THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
INTRODUCTION
Some of the students cannot cope without personal
experiences in learning how to utilize the materials and equipment
in the engineering laboratory. Various of students do not know the
importance of the materials or equipment that will be used in a
specific task inside the engineering laboratory. During the Covid-19
pandemic, the government officials did not allow the schools,
teachers, and students to perform a face-to-face class mode to
avoid the spreading of the virus. In this situation, the learning of
using specific materials and equipment in major subjects will be
less knowledgeable due to lack of equipment in own houses,
financial crisis, and pandemic crisis. Several students in Mindanao
Polytechnic College cannot manage the class online since the
students were adept at traditional classroom setup.
Based on ASEE American Society for Engineering Education
(2014) "Some of the training engineers that working in the present time
have a few need for several of the facts and procedures that were
crucial just a decade ago and now needed skills and knowledge not
formerly anticipated. Engineering education has not remain its
momentum with the changes caused by technology. Content, teaching,
and university culture have last regardingly static, and in spite of the fact
that there have been several changes, the typical engineering classroom
is still a passive lecture. The project intention is to develop changes by
building comprehensive and thorough harmony within the community of
engineering on a vision shared by the future of engineering education.”
Several people who are engineers that work today are proficient
in the career they choose, most of them are clever enough to manage
the standard of the engineering routines. Working with the common or
manual machinery is very easy since it is the regular chores as the job
position starts. Today several of the factories, buildings, and shops are
using technology to fasten and make the work easier than the usual
work. When the technology entered the production environment and
upgraded it, it became useful yet some of the engineers are not familiar
with the new operating system which is more automatic and advanced.
The engineers who are old-fashioned or clever on manual
machines will have a difficulty in coping with the new operating system
that caused them to study new knowledge about how to operate the
advanced and automatic machines. In the engineering students, it is still
the same model of teaching and classroom but added a new learning
system which is learning the automatic and advanced equipment that
will possibly be used in the future job. The schools who have advanced
and automatic machinery and equipment will be a great key for the
students to help them gain more knowledge and will be useful to their
future after they finish the engineering course with great learning and
experience with the school facilities like engineering laboratories,
navigation room, and ICT room.
The significance of maritime education and training at the
secondary level is important to expand consciousness as well as to
diminish the trends and challenges influenced by the theoretical and
social changes experienced in society and the Maritime Industry.
Further, the literature has noted the deficiency of concentrated effort in
advocating the industry to the youngster. As such, there is a need for a
prototyped shift in the education system to reform the secondary
curriculum to make it relevant to society in terms of exposure to the
maritime industry. (Cunningman, 2015). The importance of the MET at
the secondary level was found to be prime to spread awareness as well
as to lessen the challenges influenced by the philosophical and
sociological changes in the society and to the Maritime Industry. The

importance and knowledge about the maritime industry is a demand to
develop and be promoted to the younger generation to increase and
boost their curiosity and willingness to take maritime bachelor courses
shortly if the exposure of the maritime industry will boost to the younger
generation then assured that it will be popular and be taken by the
youth.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
A Marine Engineering student needs to be familiar with
engineering equipments. They may be familiar with how an apparatus
works but in engineering, the students need to know more such us
how to operate it. It is crucial to make sure that a Marine Engineering
student is equipped with enough knowledge to properly use the
equipment they need on their future workplace.
The main aim of this study is to investigate the importance of
having complete equipment in the engineering laboratory. It is also the
intention of this study to know the effects of having complete equipment
to Marine Engineering students. The main objectives includes the
following
1. To investigate the significance of having complete equipment in the
engineering laboratory.
2. To know the effects of complete engineering equipment to marine
engineering students.
3. If complete engineering equipment can enhance the skills related to
their future workplace.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The general intent of this study is to know the effects of having
complete equipment in the engineering laboratory to the marine
engineering students. The researchers will study its effect to the
potential of the students and their academic performance. The study
may also consider the significance of having complete equipment in the
engineering laboratory to the learning experience of the marine
engineering students.
The researchers will mainly conduct the study limiting only to the
marine engineering students of Mindanao Polytechnic College, with
limited amount of participants, time framework and resources due to the
changes of educational setting.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This findings of the study hopes to establish an understanding on
the significance of having complete equipment in the engineering
laboratory and its effects to the Marine Engineering students.
Furthermore, this study will benefit the following:
Teachers- the results of this study will help them to know the benefits of
having complete equipment in the engineering laboratory. To enhance
their teaching skills with the help of complete equipment in the
laboratory. The result of this study might be easier to teach and discuss
using complete equipment.
Marine Engineering Students- the results of this study helps improve
their knowledge and to enhance their thinking skills. And the students
are expected to be more motivated and interested when the equipment’s
are complete.
The Institution- the outcome of this study may provide them a basis for
the formulation of significance of having complete equipment in the
engineering laboratory and its effects to the Marine Engineering
students.
Future Researchers- the result of this research will serve as their guide
in conducting new studies and researches.
