“BASIC BASKETBALL SKILLS AND VIOLATIONS REFLECTION”

When I was a child, I’m not really into sports but I have already known the
sports which called basketball. My brothers were not also engaged in playing
basketball but my cousins and neighbors usually play with it in the ground. As far as
I remember, during my elementary years we used to play “Hit and Run ball game”
with my classmates and then we came up to try playing basketball. While playing, I
just came to realized that basketball was really a fun game although it’ll make you
feel tired because you’re always running and trying to grab the ball from your
opponent. After that, I started to play basketball for fun with my childhood friends
until during my secondary years I feel excited every time we’re having our P.E and
we’re playing basketball. I also love watching basketball games because it was an
exciting and fun game.
In this activity, I had so much fun playing basketball and trying to execute the
basic skills. But honestly, I don’t really know how to execute some of the skills in
basketball but with the help of one of my friends, he taught me how to do it and then
I’m happy that somehow, I did it too. But before we start playing basketball together
with my friends, we had to do some warm-up and stretching so that after we play,
our bodies will not get hurt. So, we started to execute the first basic skill which is
passing, we did the chest pass and the bounce pass. In executing the chest pass, I
throw the ball by gripping on the sides with my thumbs directly behind the ball. I
stand about seven-feet apart from my teammate so that I could throw the ball with
force so that she could catch it. Meanwhile, in executing the bounce pass we had to
stand about ten feet apart so that the ball could bounce hard. By passing, I extend
my arms and snap my wrists to throw the ball forward and down into the floor, to
bounce it to my teammate. The next basic skill is catching, we were running and
my teammate throw the ball at me and then I catch it so that I could shoot it to the
hoop. One of the basic skills in basketball that I also executed is dribbling, so what
I did was to bounce the ball on the floor continuously with one hand at a time. This
is basically the only legal way that a player may maintain possession of the ball
while walking or running. The other basic skills in basketball is shooting, it is the
most important skill in basketball. So ideally as much as you can by shooting a
ball, you have your fingers facing forward towards the basket. Although, I’m not
really that good at playing basketball, I still tried my best to learn so that I could
execute all the basic skills.
After the execution of the basic skills in basketball, I also executed some the
hand-signal violations. Some of the violations are travelling, illegal dribble, 5
seconds violation, 8 seconds violation, and ball returned to back court hand signal.
In executing any violation especially travelling violation, you have to whistle first
and then rotate or roll your fist. Traveling is a violation of the rules that occurs
when a player holding the ball moves one or both their feet illegally. The next
violation is the illegal dribble specifically the double dribbling, an illegal dribble
occurs when a player ends their dribble by catching or causing the ball to come to
rest in one or both hands and then dribbles it again with one hand or when a player
touches it before the ball hits the ground. In executing the violation, you have to
pat your two palms with motion. While 5 seconds and 8 seconds violation, you just
need to show 5 fingers and 8 fingers respectively. The last hand signal that I
executed was the ball returned to back court, I wave my hand in front of my body
and point on my right side. These are just some of the violations in basketball that
are also important to get familiarized. After playing and executing the basic skills
and violations in basketball, I’m not just having fun but I also learned something
from it at the same time. Since we’re still in a pandemic and couldn’t play freely
outside, we can at least learn some of the basic skills in basketball so that when
everything gets back to normal, playing basketball would get easier because you
already learned some of its basic skills.

“BASIC VOLLEYBALL SKILLS REFLECTION”

In playing basketball, it represents life itself. You're the player, and the ball
is the problem or issue. To overcome your difficulties and return to the other side,
you must be courageous. Your adversaries are your anxieties, negative individuals,
and other circumstances that lead to your failure. We grow stronger and more
experienced with each problem we solve. Because life is like a game, you need to
be aware how the game must be played so that you could survive and never fail.
Way back in my elementary days, where it’s my first-time playing volleyball
when our P.E teacher organized a mini sport fest for our grade level. I’m not really
into sports and playing volleyball is not my type, but when I started to play
volleyball, I just came to realize that it was fun and an exciting game to play. I had
to learn some of its basic skills so that I could play volleyball in school for our
mini sport fest. Until, I know the basic skills and tried my best to play, I admit it
that I’m not really that good at playing volleyball because I’m scared being hit by a
ball especially when the opponent is going to spike the ball really hard, since I was
hit by a ball in my face one time. But still, I need to learn and improve my skills so
that it wouldn’t difficult for me to play volleyball in our secondary years. I failed
so many ti8mes playing volleyball that I really want to end up playing or joining.
But one of my teachers encouraged me not to gave up and took the game for fun.
So, I follow what he said and play the game for fun and it was indeed enjoyable
and exciting.
Before doing the activity, which is executing the basic skills in volleyball, I
looked for a person who can help me because some of the skills that are included
were difficult for me to execute. Luckily, I have my friend who helped me and I
was very happy because without her help, I couldn’t imagine how could I execute
the basic skills properly. We went to our barangay covered court so that we could
execute the skills in a wide area, but unfortunately there is no volleyball net there
because playing volleyball with lot of people is not yet allowed due to pandemic
high restrictions. So, what we did, we just used the court line as an imaginary net
since there are no other wide area that we could play volleyball.
The first basic skill that we I executed was the serving which is the
underhand serve, the ball is held in the left hand with the left arm across and a little
in front of the body. The ball is lined up with a straight forward swing of the right
hand and the left-hand fingers are spread, and the ball rests on the pads of these
fingers. The next type of serving is the overhand pass, when serving the player
tosses the ball with one hand and strikes it in the air above their head with the other
hand. And you’ll aces whenever you serve the ball into your opponent's side of the
court without it being touched or returned. Another basic skill is the passing or
returning, there are also two types of passing which is the forearm pass, where the
player hit the ball to his/her teammate. The forearms are made into a flat platform,
positioned ready for the ball to come into contact. When I execute the forearm
pass, I had a difficulty in controlling the ball since my arms are in pain but I think I
did it well with the help of my friend. The next type of passing is the overhead
pass, which I had so much difficulty executing this type of passing since I honestly
don’t know how to do overhead pass. So basically, the overhead pass involves
hitting the ball using an overhead playing motion to direct the ball to your
teammate. The ball is played with the fingers using an overhead setting action. The
other basic skills in volleyball is spiking, it is the strategy used to send the ball over
the net to the opponent in such a manner that ball is not returnable. Honestly, I
don’t know how to spike but with the help of my friend, I think I executed it better
that I expected. It makes my palm red while practicing until executing. In spiking,
it is also important to learn about blocking. When you’re blocking you could
deflect the ball coming from your opponent's attack hit. And it is also useful to
prevent the opponent from a successful attack hit. When I did the blocking skill, I
really need to jump high as I can so that I could reach and block the ball from the
opponent’s attack hit.
