    Essay Analysis: The Speech of Cory Aquino before

    the US Congress
    Corazon Cojuanco- Aquino was the 11th president of the Philippines and was
    widely accredited as the “Mother of Asian Democracy”. The intent of her speech is to
    declare the freedom of the Filipinos from the Marcos regime and mark a new
    beginning for the Filipinos and to its government and to appeal for financial
    assistance by informing the Americans about the Philippines’ state.
    In her speech she talks about her family background, especially her
    relationship with her late husband, Ninoy Aquino. Ninoy was the one who became
    the leading figure of the opposition back then. Ninoy’s charisma and eloquence can
    very well compete with that of Marcos. Cory specified on her speech about Ninoy’s
    sufferings at the hands of the dictatorship that he resisted. She tackled about her
    vision on her governance, but she then goes back to her husband’s legacies and
    lessons.
    It is clear in Cory’s speech that she is somewhat using her husband’s
    influences to the people to make the people side and support her in her governing
    plans. She is a courageous and an intelligent woman, she entered in a right timing of
    her presidency. Promising the people that she will fight and carry everything on her
    back to achieve the democratic government that she is promising to the people.
    She is a very courageous and a woman full of perseverance. She became a
    hero of the Filipinos as well as her husband Ninoy Aquino for being not silent on the
    wrongful acts and happenings.
    This is a very important happenings in our Philippine History especially in
    achieving the freedom and democracy that we are benefitting right now. We have to
    thank and honor those people back then who fought for the future which became our
    present nowadays. A lot of people sacrificed themselves for today’s lives but few of
    them were recognized and have given honor. Therefore even if we do not know
    them, I believe they have known how proud and thankful we are to them. Thus we
    have to give importance in every aspects of our lives today. Without them we cannot
    achieve what we are living right now.
