
for the technological skills such as data analysis and
presentation while Science and Geography department
are responsible for the subject knowledge and the
apparatus production.

Renovation of STEM Lab

Supported by the Wah Yan One Family Fund, the STEM
Lab has been renovated to be a maker space. The STEM
Lab allows the school to have STEM lessons, after-school
enrichment courses and competition preparation. It
provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students
to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply
engage in STEM and tinkering.
STEM FOR SOME

Enrichment Courses and Post exam activities

Through the Life Wide Learning Grant, after school and post
examination enrichment courses are offered to intermediate
students. Students can further develop their STEM
knowledge and equip themselves with the latest
technological skills.
In the past three years, various programmes have been
offered:
⚫ Arduino Bluetooth Vehicle Workshop
⚫ Drones Coding Workshop
⚫ HKOI Programming Course
⚫ AI Fundamentals Course
⚫ Forensic Science Workshop
⚫ CUHK Amgen Biotech Experience Workshop

University & Entrepreneur Partnership

Various corporations, Universities and NGOs would provide
STEM schemes in education and offer tailor-made learning
experiences to students. Our students will gain valuable
exposure by joining such programmes. For example:
⚫ PolyU Design Thinking Workshop
⚫ CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project
⚫ Microsoft AI Pilot school Scheme
⚫ Facebook Oculus Education Program
⚫ Ocean Park Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme

Visits & Overseas Tours

Visits to University and Entrepreneur will be arranged. Our
ICT students were invited to visit the working environment
and the facilities in Facebook Headquarters. Moreover,
overseas tours to maker fairs and expos would be arranged
to expose our teaching staff and students to the
international STEM development.
STEM FOR ELITE

STEM Team
The STEM Team was established in 2019. It is formed by elite
students in academic and non-academic areas. In just 2 years,
we have recruited more than 50 members (including 4
captains and 8 vice captains in the four major STEM
disciplines).
Training and outside opportunities will be provided to the
STEM Team members to unleash their power.

Gifted Education

competence, the STEM Education Committee cooperates with
the Gifted Education Committee to provide support to
exceptionally gifted students. Some of our STEM Team
members are nominated to join the Hong Kong Academy for
Gifted Education and University programs. Some of them are
even selected to join the Hong Kong Team.

STEM competitions and events

STEM Team members represent the school to participate in

over 10 events and competitions annually, such as Science
Innovation and Invention projects, coding contests, robotics
and drones competitions as well as Math and Fintech
events. They have achieved excellent results and won
numerous awards and prizes.

Donation to Elderly Home

STEM Team students put “Men For And With Others” and “Cura Personalis” into practice and
initiated a 3D-printed face shields donation campaign to an elderly home for COVID-19
prevention. They applied the design thinking process with the 3D printing and Laser cutting
knowledge to produce 100 face shields in 1 month during the class suspension period.
