HOW TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH WATCHING MOVIE

ABSTRACT

This study was done to study the learning strategies used by both low and high performance

speaking students in developing their speaking skills as well as the differences between their

learning strategies, by using application in mobile phone to watching movie, reading book,

article, short story, and they can improve their speaking skills through storytelling with audio-

visual. As we know, Speaking is an important part of language teaching because including one of

the basic language skills. Nowadays teaching media is develop well in many kinds especially for

English speaking Skill. The result from study showed that students have positive responses on

using English movie, listening music can increase their speaking skills.

English is a subject that essential to be learned, because most of the information and

technology are using English, for example in education, commerce, and daily activities, news.

Computer, and others. As an international language English is an asset to communicate to the

people worldwide. It’s easy to learn, easy to understand. Those to make the user to apply the

technology. Meanwhile English is easy to learn, some people have not been able to use English

language in speaking well. In this era, speaking Skills is ability is needs because it describe and

educated all of us to express ideas, feeling, opinion. However language skill, speaking bin the

most complicated language skill. Because it is not only transforming the word and the sentence

into spoken language but also expanding and expressing the idea in the opportunity speaking

activity. According to, (Inayah, 2019), speaking is a produce skill that can be observered

directly and emprically.

In this study there are several steps in improving our speaking Skills through watching movie.

Outside the classroom there are so many ways to continue learning English. Most of them are

fun activities that we already do. We explored reading books. English movies with English

subtitle. Watching movie in English subtitle can help us to learn the sound, familiarize the word

and thereby making it easer to recognize in the future. In one movie we can learn new

vocabulary, pronunciation etc. The movie that can help us is cartoon movie, romance, war, kids

movie and others. Movie is a kind of media that I believe will make interest, because most of us

like to watch movie. Some factors that create positive learning environment that are actor and

acthress, plot, and the dialogue as well. Improve our speaking Skills through watching movie,
automatically learn about the foreign culture, get knowledge and know how they pronounce the

words.

Cartoon movie is one of the media that can be used in teaching speaking. According to (Wilson,

2016), movie can stimulate and motivate students interests.

The writer decided to research about the movie as video media in improving

English skill, speaking ability, because in writer's opinion speaking is the most important

language element among others, the people main goal in learning through watching movie can

including English. To reach this, teachers, lectures, can be teaching facilitators should create a

good teaching and also use the opportunity teaching video media in speaking English.

LITERATURE REVIEW

SPEAKING

Speaking has been gotten since childhood, it can be begin from listening and try to

imitate what we have listened until know what the meaning of words. Speaking is a way of

expressing ourselves in whatever language we use.

According to (Efrizal, 2012), speaking the way of people to express and communicate ideas to

others or intrally. Speking is a speech or utterances produced by the speaker with an intention of

being known ad then, listener processes the sayings in order to know the speakers intention.

Speaking is defined as a way to express or communicate oppinions, feelings, ideas, etc., by or as

talking and it involves the activities in the part of the speaker as psychological (articulator) and

physical (acoustic) stage. Speaking is further defined as an interactive process of constructing

meaning are dependent on the context in which it occurs orally, coherently, fluently and

approriately in given meaningful context to serve both transactional and interactional purposed
using correct pronnunciation, grammar, and vocabulary and adopting the pragmatic and

discourse rules of the spoken language. If we think of the period in our lives when we learned to

speak our first language, and the moment in which we started to make huge efforts to speak our

second/foreign language we find significant differences.

WATCHING CARTOON MOVIE

English language cartoons indirectly have become a sourcudee of languages exposure for

learners. Watching English cartoon movie can speak a childs learning of English, and export new

things that learners see or hear throught the conversation of characters in the cartoon movie.

According to (Horby, 2016), cartoon as movie is defined as films, state that movies are forms of

enterteiment that enact stories by sound and sequences of images giving the illusion of continues

movement.

If you enjoy to watching to cartoon movie, get your daily fix with a foreign languages. However

instead of watch and listen for languages learners, foccus on the film that we watch and find the

unfimiliar words. There are various ways to improve speaking skills through watching movie, to

second languages a learners with the helps of movie. According to our own spesific learning

abilities. While students develop learnng abilities in different ways, the majority of students are

visual learners and movie or films are an ideal means for acquiring a second languages. A series

of watching movies with subtitle, that we can watch at the cinema, home, campus, and etc.

on the youtube and others opplication.

LEARNING MEDIA.

Learning media is anything that can channel the messege, can stimulate the mind,

feelings, and abilities of learning is to facilitate communication procces, where information from

the learning source needs to be conveyed to the recipient, so that students better understand then

the communication in the form of movie, besides learning also greatly affect tha level of student

undrstanding in learning.

The role of media in watching movie is very important, because the learning media can clarify

the presentation of the informtion messages, so as to facilitate the learnin process and improve

learners. Learners can find the cartoon movie on the youtube, television, computer, and other

aplication, to watch the cartoon movie to improve speaking skills. Improve speaking skills

through youtube media, is one of the effective supporters in helping the learning procces.
CONCLUSION

Based on the result of research, it can be concluded that cartoon movies have influence to

improve speaking skills. But not all english movies has high opportunity to improve speaking,

this prove learners can express their own mind.

As has been clarified, in the watching cartoon movie to improve speaking skills, can briefly and

help learners to improve speaking skills and also create and express their own ideas, oppinions,

critical thinking, including the movies. Learners can also tell, for instance at the very begining of

speaking. Watching cartoon movie, the learners can undrstand such as the speech, the speech,

idioms, and slang words, and use of grammar have influence toward the students or learners, in

learning speaking and also the unfimiliar vocabularies and accent have influence in students

listening comphrehension. And when learners watching cartoon movie, the words used is easier

it can heps learners to improve their speaking skills. Youtube media is one of effectinvness to

learn a lot and improve speaking skill.
