Gender Equality
Gender inequality is perceived as an inextinguishable issue in the Philippines

due to stereotypes and beliefs regarding how women should be. The existence of
inequality among societies greatly affect women in many various ways. In a societal set
up women are viewed as the weak units, most of the time they are perceived less
skilled and incapable of doing uneasy things in workplaces. When it comes to human
rights, gender inequality also takes place. Their right to live free from slavery and
violence are being violated. This includes issues such as rape and physical abuse, and
this is very prevalent in this modern time with numerous records per year. As estimated,
4 out of 10 cases about women rights violation are only being solved, due to abrupt
justice system which favors only those who have power and money.
Well the history of gender inequality is deeply rooted in the past. According to
Cosmos (2019), the case of gender inequality arises 8000 years ago in the pre- historic
times even before written records were published. The study found out that the
dominance of male over female is due to the difference in power which may be based
on the use of violence of male.
If we will be tracing the root cause of gender inequality, it will lead us to

different contributory factors. Culture is the first factor, due to the different norms and
belief systems that we have. Most of the cultures in different society greatly focus on
masculinity rather than femininity. A social order known as Patriarchy, assigns sex as a
tool to categorize specific activities, function, and powers to each person. In relation to
gender inequality, this social order become a factor because it encloses women into
limited work activities inside the house. It is a factor for gender inequality for it limits
women to enhance and perform their potentials and flourish as a person.
Another factor that affects gender inequality is Religion, due to different norms
and beliefs associated. Every religion shares common ideas, which is man as the much
stronger being than women. One evidence of this is the assigned gender of deities.
Another thing is their assigned gender roles in marriages. Some believe in
complementarian view where in a marriage set up leadership is given to male while the
female is perceived as the follower that follows every decision. In the latter year
complementarianism has been the norm but as time goes by it turned to egalitarian
views which is more of considering the rights of the women.
The consequences brought by this gender inequality is the decrease in a nation's

economy because most women are unemployed and they cannot contribute to the
workforce. It is also often times associated with discrimination, females are being
rejected in jobs and being replaced with males that are believed to be more capable
than women. As the number of dependent individuals increases it gradually decrease
the funds of a nation and increase the burden of the government. Funds will be given as
support to those dependent ones instead of allocating it in other sectors.
Why is it hard for us to eliminate gender inequality in general? The answer to this
is the weak policy implementation regarding gender inequality. Around the globe many
countries lack implementation of law that covers the protection of women's rights.
According to Human Rights Watch, there are action made by the international women's
rights movement, but for so many years there are still cases which involves obstruction
of women's rights. Examples are married as children or trafficked into forced labor and
sex slavery. there is an existing law regarding gender inequality, but it is not enough to
battle this kind of widespread problem because the enforcement of law is not
satisfactory. This is why gender inequality is still rampant, humanity may only overcome
this by giving the issue enough focus and reinforcement.
In line with this, I speak with the intent to elucidate all the vague arguments and
inaugurate my advocacy which is to empower all women to break and change the
stereotypes made by society about gender. Ending all forms of discrimination against
women and girls can open to various opportunities for them such as work that will also
contribute to the growth of the nation. Dismantling discrimination and inequalities among
women are not only a basic human right, but it also has a multiplier effect across all
other development areas.
For this to be possible, I planned to utilize various social media platforms for it is
capable of reaching out many audiences not just in our country but across the globe.
Also, it will be used to gather support from different sectors and tap numerous
influencers. As we all know social media influencers are famous and well known they
would be very helpful in my advocacy in order to gain sympathy from the masses and
also encourage other advocates to stand up for the rights of women.
Another tactic which I foresee is through a campaign event that will be held in the
month of March where INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY is being celebrated. As a
plan for raising the awareness of others about gender equality, an event will be held and
will be joined by influencers and speakers from different women's organization. The
event will be entertaining so that youth and other members of the society will be
encouraged to attend. There will be concerts from famous artists and personalities. But
at the same time, it will not lose the main essence of the event because it will feature
speech from advocates and leaders so that everyone will be knowledgeable and aware
of the issue.
My advocacy plan aims to share facts and information that will be useful not only
for women but also for everyone. The knowledge that will be disseminated are hoped to
be understood and spread by everyone so that it will be very helpful for our society and
utilize for the fight against gender inequality that reigns not just in our nation but across
the globe as well.
One of the groups that can support my advocacy is the "Gabriela" it is a national
group founded during 1984 it is based in the Philippines .The goal of Gabriella is to
organize Filipino women from marginalized sectors of society, and help them to be
empowered and educated so that they are able to defend their rights and interests.
Gabriela assembles systems and connections with other nearby and worldwide women'
associations and foundations for collaboration and shared help just as with others'
associations in the Philippines and in different nations.
The advocacy I stand with is also supported by another fundraising organization

known as WOMEN. It is an organization which visions a world that offers women a
strength, safety, power and right to be heard with no exceptions. The goal of Global
Funds for Women is to give resources to organization led by women, girls and trans
people in order to provide resources to strengthen and empower those organizations
working directly in their communities This Global fund organization provide flexible,
core-support grants for operating and program expenses, give multi-year grants as
often as possible, and offer travel and event organizing grants to support knowledge-
exchanges and convening. Global Fund for Women also provides immediate support to
organizations who are first responders in times of natural and human-made crises.
Raging war against male and females are so inappropriate, we are all equal as
human beings. And we must not treat each other as enemies. The idea of male being
the superiors are so overrated that it came to the point where other genders are treated
less and their rights are taken away from them. This must stop, all of us are on the brink
of destroying humanity. Keep your minds open, for so long we have allowed the society
condemn us to believe that equality can never be truly enjoyed but it is wrong equality
can happen and it will start with you.
