What is a Computer?
Almost all of the appliances run on electricity. Just like the computer,
without electricity we cannot use the computer.
Computers today are one of the most important things we use. We can
get information from all over the world through the internet using our
computers.
There are many other things you can do using a computer aside from
adding numbers and typing letters. A computer can help you with your studies.
A computer is used to organize business documents, record products, take in
orders and print receipts.
4. A computer can sum up the items we buy at the grocery through a bar
code reader.

How to Take Care of Your computer?
A computer is a machine and it does not have feelings, but it still need our
special care. If you take care of your computer, it will have a long life.
These are the proper ways on how to take care of our computers:
Hardware
Hardware are parts of the computer that can be touched and you used
to control the computer. When you look at a complete set of a desktop
computer, everything you see is a hardware device.
Peopleware
Did you know that not all people can be considered as peopleware?
It is because peopleware refers to the person who knows how to use the
computer.

The moving object that we see on the screen is called a mouse pointer.
We can control the movement of the mouse pointer and it follows the
directions given by the mouse. The mouse has its body parts like our body.
Mouse Buttons
Palm Rest
Track Ball
Long wire
Palm rest – this is where we put our palm when we are using the mouse.
Long wire – this is where the signal flows to send commands to the mouse
pointer. This is attached to the system unit.
Track ball – this is the ball inside the mouse. It allows the cursor to move around
the monitor screen.
Mouse Buttons – a mouse usually has 2 to 3 buttons and these are the left
mouse button, middle mouse button, and the right mouse button.
Some mouse have scroll wheel and does not have a track ball anymore.

Lesson 2
Function of the Mouse
When the mouse and the mouse pointer work together, they can do four (4)
things on the screen.
2. Clicking – is done by pressing the mouse button once; by pressing the left
mouse button you can select an object on the screen.
3. Double-clicking – is done by quickly pressing the left mouse button twice. By
double-clicking, you can open the selected object on the screen.
4. Dragging – is done by pressing the left mouse button, without releasing it,
while moving the mouse. Dragging allows us to move an object from one
place to another.
