    Case Study on: Safe Water in Barangay X

    What went wrong to the programme?

     As we all know the problem of the Barangay X is about the contaminated water which cause people
    have infections like guinea-worm, a waterborne disease and other infections. The wrong of the
    programme is their Chief of Barangay chooses a wrong person which is Amos who will be trained
    for health teachings and treating the sick people, at first he enjoyed treating the sick people and
    asked for charged for or small amount of money for the drugs and corrupt.That’s why the people in
    the Barangay X was not happy because of his doings for his community.

    What could the chief of Barangay X have done differently?

     Choosing the wrong person in the training and he was just thinking for his family which in fact he
    must choose the accurate health care provider to be trained properly.

    What should those barangays who did not agree with his choice have done in the beginning?

     They did not complain at first, because they did not know how community workers were acting in
    the other Barangays but after a few months the Barangay X learned from friends what the
    community health workers in other Barangays were doing.

    What is the best way of choosing a community health worker?

     In choosing a best community health worker she/he must have these kind of personalities: Analysis:
    Choosing the right programs for each individual will require developed analysis skills. Teaching: Part
    of a community health worker's job involves teaching classes and educating others. Interpersonal:
    Excellent listening and communication skills can help you answer the needs of the people you serve.
    Empathy: Genuine compassion for the people you are serving and the ability to understand their
    situation can help you make a better connection with them. Problem solving: You must be creative
    in finding ways to improve the health of the community. Persistence: Many initiatives from
    community health workers, such as advocating for your community health needs, assisting
    individuals with benefits or distributing social services applications, demand time and endurance.
    And lastly Trustworthiness: You'll learn sensitive information regarding your clients and must keep
    it confidential. Your honesty and integrity can also encourage individuals to confide in you.
    What should be the qualifications of a community health worker?

     In order to do their complex work, CHWs need to be empathetic, resourceful and willing to help
    others. Such qualities are personal characteristics that can be enhanced, but not necessarily taught.
    When organizations want to find Community Health Workers they look for the following qualities:

     Trustworthiness

     Relationship with the community being served

     Desire to help the community

     Empathy

     Persistence

     Creativity and resourcefulness

     Personal strength and courage

     Respectfulness

    What should the people of Barangay X do now?

     Most of these workers had already started self-help efforts to dig wells and protect springs. None of
    them had asked their barangays to build them a clinic.
